Why? The appalling conditions and treatment that seem common.
We are not going to become vegetarians or vegans till science gets us lab meat. Food prayer in BhagawadGita:

"Brahmārpañam Brahma Havir Brahmāgnau Brahmañāhutaṃ, .."
To Brahman offered, Brahman the food, to be digested by the fire of stomach which also is Brahman, by me who too is Brahman, ..

Will those who eat dog meat switch to lab meat?

In time, they will. Perhaps it will be cheaper and tastier, otherwise it is no go. But stray population is a big problem in India since we have strong 'Animal Cruelty' laws. They have killed people. A recent government order says that strays should not be fed on the street, do it at your place. I do not know who will implement it and who will follow the law?

Second image, dogs being fed during Covid times. Third image from Pakistan where they are poisoned.

I have a hard time looking at this as nothing more then a cultural thing.

Indians don't eat beef - we do.
Americans don't eat horses - we do.
Chinese eat dogs - we don't.

(we = Belgians).

Who are we to condemn other cultures for what meat they eat?

Either you condemn meat eating in general, or you don't imo.
But to condemn meat eating from one particular animal simply because in your culture it is seen as a "special" animal... I don't see the rationality of that.

It's an emotional statement. And it's perfectly fine off course to be off that opinion.
But I don't think it's fair to condemn other cultures for not complying to your emotional standards.

Note, though, that I'm talking specifically about culturally inspired / emotional standards.
I feel like it would be an entirely different thing if the objection would be more objective, like for example if people were happily eating endangered species. That would be an argument where you can make an objective rational case as opposed to a mere emotional or cultural one.

I see dogs as loyal companions thus I'm not keen on the notion of eating them, especially when the conditions and process are cruel. However I do recognize that this is more due to cultural perspective than objective logic.

But cats on the other hand, "bon appetit."

I'm a bit torn on cats.
They are my favorite pets. Totally a cat person.
But if I'm being totally honest..... I think they are delicious.

I don't want to find out though. Although secretly I do.
But I couldn't bring myself to it.

Still. I think they are delicious.

Empty the shelters. Stock the soup kitchens. Win/win.

Correct.

In China, SOME people eat dogs.

The agenda is racism.

In WW2 American propaganda had it
that Japanese are bad people, of course.

Eating raw fish was cited as an example.

Americans are so barbaric, putting big dead
creature on the table then slashing at it
with long knives.
