Would you agree that it's a mental health condition?being trans isn't a disease.
Nobody who knows what a mental health condition is would agree to that.Would you agree that it's a mental health condition?
How would you characterize it? It would appear that advocates of GAC agree that some combination of talk therapy, dangerous, irreversible drugs, and perhaps surgeries are necessary or else patients will be unhappy and perhaps their suicide risk goes up. (BTW, I think the evidence for the suicide claim is also weak.) I understand that mental health conditions can be stigmatizing, but we don't pretend they don't exist do we?Nobody who knows what a mental health condition is would agree to that.
How?No but it can be wildly overrated.
IT is not a mental illness. And the way you phrased your response shows you know that it is not.Would you agree that it's a mental health condition?
how would you characterize people who try to call a minority mentally ill? Who habitually lie about "dangerous irreversible drugs" Who lie about childhood surgeries? and dismiss the stigmatization they inflict as unimportant? How would you characterize it? Seems that these days the only ones claiming or implying that being trans is a mental disorder are those with an agenda.IT is not a mental illness. And the way you phrased your response shows you know that it is not.

The medical field is certianly no longer considering it one:
I would hope we could discuss / debate this very important topic without making it personalhow would you characterize people who try to call a minority mentally ill? Who habitually lie about "dangerous irreversible drugs" Who lie about childhood surgeries? and dismiss the stigmatization they inflict as unimportant?
How?How?
One would think that a "qualified clinical psychologist" would know what gender dysphoria is.Here is an excellent essay on Why Gender Dysphoria is a Lie. It's a X (twitter) article so I'll copy paste part of it here. The link is: x.com
Psychological distress and aberrant behaviours are always conceptualised through the lens of culture, and in any society, at any given time, we create medical and psychological narratives to best understand aspects of human behaviour based on these prevailing norms. These then go on to shape further behaviours. This is known as the ‘symptom pool’.Anorexia was almost unknown in Hong Kong until a public awareness campaign was launched by Western psychiatrists in the 1990s. Within a few years there was a 2,500% increase in cases. Girls diagnosed with anorexia were treated sympathetically, they were taken out of school and given positive reinforcement for their illness.Unsurprisingly, more girls began restricting their eating, thus causing a growing feedback loop of youngsters developing anorexia. The awareness campaign in Hong Kong, had in effect, created and spread a novel mental illness (and its behavioural sequalae) into a population of receptive and suggestible adolescents. In the 1980s and 90s ‘False Memory Syndrome’ led to families being torn apart by accusations of supposed childhood sexual abuse, particularly incest. Through guided imagery, hypnosis and simple suggestion, psychologists encouraged clients (mainly women) to ‘recover’ entirely factitious ‘memories’ of sexual abuse, some supposedly occurring as early as three months old! After the 2004 Sri Lanka Tsunami, the unknown concept of PTSD was introduced into the general population of Sri Lanka by well-meaning foreign aid agencies. In the 2000s, Japan saw a surge in the incidence of depression after GlaxoSmithKline released the antidepressant Paxil into the local market.Even further back, the infamous case of the symptom pool in operation is Salem, Massachusetts, in the late 1600s, where mainly teenage girls (sounds familiar?), fell into the mass delusion that they were being ‘pricked’ (attacked/possessed) by the Devil. Adults ran with this idea. As more girls received positive attention and sympathy by showing symptoms of possession, the contagion spread. The rest, as they say, is history.Currently the West is in the grip of an unprecedented medical scandal arising from a new entrant to the symptom pool, namely Gender Dysphoria. Here is why from the perspective of being a nearly 30-year qualified clinical psychologist, I believe that Gender Dysphoria is a false construct. One that has caused, and if not stopped, will continue to cause immeasurable harm to innumerable numbers of people. It's too long to post the entire thing here, so read the rest on X. x.com
can we have examples of this bad science and bad medicine?Yes, and all of these organizations rely on WPATH, and recently the world has been given strong evidence that WPATH does bad science and bad medicine. Again, skim through the WPATH files.
I agree. Most others realize, admist all the ongoing activism and political promotion out there, however turns out, as i see and understand, being simply a case of gender confusion wearing the dysphoria label because it's so much in vogue and with the times in social media. One would think that a "qualified clinical psychologist" would know what gender dysphoria is.
you might want to learn what gender dysphoria is as well.I agree. Yeah , in actuality it's kind of rare, but it does happen. Just not as much as a few extremely vocal people are saying nowadays.you might want to learn what gender dysphoria is as well.
This is a giant load of crap. It's implying that mental disorders are just completely made up. Which is a load of crap. Here is an excellent essay on Why Gender Dysphoria is a Lie. It's a X (twitter) article so I'll copy paste part of it here. The link is: x.com

More ignorant garbage from an idiot who doesn't know what they're talking about. There's lot of dumb people with Ph.Ds and psychologists can definitely be quacks, like any other "doctor". I guess you deny the entire concept of mental illness, then? Or do you only do so when it comes to groups you have decided to hate? Here is an excellent essay on Why Gender Dysphoria is a Lie. I provided several examples earlier, but again: not establishing informed consent, and doing ad hoc experiments on patients.can we have examples of this bad science and bad medicine?
