Citing staffing issues and political climate, North Idaho hospital will no longer deliver babies.

This will only get worse as the states are less purple and more deep red and deep blue. The moderates will have no power, and they are the only ones who can save us. Most people don't want to live in far right or far left states, so we need to get busy to restore democracy.
It's waining fast. Less and less freedoms under Socialist Democrats rule , and even some Republicans with questionable ties and decision making, and its getting worse each election that passes.

Republicans are taking away rights and freedom as fast as they can. Health care rights, targeting trans people, who have a right to exist. Republicans are getting worse with each election, passing bills to facist-ize education, targeting the vulnerable.

Hopefully as the dinosaurs die off, moderates will get elected in their place.

Both extremes are working hard. I hope we can stop it.
If there was a central position, we would have bipartisanship right now. Clearly that's a rarity today.

That's why I don't believe people who claim our politicians are in central field.

I really think a civil war is in the realm of probability if things don't start returning to the center.

I don't doubt it.

The shift has been to the right, not the left. Even Democrats have right-center positions on many issues.

Maybe now, people might want to get rid of the nanny state.

Then again, maybe weaponize it as revenge politics.

Your probably right. It's going to be used as a tool for revenge.
Pretending that it's about "revenge" and not superstitious and misogynous ideology, do you honestly think that forcing a 10 year old rape victim to carry to term is proportionate to a ban on plastic bags or any of the other trivial **** you cry about?

It's the legal mechanism that enables the nanny state and not the objects/subject in question itself that I rail against.

Freedom is Freedom , and includes big and small.

Why don't your posts reflect this attitude?
It had. I was, for example at the time it happened, I was critical of the newly overturned RvW and questioned why Republicans messed with it when it was already stable and legal as it was.

I illustrated or at least attempted to, in past postings, how those legal mechanisms of the nanny state can be used for just about anything and everything in its sights. People thought it was entirely over those objects and subjects alone.

At least you got what I was trying to relate on the matter here. :0]

You questioned why the evangelical party targeted the bodily rights of women, like it came as a surprise?

Also, do you consider speed limits and stop signs an example of a "nanny state" or reasonable restrictions? Where do you draw the line?

Which is certainly unfortunate. But the reason is that the birthing age population is shrinking. This is true both in Sandpoint, Idaho and in general in the United States. The birth rate in the United States has fallen to about 1.6 per woman. Few pregnancies mean less birthing facilities. Yes, that sucks for those that are pregnant. But the cause is demographics not anti-abortion legislation. Anti-abortion legislation is a secondary factor only. The closure of this facility would happen eventually anyway. Those with a political agenda to decry abortion restrictions (their favorite whipping boy) as the prime cause are wrong to do so.
The facility is not closing. The hospital is staying open. It is only turning birthing women away. What if they said they are turning away any other specific group? Would you find it disturbing if they said they were turning away cardiac patients instead of birthing women?
