Christians in America

It just depends on where you are and how other groups celebrate their holidays. And actually there are several Hannukah songs that I hear on the radio every year during that time.

As this country becomes more diverse, I expect to witness a wider variety of acknowledgment and celebration of other holidays. In fact, I live in Texas and we have a large and growing Hispanic population. I see more and more emphasis of Mexican/Hispanic traditions, such as quincineras, and I think it's great.

However, every Christmas season I am once again irritated by our HR department's proclamation that we cannot play any Christmas music, even though MORE of our customers ask why we're not playing any music than would probably ever think of complaining if we were. I know that as a private company, our owners can do whatever they want about Christmas, and that's cool - but they are not OPPOSED to Christmas celebrating. We have decorations and we have a Christmas party - but Christmas MUSIC might offend someone???? Crazy.

i have to admit that's weird, either commit to it or not....

you might even start seeing the 3 wise men replace santa in the future
which is an older tradition and not started as an add campaign for coke

because they can't pray in schools...
no, what you can't do is pray in my face. the Deists got you christians to agree with this, what was so wrong with the old christianity...in their opinions prayers should be private, not a tool for community harmony or showing off.

You do not have freedom FROM religion.
yes you do. you cannot oppress me without me having the right and duty to completely annialate our unmutual relationship...that was the basis of our separation from the King. That is the Basis of "freedom of religion" - that you can't oppress me simply becuase you and your gang deny agnostic truth. our founders understood the truth of humanities agnosticism and judging by the 'fruit' of religion and the available evidence, info, and use of logic...quickly leaned towards a Diest believe and establishing a SECULAR nation. a nation that was not supposed to LIE as the Theists wanted it to. A true morally superior nation. one that supported only agnostic science and the progress thereof. To a Deist, there would be no "under God" because God is not ruling.... To a Deist there would be no "In God, We Trust" because there would be no basis for trusting. all those later additions were accomplished by christian liars deniers of agnostic truth who wished to undermine the REAL America because they feared unlegitimicing their war against the conservative chrisitian south and that the atheists would quickly convert them and remove their ignorance and bliss they found in religion the distractor.

Don't be silly. They may influence a close election

If you go to a Nascar race, you will hear a prayer. Freedom from religion would be if one person could cause the prayer to be canceled because you did not want to hear it.
you christians are your anti-agnostic ways are simply converting us back to what the Romans had. polytheism. soon you will see basketball games where they pray to "the gods" freedom From religion would imply that a person can shut this done simply because they believe it is satanic. yep, you are reverting us to polytheism and Pagan ignorance, but when you think about it...all religions are the same.

Or a sports game....
or a GOVERNMENT school when they recite the pledge?
people who are ignorant find ways to distract themselves.
the pledge should be "one nation, under what ever higher powers there possibly exist, indivisible, seeking justice and liberty for all"

No religion has a monopoly nor the exclusive rights to the word 'god'.
Therefore the word god in and of itself in the pledge of on the currency is not a violation of the separation of church and state.

And the Catholic Church has, which is Constitutionally illegal.

NASCAR is a private venue, they can pray to all nine aspects of Kali if they so wish.

For the record, I have not stated, nor do I believe, that Christians are being persecuted in this country.

Freedom OF religion and freedom FROM religion don't mean the same thing. They mean something SIMILAR but their subtle differences are what makes some people so mad.

Freedom OF religion means people can worship as they please - or not worship at all. I think this is reasonable. Freedom FROM religion means that people are guaranteed not to have to be exposed to religion at all. I don't think this is reasonable.

I think it's sad that where I work, we are not allowed to play Christmas music. I think that choice should be left up to the business owners - not the HR department. I mean, we are not even allowed to play SECULAR Christmas music. RIDICULOUS! It's so odd that even our customers who come in at Christmas walk in and say, "Wow, it's quiet in here - where's the music?"

I think it's sad when employees are forbidden to say "Merry Christmas!" and yet they can say, "Oh my god, I had a great time last night!" all they want.

Nope. Freedom OF religion means simply that no government entity can force you to worship in any way. That oughtta cover the bases nicely. No need for a wall "protecting" people from any contact with religions they may not agree with.

[QUOTEOur current Motto and Pledge were both replacments that were dug under that Wall using the Red Scare as a shovel and McCarthyism as the explosives]

The pledge was written in 1892 by an American socialist named Francis Bellamy and was being recited in public schools by October of that year. The phrase "under God" was what was added in the 1950s. Personally I don't care for that addition - I think it's unnecessarily inflammatory.

Same with "In God We Trust." I prefer E Pluribus Unim.[/quote]

We are saying the same exat thing.

ou merely do not liek the sound of "Freedom FROM Religion".

Is that an individual event/driver or NASCAR itself?
In that case, it's the event and several teams.

No government agencies are listed as series or season sponsors on the NASCAR web site, but I imagine that NASCAR probably gets a cut of the event sponsorship money. They definitely get a cut of team sponsorships in the form of series entry fees paid to NASCAR by the teams.

no religion has a monopoly nor the exclusive rights to the word "Christ" Christ could be just as "all-emcompasing" as God... what's your point? when you say 'god' you are also not saying 'gods' or 'alien overlord zenus'... perhaps we should just put "atheist pagan nation" on the coins... no one has a monopoly on what atheism means, maybe it means denial of paganism, pleanty of christians deny non-christian european believes. To christians God means their god. to me, the word "God" is blasphamy of agnosticism when spoken by a denier.

Butthe fact remains that separation of church and state means that the government cannot put one religion over another.
Now since the generic term god refers to various deities, depending upon whom you talk to, it is not putting one religion over the rest.

Just because YOU think of YHWH when you hear the word god, does not mean that every one does.

Not one religion, no... but it is putting one class of religions over the rest: the monotheistic ones.
