Fear in the wake of a Trump presidency.

As I posted in another thread, we all know thousands of illegals voted for Hillary, so the PV is skewed in her favor.
How? By what mechanism did illegals vote for Hillary and what is the evidence for it? I honestly don't care if its true or not but I'd like to see the evidence first.

So have Bigfoot sightings.

Yes, it's absolutely true. My brother's best friend's cousin's girlfriend said her father and her uncle heard about a guy they know who actually saw and communicated with Bigfoot!!! He posted it on his Facebook page, and you can't put anything on Facebook that isn't true, y'know!

Before the election there were a number of illegals interviewed on the news channels who said they'd be voting for Hillary - CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox aired some.

They were worried about being deported or they were worried about their parents being deported.

In addition to that, some states do not require an ID to vote, which is ludicrous. This leaves the door wide open for voter fraud.

Are you sure? Because last election when they threw millions of dollars at "safer voting" to fight voter fraud caught what? 16 people? You get one vote per registered voter. In what way is the illegal immigrant going to get their vote in? By impersonation of someone who isn't voting?

then they have the ability to overturn not only the the Marriage Equality but also Roe vs Wade.

No they do not have that ability. Not unless a suit is brought before the Supreme Court, and the SCOTUS deigns to hear the case or there is a constitutional amendment. Btw, there is no "Marriage Equality Act". Obergefell v. Hodges is a Supreme Court decision based on constitutional grounds. The SCOTUS cannot go back and review its cases on a whim and overturn them. They cannot say "gee, let's reverse ourselves on Obergefell v. Hodges" or "it's Monday, let's strike down Roe v. Wade. Yes, Roe v. Wade has been challenged since 1972 (and probably always will be), and under a variety of court compositions it has stood.

The only other way to set aside something like Roe v. Wade or Obergefell v. Hodges is by a constitutional amendment. And you have a better chance of being eaten by Sharktopus than that happening. Remember the FMA and ERA? A constitutional amendment ... well, I get tired of writing it... https://www.archives.gov/federal-register/constitution In the history of the US there have been only 27 amendments.

This is all as bad as "Obama's going to take our guns away". He cannot do that. He cannot override the US Constitution or set aside SCOTUS decisions. When is this sort of misinformation going to stop? It's most disconcerting how many Americans do not know how their legal system and government works.

So it is impossible for him to change the supreme court makeup and then it is impossible for another trail to come up to the supreme court again? If there is a mechanism set in place that stops them from overruling their past ruling when a court case comes to them? If there is please tell me it will free me from a lot of anxiety.

A huge part of why many people voted Trump was because they believed he would help overturn Roe v Wade. ARe they stupid for believing so?

It seems the conservative right will fight tooth and nail to either overturn what was done in supreme with for Obergefell v Hodges or fight for religious liberty laws, or both. With a majority no telling what they will do.

We'll be into the 2024 administration (if we survive that long, at this rate) before that happens. Seriously, it's a long drawn out process. The SCOTUS is not going to waste its time on a case that has already been decided, and has no credible reason for being heard. By the time a new justice is appointed, it could be three years that Obegefell v. Hodges was decided. In that time there would be no reason for the court to hear a case to overturn it.

The court can decide anything it wants, reasonable or not. But probably the only reason the court would reverse itself in this case is if there is a shift in society. That is why Obergefell v. Hodges was decided the way it was. Enough time has passed to show that same sex couples can form stable bonds and even raise families.

Sure, anyone can file a lawsuit for anything, but it will have to have societal or legal merit for the SCOTUS to even hear it. By the time a case against Obergefell v. Hodges ever got to the Supreme Court, so much time will have passed that it would be a non-issue. Again, Roe v. Wade, which imo is far more divisive than same sex marriage, has been constantly challenged, and still stands 40 years after the original decision.

I am not worried about it.

Yes. Imo it was all campaign rhetoric, lies and promises that probably can't be fulfilled. He will have a lot more on his plate than trying to get a 40 year old decision overturned.

Revelation all the time
Given how things appear to be playing out so far, where (some) sore losing progressive types are taking matters, vengeance, into their own hands and both protesting but assaulting what they identify as Trump supporters....

...they are right now very very very very very very fortunate that Trump supporters are mostly sitting back, taking it. If that flips, woe to America, and good luck in your spouting off sore loser rhetoric. It could mean civil war. That is being tempted right about now. Bloody fights where all those who historically were treated like crap, then had Progressive comes to their side and play the victim card over and over, will be set back to square one.

LW leaders need to step in and step up. If they will not, for whatever reason, then at some point right wing people may step in. So, if anyone reading this thinks there is such a thing as right wing gun nuts, and that is currently being called racist that doesn't deserve to live, doesn't deserve to be listened to, does deserve to be approached violently, then pray tell, how does that play out?

Here on forums, where we are only being intellectual, you/I can feel the passion and participate in way that makes sense. I see neither side backing down, but this is just words. Arguably is the most effective way to handle such things, but not necessarily the one that speaks the loudest.

You want to label me (or likes of me) as racist, misogynistic, dim-witted because I voted for Trump. I really hope, intellectually speaking, you have more than that in your arsenal. Otherwise, I will thoroughly enjoy defeating your pithy rhetoric.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Not even 24 hours after the Trump's election and already fear is setting into the hearts of the people. Today some professors canceled class while most others took a break from lectures to have a discussion about what had happened. We talked, ranted, vented, and even cried. Yes, we cried. We told stories of our fears, we really let it all out. I just wanted to share a few stories from my peers with you guys. I wanted to put real faces to these abstract fears, you know, bring the humanity into it. I'll be changing the names to protect identity, but the stories are real. They're the stories of my friends and classmates. People I see every day are being shaken to their cores by the harm already stirring, only hours after the election. So often we just hear stories that people are unhappy, but it's important to remember that there are real people behind the headlines with real lives, real emotions, real fears.

Abby is a sophomore anthropology major. She's from L.A., and she feels safe there. Her father, however, is not as lucky. He is living in a small town by New Orleans. He is black. He called Abby this morning when he saw what happened. He told her that when he went out to get the mail that morning, a number of people drove by yelling n***** at him, throwing things and shouting threats. She said she had never heard her father cry before but this morning he broke down, and she listened to him cry over the phone. He is afraid for his safety. She told him to get out of there, go somewhere safe. He doesn't know where to go, he doesn't have anyone to stay with. He feels lost, and afraid. He told her that he wasn't going to leave the house that day, it just wasn't safe to go out. Just take a minute. Think about it. Are we really returning to a place where people are afraid to leave the house because of their race? Is this what our world is coming to? I keep saying that word, but scary is really the only thing I can say about it.

Ahmed is also a sophomore, and an engineering student. He is from Egypt. His family is all still living there, and he goes home for winter and summer breaks. He sat up late last night with his roommate, who is also Muslim, as they watched Trump win. They talked for a while, trying to lighten the mood, asking each other what they think will happen to them now. Ahmed said he probably won't be going home this winter, and instead will be visiting a relative living in Canada, because it's safer there. He still wants to go home over the summer though, and every other break. He said he's worried that if he leaves to go home, he won't be allowed back in, despite having a student visa. He's also afraid that if he stays, his family won't be able to come over. He wants to stay here, get a job, and help his family immigrate someday. But he's afraid that because they are Muslim, they'll be denied. He's being put in the place of deciding whether to risk seeing his family, or setting up a good life for himself. He's afraid of getting harassed here too. Our school is in a conservative area, Ahmed said he's afraid to go too far off campus now, because he doesn't know what the backlash will be against him if he makes a wrong move. I gave him a hug after class, and we talked for a while. He told me, trying to force a smile, that he's been through a revolution at home and he made it out just fine, what's one more? He's trying to keep himself optimistic in the shadow of this fear. Nobody should have to wonder if they'll be barred from going to school because they're Muslim, nobody should have to worry about not seeing their family again because they want to go to school. This is the country we're creating. This is what Trump is doing to us, and it's only been a day. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say other than I hope we can make it through this together.
Don't believe all the media hype. There are incidents and protests but nothing to get all bent out of shape over. Most democrats protested peacefully while a few took a violent route.

Trump isn't going to do all that. People like blowing things out of proportion like usual.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
The difference between this and every other election is that usually when a candidate looses, their supporters feel angry whereas this time they feel scared. That's the difference. Giving Trump the presidency validates these rhetorics of hate, and with hate free to flourish we may all feel the effects.
Hate is a shared commodity.

If Trump enacts real genuine hate policies like Jim crow laws and such, I'll gladly join the ranks for his impeachment. I say this as a republican who has voted for Trump.

None of the contention was for race oppression. It was all about the state of the union effecting all sides. I'm sure Trump's aware of this.

Honestly, this is more gut wrenching than the ones where people are getting physically assaulted for voting for Trump.
I agree. I can't believe that anyone would treat their child this way.

I hope social services catches up with this woman. She is incredibly abusive.

What can I or other individuals do to make those who feel threatened safe again?

Sorry guys, you just didn't pay close enough attention, or you were listening to Limbaugh who was saying the market collapse was president elect Obama's fault..... In reality the market (as explained by those crazy left wing moonbat journalists and economists) had been falling, then crashing all year before the election. Again, its a minor point, but just another insult that should not be let by.

Here's a close-up...Obama was elected AFTER the yellowed part.

There is a reason they are called FUTURES- it's a reflection of future expectations. If you waited until an event comes to fruition before you bet on it... you're not going to get great odds anymore! :)

Not only his election, but control of the house and senate, became to look probable by the summer of 08.

When banks stop lending, builders stop building, employers stop hiring, investors stop investing, consumers stop buying...

you tell me, does this sound like fear of the past... or fear of the future?

Whatever. I have no tolerance for intellectual dishonesty and laziness.

Except for the truck-load going on between your own ears apparently.

Anyway, Watchman, you're right:

---- Riots and protests are exactly the same thing.

---- chanting and burning are synonyms,

--- tabloids are always more reliable than mainstream news sources.

--- "Can you post a link:" really mean "Liar! Liar! Pants on fire!!"

--- and anybody who asks you for a source to back up your claims is getting out of line and deserves to be lied about.

Thanks for straightening me out on all that.

Now you go ahead and finish your tea, be sure and tell the chessercat and the Red Queen I said hi, and I'm going to slip back through the looking glass and see what else is going on in the forums.

*smiles, nods, backs away slowly. . . .*
