Did God say that?! I Rape in the bible

*Paul*

Jesus loves you
Rape is one of the most heinous crimes imaginable. Yet few people know that the Bible often condones and even approves of rape. Note that in many places in the Bible there are references to "taking a wife". Don't be fooled into thinking that these were voluntary marriages. This first quote clearly shows that murder and force were used to "take" these wives.

Rape in the Bible

Why would god say that?!....
Quran 2:79
Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:"This is from Allah," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woeto them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby.

Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Does this passage look like the bible condoning and approving of rape? (even though there is no rape in this account but a taking of wives). Does this passage that I have posted rather not say that people did what they thought was right thus demonstrating the need for a civil authority to enforce Law.

The bad status of Muslim women is well-known to me, women status varies from Muslim country to another, however the status of Muslim men and children is bad too in most of the Muslim societies. Some (if not the most) Muslim societies suffer from poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, bad educational and health systems. In addition most of the governments that rule Muslims are undemocratic and they don't represent their peoples will. The interests of the poeple is in one direction and the current governments' interests are in the opposite direction. Those governments suppress the political life specifically the the Islamic political movement, in Egypt for example the Muslim Brotherhood is banned from legal participation in the political life although they enjoy wide public support. The case is the same in many other Muslim countries, including Turkey.
So, it's not just women who suffer but the society as a whole except those in power. However, when I asked for laws of punishment for the raped woman, this one is extreme, to say every Muslim country legalizes it is extreme too (which is not the case of course). But at the same time Muslim women (and men) face many injustices. To blame Islam for all this is inability to judge. When Muslims followed Islamic teachings, the world saw one of the greatest civilizations (the greatest ever in my view) in its history.

When anyone says this is Islam, he must support it with evidences from Qur'an and the Sunnah. If anyone refuses to accept the fact that Islam is the Qur'an and the Suunah, I can't help it. If anyone wants to stay ignorant, he is free.
Why do they suffer such hardships in your opinion. We do have poverty etc in other areas of the world, but rarely do we hear of major atrocities inflicted on these people like we do in many Middle East countries. Is it an Arab mentality instead of a Muslim mentality? I am really trying to understand the link between predominately Islamic countries and this type of problem you speak of. I really do not understand.

IMO all "holy" books have their contradictions. That is why I don't believe any of them are the inerrant, infallible word of God, if God doesn't contradict himself, that is!!

It's different, bible is proved to be wrong.
While I agree the Bible isn't correct, that is still just an "opinion" we both hold and therefore cannot be considered 100% accurate. So imo it is not different. I do not see any holy book as completely accurate. I also don't see any holy book as completely inaccurate either.

Stories?! excuse me, but they are not anything except commandments and approvals of such stories.
The rape of Tamar isn't a commandment -- it's a story. The mob at Sodom wasn't a commandment -- it's a story. Neither story approves of rape. In fact, the stories are about something completely other than rape. I don't understand where you come off saying that the whole Bible is commandment. It isn't. What about the Psalms? What about Ruth? What about the gospels?

I'm not a Christian so yeah I don't believe the Bible to be correct(at lest for me), but I also believe that the Qur'an is also not correct. But you lose all credibility when you put a link that does nothing but flame the book and religion you trying to talk about. Then you tell Christian they are wrong about there own religion when they tell you that that site and you are misinterpreting it. And then you you ask someone to post a link to try and do the same thing to the Qur'an you tell them that the site can't misinterpret it, well that's funny "Hey pot met kettle"..... I love the smell of hypocrisy.

In what capacity? The Bible does need to be factual in its presentation in order to be correct with what it was designed to present. If the Bible failed to present it's point, then it would be "wrong" and not worthy of our attention. Happily, the Bible delivers the Truth it was designed to deliver, you can't disprove it, and that just eats at you, doesn't it.

That passage did not call for rape and even if it did it does not mean that God commanded it or approved of it, Judges is a historical account - a history book. As the narrator said every man did what was right in his own eyes (not the eyes of God).

There is an account of rape in the same book:

Judges 20:5 And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me: and my concubine have they forced, that she is dead.

but look at the reaction of the Israelites towards their own brethren:

Judges 20:12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?

And did you realise that they went to war with their own brethren over it?

Judges 20:10-11 And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel. So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

Does that seem like approving of rape to you?

Did you know that God tells them to punish the tribe (Benjamin) from whom the rapists came?

Judges 20:23 (And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)

Does that seem like God condoning rape to you? Do you have any idea? Have you even read the passage for yourself or have you gone by the mindless creators of that foolish website?

Did you notice when the bible talks about rape it is able to make it very clear and does not confuse it with "taking a wife"

Lets conclude this the same way that the bible concludes this unpleasant story:

Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

God does not lie. The Bible is not "God's own words." Therefore, the contradictions have absolutely no bearing on your argument.

It isn't just an opinion,it's fact bible is wrong(we prove it),really no one believes in what it says,so while being 100% accurate i say bible is incorrect.
About the Quran, why don't see it as completely accurate.(maybe you will want to reply in the quranic forum).
