So what? Bill Clinton got deferments and attended military parades. President Truman, who also never served in the military, even had military participation in his inauguration parade, as have other Presidents including President Kennedy.

But none ordered a parade for themselves.

The point is, Obama didn't order a parade for himself, which is what Trump is doing. There is no other reason given. As journalist Joy Reid wrote on Twitter: “Oh my god ... he wants to be Kim Jong-un.”

If you follow the links on that Wiki page most of the parades are 'Welcome Home' or part of a festival. Not a 'mine is bigger than yours' sort of parade; they are only held by despotic regimes.

Someone should suggest to Trump that what would make a military parade for him the "best parade ever," would be to instruct all the soldiers to goose-step in formation before his viewing stand, saluting him as they march by. What Trump is talking about is to have an special parade going down Pennsylvania Ave. IOW, a special parade just per just his request. With the other presidents, these parades were scheduled to commemorate certain events.

He said he can do that, so how would he know if he didn't do it? Also, there have been accusations against Trump by over a dozen women, and yet the Republicans refuse to even allow an investigation on this. With his record of adultery and his affairs, why would almost anything he may do be of any surprise.

Ok for you, then. Others recognize that military parades exhibit American military prowess which can have a deterrent effect with our adversaries. In other words, they can prevent needless conflicts and save lives. Certainly that would be money well spent.

Since the soldiers & attendant security are already on the payroll,
I doubt it would cost as much as it looks. People are quick to
think the parade is solely for Trump, but I can see a more public
benefit....like fireworks, monuments, air shows, etc.

Vets are honored in pretty much every parade in every town.

Not wanting a military parade meant to stroke Trump’s ego is not taking anything away from honoring vets.
