Can gays or bisexuals be Christian?

The question in the OP asks:
Can gays or bisexuals be Christian?
Is this really asking, can a person who is sexually attracted to both males and females be Christian?
Isn't the answer a resounding 'No'?

A Christian is a follower of Christ - One who follows his example, and teachings.
So in order to be a Christian, one must be applying the teaching of Christ in one's life.

It sometimes take time for one to do this, based on his/her/it background.
For example, a drug addict may take time to get over a bad habit, but when they work at it, in time with God's help, they can overcome the temptation to give in, and they may get to a point where their wrong desire is suppressed.

When that person reaches a reasonable point in their progress - then they can become a Christian, because they have repented and made a resolve in their hearts to do God's will.


Of course, no one changes overnight, so there must be a way to help the person to change their thinking. Learning of God's ways will help in that regard... according to the scriptures.

Jesus never said anything about homosexuality so the answer is not a resounding "No". If anything he was against adultery, in other words he wanted people to be true to the one that they were with. A gay person can't do that with a female. Better to marry a gay person that he loves.

Try to use an appropriate analogy. A person is not born a drug addict. One becomes one through a series of bad choices.

The Bible condemns homosexuality, along with adultery, pederasty, catamites, bestiality, drunkenness, drug use, lying, stealing, murdering, kidnapping, witchcraft, sorcery, astrology, and things of that nature. If you like doing those things, and I used to like doing a number of them, then in order to follow Christ, to gain the possibility to live forever in paradise Earth as Adam was intended to do, without sickness, disease, or old age. Violence, crime, etc. Then you have to stop doing all of those things.

The Bible is far from clear about a great many things and if you followed all the so called biblical laws of the OT, you would have to observe the following or accept at least they are God's laws like any other. Which you would/do not, presumably.

So anyway since words attributed to Jesus never specifically mention homosexuality, just basic cheaty sluttishness, I don't see why out of all the nonsense in the OT, you choose to pick on the so called immorality of homosexuality?

If Lot was such a paragon of holy virtue, that he was saved from the destruction that afflicted Sodom and Gommorah, why is it that noone suggests getting drunk, as he did, is an excuse for incest, which he took part in, twice, these days?

Maybe times change buddy. Wakey wakey.

In summary, I suggest moralising against homosexuality, suits your prejudices/insecurities. Has little to do with your devotion to God or commitment to the teachings of Christ, which by your judgement, you ignore.

You have no idea what you’re talking about in this particular area. The Bible is far, far from “clear” on this issue. Far from “clear.” There is no term in the original languages that transliterates to “homosexual” as it is understood today. In fact, the ancients had no concept of homosexuality as a sexual orientation. Any of the (very few) passages ostensibly dealing with homosexuality are more likely dealing with either temple prostitution or the cultural issue of shame and honor as embedded in gender.

Homosexuals are welcome to be fully Christian, and are acceptable, as is, to God who created them as they are. I say this as a duly ordained Christian cleric with standing in a mainstream denomination, and as one who holds a graduate degree in biblical studies.

No, the Christian Greek scriptures made it clear that only some of the Laws of Moses were in effect to the Christian, including homosexuality, but rather than stoning to death the perpetrator was only removed from the congregation until repenting.
That’s awfully convenient. I can’t think of a worse way to treat the Law or the teachings of Jesus. Just irresponsible.

Then you have nothing to worry about, so long as you marry the opposite sex and don't commit adultery, or fornication or steal, murder, etc. Even if you were homosexual and did that, or abstained from homosexual sex. Or anal and oral sex with even the same sex marriage partner. These are unnatural uses of the creator's gift of reproduction. (Romans 1:18-27 1 Corinthians 5:1)

Then pluck out your eye if you look once with desire at another woman. Not from today, but also check back in the past.
Those who still can see now, maybe they are pure enough to judge. Oh wait, probably they are pure enough "not to judge"

I wish people would stop being armchair theologians and priests. It’s damaging. I wouldn’t come to you for medical advice if you’re not a doctor. Why would I come to you for spiritual advice if you’re not accredited and ordained?
