God gave us Jesus. Christmas is a good excuse to give people something nice.
Has no one ever wondered that some gift giving comes with a cynical question? What's this for someone might say if you give them something. Christmas makes that question go away. It's for Christmas! I know Christmas can be awkward. But it is a great excuse to do something nice for someone else in Jesus' name.

Boy, you guy's are fast, about the lights though,
And I doubt that God really cares.
I lost count at about 16000, but I love 'em.
A lot of work though, for a real old pagan !

Yep. Odd, isn't it?
It isn't actually odd. It is a reminder, although we all know that it isn't really Jesus' birthday, to we Christians of the greatest gift given. To those who are not Christians (and those who are) it is a time to be with family. Most people have busy lives and find it hard to find a time to visit family. Maybe it's sad they need an excuse, but Christmas and other holidays give a good excuse for that very thing.

I am a true Christian, and I do not celebrate Christmas. I visit the family that I love and want to see, when I am able. I don't need an excuse either.

Same actually. I have a 1940 copy of the Diaglott, and a digital one. Don't really use it a lot. Waiting for a new interlinear from the literature servant. Lost mine. Oh well. How are things anyway?

You say you mess with the Strong’s Concordance; this is the basis for the KJV of the Bible. Every single word of Strong’s supports the KJV. Try also the Vines Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words and the J H Thayer’s Lexicon of the Greek words. You will agree that there is safety in the multitude of Counsellors. You talk about the Emphatic Diaglott. Is that the one written by Johannes Greber years ago? The watchtower used his works extensively until it was pointed out that he was a spiritualist. They dropped him like a hot rock, probably around the time they predicted the end of the world in 1975. It is certainty true that the truth will set you free. From Webster: pagan:
Middle English, from Late Latin paganus, from Latin, civilian, country dweller, from pagus country district; akin to Latinpangere to fix — more at pact
First Known Use: 14th century

Origin of the word hell from Wikipedia:
The modern English word Hell is derived from Old English hel, helle (about 725 AD to refer to a nether world of the dead) reaching into the Anglo-Saxon pagan period, and ultimately from Proto-Germanic*halja, meaning "one who covers up or hides something"
The word hell does not belong in the Christain Bible. Research the word origin & meaning if you like. It's interesting that now many churches don't teach hell even exist, never did; it's actually a pagan concept.
Jesus was a Jew. The ancient Jews had no concept of a "hell" a place of ever lasting torment, fire & brimstone stuff. The ancient Jews were more concerned with having contact with God thru prayer. The worse thing for a Jew was to feel cut off from God without hope of reconcilliation.
My answer:-
What you appear to be saying is:-
  1. The word ‘Hell’ does not belong in the Bible.
  2. Many churches don’t teach Hell.
  3. The Ancient Jews had no concept of Hell.
  1. Yes the word Hell is a substitute word for lots of things, including grave, pit, the abode of the dead, and Sheol. In the Old Testament it was understood as the abode of the good and the wicked. But as a general rule, what may be obscure in the Old Testament, is made clearer in the New Testament. The word Hell is recorded 51 times in the KJV. The non-Biblical origin of the English word ‘Hell’ is not important. The overwhelming fact is, that Hell does exist. There are many people today who can attest to its’ existence, because they have been there and been resuscitated.
  2. Yes, many churches don’t preach Hell, because they are week and don’t want to offend. What else can you say? The days are urgent.
  3. The ancient Jews did have a concept of Hell. To say that Hell to the Old Testament Jew is nothing more than a grave and there is no consciousness in every instance, is incorrect. Consider these Scriptures:-
Psalm 55:15 (NIV2011)
15 Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the realm of the dead, for evil finds lodging among them.
Ezekiel 31:16 (ESV) 16 I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the world below.
Isaiah 14:9 (ESV)
9 Sheol beneath is stirred up to meet you when you come; it rouses the shades to greet you, all who were leaders of the earth; it raises from their thrones all who were kings of the nations.
Ezekiel 32:30-32 (ESV)
30 “The princes of the north are there, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down in shame with the slain, for all the terror that they caused by their might; they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit. 31 “When Pharaoh sees them, he will be comforted for all his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD. So we see in these few instances, there is a definite teaching in the Old Testament that there is some idea of a consciousness in Hell, but you will find Hell much more expanded on in the New Testament, particularly by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. More than any other person in the Bible, Christ spoke and warned against going to the underworld. He revealed the terror of going there. Hell is literally a spiritual rubbish dump. For example
Matthew 13:39-42 (KJV) 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
To ignore Christ’s teaching is to show your contempt for Him
May the Spirit of God speak to you? Christ’s prophet. Certainty for eternity.

The Emphatic Diaglott was written by Benjamin Wilson, and first published in 1864.Greber was born 10 years later.

I've some friends from India. Here is America they celebrate Christmas along with everyone else. Has nothing to do with being Christian. For Christians it might. For non-Christian who celebrate it, it's non-religious,

Do you think the people who aren't Chriistain but celebrate Christmas know that for many people it is about the birth of Jesus?

Psalm 55:15 (NIV2011)
15 Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the realm of the dead, for evil finds lodging among them.

Yes,Christmas is Pagan.....
Now.....

This passage in Psalm 55:15 is King David speaking about Ahithophel.King David was familiar and acquainted with Ahithophel.

“But it was you, a mortal man who was as my equal, one familiar to me and my acquaintance, because we used to enjoy sweet intimacy together; into the house of God we use to walk with the throng. Desolations be upon them! Let them go down into Sheol alive; for during their alien residence bad things have been within them. As for me, to God I shall call out; and Jehovah himself will save me.”—Ps. 55:13-16.

In the latter part of this passage David is speaking to any future traitors.Beginning with verse 15.He turns his attention from Ahithophel, to others.

"13
But it is you, a man like me,

My own companion whom I know well.

14 We used to enjoy a warm friendship together;

Into the house of God we used to walk along with the multitude.

15 May destruction overtake them!

Let them go down alive into the Grave;

For evil resides among them and within them.

16 As for me, I will call out to God,

And Jehovah will save me."

This passage has nothing to do with hell, as a place of fire and torment.David speaks poetically about his friend's treachery and how he feels about future traitor’s.Just as it had happened during Moses time with the household of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.

NIV
Numbers 16:31,32. 31 As he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open;32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions.…

Interestingly notice what it says right before this passage I just showed you.

Numbers 16:29,30. …29"If these men die the death of all men or if they suffer the fate of all men, then the LORD has not sent me. 30"But if the LORD brings about an entirely new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that is theirs, and they descend alive into Sheol, then you will understand that these men have spurned the LORD."

This might sound like hell but it is not.Notice what it goes on to say in verse 35.

35 Fire also came forth from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering the incense.

So God used fire, which consumes, to destroy the 250 men as judgement, instead of being swallowed up by the earth alive into Sheol.
Korah
was amongst those who were consumed with fire.
  • Numbers 26:10 Then the earth opened and swallowed them up. As for Kor′ah, he died with his supporters when the fire consumed 250 men.And they became a warning example.
This was judgement from God.The people that were killed for their treachery and swallowed up by the earth were spared, in a sense, and still have an opportunity for everlasting life.It is made clear that these people, who were swallowed up by the earth, for their sins, did not inherit everlasting destruction. They were judged by God and killed.Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. They still can be resurrected in the future.Unlike Judas Iscariot, who is referred to as the "son of destruction." He is destined for eternal destruction.Just like the Pharisees.

So we can see in Psalm 55:15 that it cannot refer to a place of fire and torment, better known to some as hell.It merely speaks of beneath the earth as being the grave. The reference to being swallowed alive does not mean they went to live in hell, because God does not grant eternal life for the sake of torture. These people who were swallowed up by the earth died. They were sent to an early grave, nothing more.
