Nice reasoning....here's mine. God as our Creator would know exactly what would make us ill and therefore warned us of the danger.
I would think that the greatest danger in these things would come from those who truly believe that this was “God’s law”. Do you realize just how many of these laws carry the death penalty for violators? Pick up one too many sticks without consulting the calendar and your done for. If “God” wanted to warn us about dangers I think he would have included a warning about religious fundamentalists.

'''Sexual slavery''' refers to the organized coercion of unwilling people into different sexual practices. Sexual slavery may include single-owner sexual slavery, ritual slavery sometimes associated with traditional religious practices, [[slavery]] for primarily non-sexual purposes where sex is common, or [[forced prostitution]].

One and the same, right? And wasn't "sexual slavery" the added term you used?

When someone sells another human being as a piece of property against their will and forces them into a "marriage", not only is it slavery, it is rape. Both are inexcusable, inhuman, abhorrent and immoral practices that your bible both condones and advocates. Thus one is left with no choice but to conclude that the bible and the god portrayed therein are nothing more than disgusting and irredeemable filth. There's just no way around it.

Depends Upon My Mood..
There is alot contained in Leviticus. My sister has a very interesting theory on it, that makes since. There are very strict dietary laws contained in that book. Since they knew nothing about micro-biology, bacteria, viruses, illnesses, or anything else of that matter, that they noticed certain meats (such as pork) had a high chance of making someone ill. Since they did not know the reasons why, they came to the conclusion that is was God's will that they do not eat such "unclean" meats.
And since mankind would not know even the basics of genetics for a few thousand more years, since homosexual relationships could not produce offspring, and since no offspring ment a lesser chance of the tribe surving, it was deemed that God also had a problem with us queer folk.
Just my guess (and hers), but I thought it made since.

Thats probably about what it boils down to.

On top of the fact the majority are born "heterosuxaul" and they are repulsed at the thought that a man might be attracted to them.It scares them to death.

UMM becuse I've noticed even some athiest are "repulsed" at the thought of two men together ..or are "agitated" at the thought another man might want to get some bum bum off of them..

Its 'primative".Its a "primative" fear..I dont think the bible created homo phobia.

No, they are not one and the same.
Sexual slavery is an umbrella term that includes prostitution, but is not limited to only prostitution.

Leviticus 19:29 as listed
New International Version (©1984)
"'Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness.
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
'Do not profane your daughter by making her a harlot, so that the land will not fall to harlotry and the land become full of lewdness.
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
"Never dishonor your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the country will turn to prostitution and be filled with people who are perverted.
King James Bible
Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
American King James Version
Do not prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to prostitution, and the land become full of wickedness.
American Standard Version
Profane not thy daughter, to make her a harlot; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
My point is that you are attempting to limit the argument to prostitution, when Father Heathens argument was sexual slavery.

How do reconcile Exodus 21:7-11?

Like it or not the Bible treats women as though they are the property of the man.
Much like owning a dog or cat.

I guess the question for starlite is...

Are all of these Leviticus commands of equal stature,
to be kept under penalty of punishment by god?

and if not, why?

When someone sells another human being as a piece of property against their will

And just where does it say in this scripture that the daughter was sold "against" her will?

In Israelite society a person who became poor could sell himself or his children into slavery to care for his indebtedness. (Ex 21:7] If an Israelite daughter was sold by her father as a servant (slave) and the master took her as a concubine, her owner could allow her to be redeemed if she did not please him, but he could not sell her to a foreign people. (Ex 21:7, 8) A Hebrew slave was to be released in the seventh year of his servitude or in the Jubilee year, depending upon which came first. [Ex 21:2] The freedman either remained in the home and in the employ of his former master or received a farm and capital to get started in making his own living.

Genesis 2:18 says:

New International Version
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

King James Bible
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures
And Jehovah God went on to say: It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.

American Standard Version
And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

A complement is a counterpart, something that makes complete. It provides what is lacking or needed. In the case of the man and woman, each was created with a need that the other filled. Their qualities balanced, or complemented, each other so well that the man and woman as a married couple were considered to be one flesh. (Gen. 2:24)

Wives also were free to express themselves to their husbands (Ge 16:5, 6) and at times aided their husbands in arriving at right decisions. Ge 21:9-13; 27:46, 28:4. The bride was usually selected for a man by the parents. But, under the Law, as it was in Rebekah’s case, the girl had an opportunity to voice her feelings and will in the matter. (Ge 24:57,58)

As a result of moving away from God’s guidance, the human family began to devise their own rules of conduct. Because of this, the woman in many cases has come out the loser, for man’s greater physical strength and aggressiveness enables him to dominate the female and often abuse her, which was contrary to God’s purpose.

Personally I feel that the role of a woman deserves more dignity and respect than a cat etc....

For this reason, people who pursue such unnatural sexual inclinations find themselves contending with God. The Bible contains this warning: “Woe to the one that has contended with his Former, as an earthenware fragment with the other earthenware fragments of the ground! Should the clay say to its former: ‘What do you make?’” (Isaiah 45:9) Surely it is reasonable for the Maker of humans to give direction on sexual matters. Is it not also reasonable that humans should follow such direction?
IMO, it's unreasonable for the Maker to give his directions to one group of Middle Eastern nomads and expect all people everywhere to follow them from that time forward.

Nice reasoning....here's mine. God as our Creator would know exactly what would make us ill and therefore warned us of the danger.
Then why did God have Paul tell everyone that they could eat whatever they wanted? It's not like there were any major advancements in refrigeration or food storage between the OT and the NT that would have made previously unsafe food safe.

It's even more unreasonable that he would give them one set of laws and expect us to follow them... when he gave us another set of laws entirely.
Desert laws have little use in the coastal forests.

No oysters no lobsters and no clams; boy talk about dull. And how would Eskimos survive w/o whale meat and seal fur?

Course those sheepherders didn't know Eskimos existed. So it never occurred to them that no seal fur makes for a cold winter indeed.

But you would think god would know.:p

no prob. :cover:

I sincerely hope this is answering your question. If not, please let me know....

There were over 600 laws in the Mosaic Law, not just the Ten Words. They are not equal....
Laws governing legal cases highlighted God's justice and mercy. The judges were granted latitude, considering each case on its own merits, examining the circumstances, as well as the motives and the attitudes of those accused.

Proverbs 28:13
He that is covering over his transgressions will not succeed, but he that is confessing and leaving [them] will be shown mercy

The Law given to the nation of Israel contained within it the procedure that was to be followed in civil cases and also in cases of misdemeanor or crime, misunderstandings, personal quarrels, and troubles on the individual, family, tribal, and national levels. For a violation of the first seven commandments, the penalty was death. The punishment for stealing was restitution and compensation to the one whose property had been stolen; for false witness, retribution. The last commandment, against covetousness or wrong desire, carried with it no sanction enforceable by the judges. It transcended man-made laws in that it made every man his own spiritual policeman and got at the root, or source, of the violation of all the commandments. If wrong desire was indulged, it would eventually manifest itself in a violation of one of the other nine commandments.
