Well the profession still does attract those who respect authority and the rule of law. All you've done is show that it also attracts, brutal, sadistic criminals who should never have passed selection and training in the first place.

On this we agree.
To ever achieve meaningful reform, it's necessary to
make people aware of the bad cops & the damage
they do to individuals & society. This means showing
cops at their worst....which is very common.

One problem is that most people know only what
they see in the news, ie, that it's a black problem.
People must learn that cops abuse everyone,
including whites, Hispanics, the aged, the young,
the infirm, the different, & the normal folk who
just happen to run into the wrong cop at the
wrong time.

One cop gets a year in prison for stomping
on the face of a handcuffed man they're
holding on the ground.
1 year is insufficient. The other cops should
also get prison for allowing this assault.
But none of them was fired from the job.

Cop responds to a call at an address.
Instead of going to the right address
to see a suspect wearing a green top,
the cop goes after a neighbor wearing
purple.
Cop is offended by a man's "mouth".
So several cops beat the man up,
& traumatize his family. Cop then lies
on his report to justify the brutal assault.

This one is more disgusting than most.
The cop wasn't charged.
Suit was for $3,000,000, & was settled for
an unknown amount.

Cops especially hate the poor.
Man minding his own business on the
NYC subways is assaulted, kicked off
the subway, & charged with felony assault.
All charges dropped.
NYC paid him $135,000 to settle a
$40,000,000 suit.
Lying brutal cops are still on the job.

An "elite" group of St Louis cops would drive around
in uniform, but in unmarked cars, throwing drinks at
pedestrians. They'd prepare by loading up with an
arsenal of fountain drinks that they'd toss while yelling
at their victims. Other cops drive behind them to record
the pranks.
Some went to prison with short sentences. Others
endured either short suspensions or no punishment.
Some even committed extortion & cyberstalking.
Many cops knew....but no one in blue snitched.

These were "elite" cops. I wonder how much worse
the garden variety cops are, eh.

I found my training manual! It's literally how the cops are told to be. They are told to be warriors and dominate and do not be nice or friendly because it could get you killed and don't delay in using violence.

Wildly different in ways I agree .. but your observation of "very little of that here" is anecdotal. While not as pervasive nor as accepted by the public .. there is a whole lot of "That" going on in Canada's police force .. by nature the control freaks are drawn to policing .. and lets face it .. we are not choosing from the top of the academic food chain in general .. but the ones that do happen in .. are the Uber control phreaks.

You have a bad cocktail to start with .. with laws that protect police like in USA .. that potential is going to be actualized .. albeit slightly less so in Canada .. simply on the basis of lacking as strong protection.

As Canada moves more towards the Police State of the spectum .. following the US Lead .. we should expect more of the Canadian Cop Control Freak to rear its ugly head.

And of note, looking through more training material, the pig my training manual heavily sources from, a one Dave Grossman (he's largely responsible for the warrior mentality and militarized police), claims that's just people recording to edit the footage before giving it to the media. One of his admires even claims its the fault of the ACLU picking up the race minority card to make the cops look bad (S.T.O.P.S. Sgt. Bob Magnuson).

When I see such videos, I search for supporting
news sources. This is useful.

I do not see police as the bad guys, calling me a bot is about as stupid as hating the police for the actions of a few. Or being prejudice against blacks for the actions of gang violence.
