Fear in the wake of a Trump presidency.

The way I look at it is there's no point in being concerned about something we can't change. I'll bet hundreds, if not thousands of people are making themselves sick over all this. We can't change whom he is going to nominate to the SCOTUS; we can't change how the SCOTUS is going to decide an issue. I'm certainly not going to make myself a nervous wreck over it.

I'm not a nervous wreck over it. It's just my largest concern.

You can't tell me if Hillary won you wouldn't have concerns.

There are a few reports like this mentioning protesters starting fires. http://www.ktvu.com/news/216585071-story

A number of fires were set on Telegraph Avenue and Broadway, and firefighters were called in to extinguish them. The protest had largely died down by 3 a.m., however.

http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/loca...er-Trumps-Presidential-Victory-400509211.html

Protesters, who predominantly appeared to be students and other millennials, also burned Trump effigies, smashed windows of the Oakland Tribune newsroom, and set tires, trash and newspaper stands on fire in Oakland and Berkeley.

The thing I fear, but is definitely more like a concern for me at this point, is when the other half of the nation gets fed up with this mentality and bites back. IOW, civil war.

Right now, that other side is allowing this, and trusting police can handle it. I think the other side has much reason to believe this will either fizzle out or be dealt with by police (on Obama's watch) in way that halts it if it continues for say more than a few days, and continues to get increasingly disorderly.

Yet, if cooler heads don't prevail, and people (on Left) are so sure Trump supporters are (something negative, violent) then they are tempting that to come out and confront them.

Which during time of war that we are engaged in (under Obama's watch, soon to be Trump's watch) is what I think a cooler head would realize benefits our enemies, or people that would love to see America destroyed both abroad and within. Thus, one wonders what such protests are actually about, especially when they are increasingly disorderly and violent? Does Obama allow it to grow for reasons that may not be clear, and then it gets halted by Trump? Or does Obama invoke martial law, such that the people in the protest/riots that are actually pro-America, realize then that they have no leaders at the national level who support whatever it is they are looking to accomplish through this protesting?

This won't happen. There is a tiny trickle of people out there making a fuss. It's not large enough to be called a movement. It's a few dozen morons looking for a reason to be hooligans.

All good news from the Trump supporter perspective. I hope it is, remains to be, accurate.

I don't know if I have any concerns about what either one of them would do, not if I don't have a direct or indirect way of controlling it. Maybe I've seen enough in my 59 years to know it's all the same thing over and over. Lather, rinse, repeat in every administration. I fully and freely admit I'm jaded and cynical. The Viet Nam era protests, especially Kent State, did not end the war. Neither Nixon, Kissinger, Le Duc Tho nor Ho Chi Minh cared what college students had to say. It ended when it ended.

OK, that is a very real possibility and concern, though not yet a fear.

Right now, that other side is allowing this, and trusting police can handle it. I think the other side has much reason to believe this will either fizzle out or be dealt with by police (on Obama's watch) in way that halts it if it continues for say more than a few days, and continues to get increasingly disorderly.

Acting out of fear, as it were, is always a real possibility. They don't call it "jumping the gun" for nothing.

Pent up and misdirected rage and frustration. At that point I wonder if the protesters know what they're protesting and raging about. I think Trump might be more likely to invoke martial law, but I'm now doing what I rail against others doing... uninformed and premature speculating.

I can honestly state that my first reactions to the anti- Trump protests were "what a bunch of crybabies" then I hoped they didn't burn down their own or anyone else's cities and then blame their own ignorant, baseless chimpouts and resulting carnages on someone else and expect them to pay for it. In the end I'd say the worst of the emotional reactions are behind us, hopefully at least.

Nice story but here in MD it was just another day. Don't let irrational fears get the better of you. Egypt is the country Obama style community organizers are accused of destabilizing. Egypt was fine before Obama, Christians and Muslims living side by side for centuries.
Your education concerning Egypt is a bit sparse. Egypt was "fine" with "Christians and Muslims living side by side" (at least in recent times) only when it was under the thumb of others. How did the Jews fit in? Colonization by the French and the British had a strong influence on Egyptian society. Napoleon invaded the country in 1798 and the French helped secularize and modernize Egypt. Britain seized control in 1822. Egypt received partial independence in 1922, but it was still under Britain's control. In 1936 Egypt became an independent country, though it was run by the Brits during WWII. In 1952, the Egyptian monarchy was overthrown, and in 1953, the Arab Republic of Egypt was formed.

I think what disturbs me is how you and other conservatives I've spoken with have no recollection of events that have been in the news which reflect poorly on Trump. You know....real events, with evidence....with unedited video footage, etc....
and now all of us will suffer for your ignorance, because now its too late for your desire to seek knowledge. :(

What makes you think I'm a conservative? I've never once said I'm a Trump or Hillary supporter. I didn't vote for either one of them. Wanting balanced information doesn't make one a conservative or liberal. But for the record, I think he's a loud-mouth and is like Loki or Eris in enjoying the discord. I don't have much use for Hillary either.

That was kind of my reaction, too. I wondered if all of them actually voted. (Not that it really matters, I think, as the ones I saw were in states whose electoral votes will go toward Clinton.)

Sorry guys, you just didn't pay close enough attention, or you were listening to Limbaugh who was saying the market collapse was president elect Obama's fault..... In reality the market (as explained by those crazy left wing moonbat journalists and economists) had been falling, then crashing all year before the election. Again, its a minor point, but just another insult that should not be let by.

Here's a close-up...Obama was elected AFTER the yellowed part.
indu-d_1.gif

The market has become valued less based upon how companies are genuinely doing.

The market is now more geared towards control through fear and hysteria. People with big money collapse the market using fear (it's called short-selling) They then make a killing covering at the bottom. They then ride it back up making even more profit until stability. It has become a common trend every presidential election season.

The crashes and rise back to stability are all manipulated.

This hysteria over Trump's victory is hysterical. OMG, the last two days have been an absolute hoot-fest.

Meltdowns to the left, meltdowns to the right, safe spaces at maximum capacity, microaggressions off the scale, everyone is dehydrated because the Republicans are drinking their tears.

How do snowflakes make it from day to day without pharmaceuticals and a psychiatric team? Are there teddy bears and blankies in their backpacks?

JHC. GROW. UP.
I'm starting to get these weird flashbacks of that graveyard thread, though I seem to remember it was someone else who was getting upset over something that, to the other, didn't matter at all.

Eight years ago the White House had its first Negro tenant. Some people were afraid of that. Who is responsible for that fear, the president?

Maybe you are right. You better hurry and tell your friends Foxy Woxy, Cocky Locky, Ducky Daddles, Goosey
Possey and Turkey Lurkey.

Idiomatic usage

"The name "Chicken Little" — and the fable's central phrase, The sky is falling! — have been applied to people accused of being unreasonably afraid, or those trying to incite an unreasonable fear in those around them."

You might have to dumb it down a little for me. This went right over my head. Please explain how Trump is responsible for this?
Ah yes, how possibly is it the fault of the Nationalist Demagogue, whos platform was one of nativism, supremacism and the general assumption that those who are not like us are criminals and dangers to society as a whole, has given fervour or otherwise inspired those who would act on those impulses?

All it takes is a quick Google search...

Plus gullibility and an over-active imagination. :)

You can find anything through google if you aren't too picky about the credibility of your sources.

I did a "quick google search" and I saw all that. what I didn't see was anything sanctioned by the Associate Press.

http://www.thepoliticalinsider.com/liberal-riots-trump-destroys-hillary-clinton/

The political Insider: https://www.google.com/webhp?source...&ie=UTF-8#q=is+the+political+insider+reliable

Not trusted or taken seriously by anyone outside it's target audience.

http://www.eastbaytimes.com/2016/11/09/bay-area-protesters-rail-against-donald-trump-presidency-set-fires-vandalize-buildings/

East Bay Times. Never heard of it, which means I can't offer an opinion about it's reliability one way or the other.

What I can say is that with all the news sources on the internet, if you had to dig up something this obscure, that says something all by itself.

http://fortune.com/2016/11/09/election-donald-trump-protests/

Here we have the one and only source that you provided that actually does is from the AP, and it's talking about protests, not riots.

The far left gets defeated and all of a sudden they turn into animals. They are behaving like spoiled brats that did not get their way, and are now pitching hissy fits. The irony is that the buildings and the cars that they are vandalizing are from the area they live in that voted Democrat.

Ever think about trying to get a job with a tabloid?

I think you're being intellectually dishonest.

I wouldn't call that "thinking".

All I did was ask for a credible source, not sure what your freaking about about.

It's being reported everywhere.

So have Bigfoot sightings.

Here's another report from the East bay Times. A publication in the thick of it. http://www.eastbaytimes.com/2016/11...ump-presidency-set-fires-vandalize-buildings/

See my reply to Neo Diest.

It's also been reported on ABC and elsewhere.

At this point, it's like you're purposely not posting any links that could be legitimate, even if they're there.

Is this some kind of passive/aggressive head game?

Here, I'll do it for you: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/prot...mps-presidential-projection/story?id=43413322

What do you define as a reputable source?

Anything with the AP seal of approval would do (for future reference).

Seriously man, you've been involved in the forums long enough to know that people shouldn't even have to ask you for a decent source, let alone beg for one.

Let alone going ape**** when someone points all this out to you.

I keep wondering why one important point doesn't seem to come up -- and it is this:

Most of America's allies in the world are expressing very real concern over Trump's election, while the Russian Parliament and President are expressing pure delight.

One of the things that is very well-known about Trump is his excessively thin skin, and his instinct to smack back at every perceived slight. That, for those who didn't watch, made him frequently look childish and petulant in all 3 debates. But if your traditional enemy has seen this, and knows how useful it will be in future negotiations in tough situations like the G8/G20, and other international situations, I would have thought it would give you all pause...it would me!
