Do Christians and Muslims Worship the Same God?

Bowman

Active Member
... the difference between the Muslims and the religion of Christ is one difference Is that the Muslims worship and are subject to the Creator is God

Why do you worship a god who cannot even state, in the first-person singular, that he created anything...?

In the Bible Jesus recited the Sh'ma Yisrael which states "Hear O'Israel, the lord your God is One."

I do speak Arabic so in the Quran in the Exordium or The Opening, it states:

Bismillah ir rahmaan ir raheem

Alhamudu lilahee rabbil alamin!

Translation: All praises are due to Allah, the Lord of the Universe.

The Bible says in Exodus: though shall worship no other gods before me (God)

The Quran says:

Bismillahir rahmaanir raheem

Qul'hu Allahu Ahad

Translation:

Say he Allah is One (and only)

The only difference between christianity and Islam as everyone rightfully mentions is the divinity of Jesus. However Muslims like jews and christians believe in one supreme deity that is not only the creator of this solar system but of the universe.

If you read the entire Quran he does it transitions between first-person plural and first person singular.see the following:

Bismillahir rahmaanir raheem

Wama khalaqtu ijinna waal-insailla liyaAA budooni (S. 51:56)

Translation:

"I have only created jinns and men that they may serve me."

Yes, the Qur'an mentions that God is the name of 99 the name of all of God such as:
Merciful Creator who can Ghafoor Muti rich Mighty
Otherwise, the sky of the 99 name of God and these names and names of God is his

hello and thankyou for the reply.

I understand that God has many titles... but Abrahams God of the Hebrew scriptures is known by a personal name. I want to know if that name is in the Quran.

Regardless, it remains a rather pathetic assertion.

Well servitude to God may not be the same kind of servitude we think of. To Muslims, taking a breathe of air is servitude of God since.God created the mechanism within the brain to inhale oxygen. Maybe God sees servitude different who knows but absurdities are only ours to exclaim.

And it is with that rationale that any hair brained idea can be promoted as being reasonable. It's a poor way to make a point.

Personally, I find the statement so wrong and misleading, on so many levels, that it is hard to know where to begin. In all seriousness, I cannot imagine a being worthy of being called a god making such a pronouncement. I can see men saying this however and easily so.

Well instead of saying its absurd can you show some examples or is the statement of God asking for servitude problematic?

It does strike me as being exceptionally amusing having to justify my sentiments to a self-described Agnostic/God curious/mad Neuroscientist. Things that make one go, "".

Let's see:

Bismillahir rahmaanir raheem

Wama khalaqtu ijinna waal-insailla liyaAA budooni (S. 51:56)

Translation:

"I have only created jinns and men that they may serve me."

First off, your particular translation, though somewhat accurate, is at variance with MANY other translations.

Compared Translations of the meaning of the Quran - 51:56

In the first 21 translations "serve" was used a mere 4 times; while worship was used 16 times. From this, we can see that there is some dispute over what the sense of the text means. The preponderance of opinion is that the term, in context, means "worship" with a distinct minority view saying it means "serve".

What do I find wrong with the text? Oy vey.

I have only created jinns and men that they may serve me.
The first problem is with a being claiming to be the creator of both jinn and men. To my thinking, the likelihood of this being factual runs perilously close to being NIL. So, that is assertion #1.

Assertion #2 is that jinn are in fact real and not the creation of overactive imaginations. God, in theory, created them, so they MUST therefore be real, even if we have no direct evidence that they do.
Assertion #3 is that even jinn worship their creator and that they were created for the sole intent of worshiping their creator, thus their existence has no meaning outside of that framework.
Assertion #4 is that the author of this intellectually bankrupt sentence created man. Man's sole purpose is to glorify and worship his creator. Nothing outside of that framework is of the slightest importance and can be deemed therefore to be keeping him from his inherent duty.

I can't speak for you, but I have far more interesting things to do than worship a being who needed to created legions of beings to prop up its sagging sense of self worth.
If you like, we can get into the psychological reasons why this is also not a great idea.

I am assuming you don't speak Arabic so allow me to inform you on certain things about Demotic languages. Arabic words can have variant meanings for instance, the word Alamin, which in english can be translates as universe. However Alamin can also mean matter, everything, etc. When vowels are placed or misplaced meanings of words change. In some Qurans you may have different words and those variations depend on the person translating not the actual language itself. That is why its important to actual know the language because it makes a difference not just for religious reasons but because it helps to understand what is being said.

As far as the whole God wants humans to worship him issue I think we can narrow this down to you simply disagreeing how an extraordinary deity like God would want worship for mortals. I got that. I don't disagree with you actually. In fact if I were to make an inference of how God would behave I would say like Dr. Manhattan.

In the Bible Jesus recited the Sh'ma Yisrael which states "Hear O'Israel, the lord your God is One."

The Shema that Jesus references defines the Trinity.

That is why He said it was most important.

Bismillah ir rahmaan ir raheem

Alhamudu lilahee rabbil alamin!

Translation: All praises are due to Allah, the Lord of the Universe.

الحمد لله رب العلمين

Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena

1.2 The praise (be) to “allah”, the lord of the jinn, and of mankind.

Jinn are demons....why is "allah" lord of the demons, brother?

This means that he is Satan.

The Bible says in Exodus: though shall worship no other gods before me (God)

The Quran says:

Bismillahir rahmaanir raheem

Qul'hu Allahu Ahad

Translation:

Say he Allah is One (and only)

One what....?

Jesus' divinity is what matters.

However, that is hardly the only difference...

Wow you are silly...the jinn according to Islamic theology are made of smokeless fire, and exist on a different plane of existence than humans. You can say they exist in a universe somewhat parallel to ours. Alamin the word can be translated as everything.....hence universe which means "all that exist." Let's say I took your demon definition of Djinns which is inaccurate, if Allah created everything absolutely then he is essentially Lord of demons, Djinn,s humans, Satan, etc.

"One what....?"

the only deity that exist in this universe and all other possible universes that exist.

"Jesus' divinity is what matters."

To the Christian yes, but Muslims are absolute monotheists. They worship none but the Creator of the universe.
