True dat, except that the priesthood was not always celibate, Purgatory didn't come about until 1700 years after Jesus died, and the Immaculate Conception wasn't thought of until the 19th century...You laugh but the Catholic church is based off the Bible.
Them's fightin' words. You're speaking directly to the Catholic Church's claims of divine authority.Jesus didn't ordain anyone...
Exactly the problem. You laugh but the Catholic church is based off the Bible.
The priesthood has never been for women. The Apostles were all men, as well as thous the Apostles ordained. And the Priesthood is a carry on from the Old covenant.I never understood this position. No mortal human being is close in character to Christ, yet the Catholic position seems to be that if a person has a penis, then he's "close enough".
What is it about the difference between the genders that makes a man qualified to stand in for Christ but a woman unqualified? Why is gender the defining characteristic that allows a person to do this? Why not any of the rest of Jesus' various characteristics?
Edit: and before you bring out the line about how Christ is the "bridegroom" and the Church is his "bride", I should point out that this would be just as much support for an all-female laity as it would be for an all-male clergy.
Exactly the problem.
They ought to try basing the Church off the Scriptures the Bible is loosely based on.
Oh wait, with all the time and effort they spent picking and choosing which scriptures were to be in the Bible.....
:biglaugh:
You should take your act on the road.

What about the Apostles?Jesus didn't ordain anyone...

And Jesus was not a women.
You do not like the Church because its based off the bible.
Why the **** are you posting again? Just to talk ****?
No that is not true. Diocesan priest do not usually take vows of poverty but promises to stay away from materialism, to live simple. But Priest who are members of orders, like Franciscans, take vows of poverty and are not allowed to really own anything. They were all poor though, and that is clearly not a requirement.
To be fair, there is a high amount of discrimination ini the bible, so to say that a church based in the bible is prone to discrimination is hardly an unbeleivable argument.
We are talking beleives here, no need to get personal.
Chill dude, and blessings

Women are valued and regarded with dignity in the Church. Outsiders say they are discriminated against, yet this is not true for the many religious women. They take on very important roles, yet are somehow discriminated.
And its non-sense that an atheist like him would come into this thread just to troll.
It's not like the reason men can't give birth is because there are rules against it. The Catholic Church made rules to prevent women from attaining roles of authority in the Church hierarchy, and you're arguing that the reason for the rule is some mystical Christhood that women ain't got.
It's discrimination. Just call it what it is.

How nice of the Almighty to excuse women from positions of authority in the Church hierarchy so they could finish their housework.its not discrimination.
Anyway, the catholic church did not make up the rule...God did. Basic reason is because he gave men the responsibility to take the lead. The men were to be the ministers...not the women
and the fact is, women have enough responsibility to take care of without the added role of leading a congregation. Amen to that!
Based off? Didn't they choose what was included in the Bible? Are you sure it's not the other way around? You laugh but the Catholic church is based off the Bible.
