Gunshot wounds--leading cause of death for American children

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
The reaction time to defend gun rights is astoundingly quick. If only the same enthusiasm was spent considering the trauma for students, teachers, parents, first responders and all of those triggered from the school shootings they experienced in one of the many school shootings over the years. That stress lasts a lifetime.
Thank goodness school shootings don't happen very often. 28 dead and 60 wounded on average per year in the USA. Still terrible though.

And that VFW post was breaking the law.

Anyone can drink if someone will serve them, doesnt make it legal.

Which if you look at my post 'legally' was key there.
I realize that which is why I pointed it out. Oh, also, I was with my son and I believe it's legal then as well. He did not get drunk.

It turns out that the young shooter in the latest incident was investigated for making threats a year ago.

Georgia high school shooting suspect was investigated in 2023 for online threats, authorities say

Apparently, the father admitted to owning "hunting rifles" but claimed that his son did not have unsupervised access to them. We'll have to wait to get details on where that AR-15 platform weapon came from, but I'm suspecting it was what the father considered a hunting rifle. People actually do use these weapons to hunt with.

My view is that all guns should be prohibited in the homes of parents whose children are on record as threatening to commit mass murder. Public safety should trump the idea that private gun ownership in these homes is needed for militia duty.
Wait a minute, are you referring to that well regulated militia that is the justification for citizens having guns, I agree that having guns in a well regulated militia is not a bad idea, but where is the well or even regulated for the rifle in question?

My point was they can be sent out to fight in wars, possibly die, legally kill people but can't legally drink.

Handguns/pistols are responsible for more deaths than rifles/long guns.

But most everyone goes after rifles/long guns.

Agreed. Along with stricter background checks that include minor records and medical records.

I brought that up before and some complained minor records are sealed and medical records violate HIPPA.

Too bad. If little Billy was torturing animals, etc and was put on mental medication as a minor and has been in psych wards as a minor and/or adult, he doesnt need to be able to buy guns.

Terrible is all you have to say about it with that link? Back off on the Lithium maybe.
I am not on any lithium, or anything else for that matter. I have already given some advice. I don't repeat myself.

What burns my *** is courts/court houses, police stations, government buildings, etc have metal detectors, bullet proof glass, etc just in case.
But not schools. Evidently school kids are less important.
Well, I can understand the need but I also understand the need in schools. However, many, many schools require students to move outside between building so I don't really know how that would work.

Most all school shootings happen inside the buildings, not outside between buildings.

Courthouses are areas of regular and expected conflict, why do you think schools should be in that category any more than say women's clothing shops?

Right and ask me how I know. Or don't, doesn't matter to me, but here's what went down in Tyler, Texas, when I lived there, and I had met the man who lived above Edward Jones, Mark Wison, who was shot and killed:

Weird, yes they can cite you for not having your licence on you, but if that is it it is almost guaranteed to be harassment. Reminds me of the time I got stopped in Kentucky for having NY plates and long hair.
Yeah. I've been stopped for having California plates in New Mexico.
Where I live now, I shot of a quick text at a very long red light. Got pulled over. I figured I must have a light out. Nope. Texting. Checked my license, address wasn't updated yet so he ticketed me for that.
