Drug and alcohol addiction

I’m sorry you feel that way, and I’m glad you have found your own way to stay sober. I stand by every word I said though.

AA saved my life when I was without hope, and I’ve seen it do the same for hundreds of others, so I get a little defensive when I see it being attacked.

That's fair... AA was helpful for me. But only for the first 3-6 months. After that I needed something else.

Like has been stated AA can work. It's just not for the majority.

Do posted speed limits work for everyone? Why not? Because humans have free will to accept or reject suggestions! AA is no different! AA is a voluntary program. Today many more young people come to AA who may not be ready to stop. Court ordered people come, therapist and doctors send people. AA graciously try's to help anyone who comes in! If people don't want to stop its like a posted speed limit! The decision to drink is with the drinker.
No, speed limits work for the vast majority because they realize that they are usually reasonable and because of the cost if one exceeds them. They are set with the realization that most people will exceed them by a few miles per hour.

AA on the other hand works for only a very few and appears to harm more than it helps.

Your sharing the same garbage opinion most people had the entire time I spent in AA. Never got sober until I left the group and sought real help.

"It's not only that AA has a 5 to 10 percent success rate; if it was successful and was neutral the rest of the time, we'd say OK. But it's harmful to the 90 percent who don't do well. And it's harmful for several important reasons. One of them is that everyone believes that AA is the right treatment. AA is never wrong, according to AA. If you fail in AA, it's you that's failed."

The only harm AA does is tell people the truth about alcoholism which kind of ruins their drinking!

Point is, people decide to speed even if they are told not to. AA offers help for free but cant make people stop drinking! I think you know this but just antagonize as usual!

I disagree with this statement, but will leave it as is.
When defiant people come into AA and battle very suggestion then don't blame AA! Frankly, in the beginning if someone wanted to battle and do things their way AA would politely explain that they weren't ready and have a nice day!

So suddenly you can find fault with the drinkers? Your condescension is only outdone by your inconsistency!

It still matters whether one says

"Don't speed because you're a ****ing piece of garbage who needs to speed. You have a speed disease that needs sating."

VS.

"Don't speed. You speed because you have a medical speeding problem. Let's find out why you speed, and what you're running from.".

Did someone tell you that you were a piece of garbage? Or is that what you heard? Because alcoholism is a disease of perception. The greatest "victimizers" of alcoholics are themselves! They are terribly hard on themselves in their inner life! Nag themselves to death! Eventually the untreated alcoholics self-destructs!
