Can someone please explain to me why a "drag show" is suddenly the epitome of evil?

What's disingenuous is the suggestion that MAGAists would ever set foot in a library.

What about it? Am I supposed to care? Is there something wrong with this? Is there something wrong with being a woman and a man shouldn't want to dress up as one?
There is nothing wrong with being a woman.

There’s definitely something wrong with men dressing up as a woman
and portraying femininity to the point of ridicule. Drag queens make a mockery of women by exaggerating the most extreme stereotype, negative feminine traits; heavily overdone makeup, excessive flamboyant clothing, overdramatizations, and more. I consider men in drag very misogynistic.

What sets drag performers apart from the past Blackface performers who stereotyped and made ridiculous caricatures of Black people for comedy and entertainment?

Nothing.

I don't think anyone looks upon them and sees a regular, every day woman. Society tends to not even think of drag queens and transwomen being the same anymore.

More often than not black face was done to potray negative stereotypes to reinforce how black people out to beand their "proper" place in society.
Drag queens are their own thing. Even ciswomen may ask them for makeup advice, but it's not even supposed to make people think that's how women are supposed to be. They have way more in common with corpse painted Scandinavian metal bands than they do blackface. Which would probably be pretty cool, a drag queen roaring out vocals in a band like Dimmu Borgir. Both groups are, after all, very big into large, flamboyant, not found in daily life over done up appearance for theatric's sake.
And everybody knows (or should know) it's just an act. Which means they also have more in common with prowrestling than blackface, as that too is over exaggerated with a dramatis personae that saturated with drama queens.

So they’re….idiots??

Like we used to mock people who said as much.
“Oh they’re coming for our kids.”
Said every bigot in existence.

Not saying we shouldn’t treat such folks with empathy. I’m just saying. There is a known pattern
If people do not approve of men preforming that way, they don't want these men influencing their children. Part of the reason drag queens read to children is to normalize their craft to children, and parents who don't approve of their craft will see this as going after their children

Really? It seems that some take it as an established fact that drag is dangerous. And I don't know why. And I wonder if even they know why. I wonder if they have ever actually examined their position.

So explain it to me. I say if I guy wants to put on a dress and read a book to children that is a good thing. More people should do this. And I don't care if they dress up like a clown, or a puppy or in drag.
Examining one's own philosophical or moral position is not something many of us are inclined to do. Mostly because we rely on our philosophical (ethical and moral) positions to decide how to respond to and proceed in life. We are not comfortable with the idea that these might be wrong, and therefor could be misleading us in life. Many of us would rather sacrifice the well being of others than face that prospect within ourselves ... sadly.

Also, most of us like to go along to get along. It's easier than having to decide everything for ourselves. So we do it even when the crowd we're going along with is in the wrong.

And people fear what they don't understand. They very often react to that fear with anger, and even aggression as a means of gaining back their sense of being in control.
