Has Greta studied this?

When you have to use a child to further your cause, your side has lost from the get go. A little more adult responsibility please.

Stop using children.
Using a child? Rather hyperbolic, no?
Like many young people, Greta is being an activist. I’m not sure why people are acting so scandalised by this. Protesting and calling for change is practically a cliche of youth.
How about we set a better example for Miss Thunberg and act like civilised adults?
Or you could continue yelling at all the kids on your lawn. I mean whatever, you do you.

Greta has been used, of that there is no doubt.

Some examples of hyperbole –

The Left expects people to cave in to the mob.

The entire environmental movement has deviated from its noble beginnings and is now beholden "to the extreme left" according to former Greenpeace Canada president Patrick Moore.

Mr Moore said while some groups, like Extinction Rebellion, function as a "cult" even mainstream environment groups like Greenpeace are pushing "phony" campaigns.

"Before you know it, as it happened with Greenpeace, it turns into a racket," he told Sky News.

"By the mid 80s, we had basically addressed all the really pressing environmental issues of air and water pollution, and many of the other issues.

"Now they just make up issues, like the 'War on plastics' is completely phony, and so is the GMO scare, and so is the worry about radiation from nuclear power plants."

"It's all completely irrational... I think the environmental movement is so far off into the extreme left politically it isn't an environmental movement anymore."

He explains it clearly here.

First of all, Rowling is a TERF. Going by her twitter anyway. So these oldies at Sky news pretending they know what’s going with the youth are... well they’re kind of adorable.
This is what sky news looks like to me

Secondly, defending Carbon Dioxide instead of demonising it?
I mean okay? Sounds suspiciously like emotion fuelled rhetoric, no?
“They’re so against carbon dioxide, the cretins.”
I don’t remember anyone demonising carbon dioxide. I do remember learning about carbon monoxide poisoning in primary school chemistry. And again in health when someone decided it was a good idea to broach the subject of suicide.

I’m going to be honest right now, I don’t consider right wing news rags to be logical rational sources. Just look at the way the gentleman introduces his guest in the second clip. Boasting that he’s not some hippie lovey, oh no he’s an “outsider.” Weird flex but okay.
It’s so obviously politically biased and trying to be “hip” that I was kind of impressed with the meme reenactment.
Got something from an actual news source?

Even if for the sake of argument you were right. Why does that make it okay to harass a teenager? I mean you’re acting like she’s Hitler or something. But she’s just a kid who is concerned for the future and advocates for not wrecking the planet with greed.
How awful??
Seriously did she shoot your dog or something?

Look the way I see it, we have to live on this planet. You really shouldn’t crap where you sleep, right?
So why not invest in more sustainable resources? Even if you’re right, moving forward is always preferable to remaining stationary.

Im about to have dinner so Mr Moore will have to wait until my stomach is satiated!!

Using children as propaganda tools is so last century.

Adults are not so easily fooled or threatened these days.

How dare you.

“Using a disturbed girl as an activist is child abuse. Her parents & organization are a disgrace.”

How dare you.

Au contraire.

The Left are triggered by any opinion that differs from theirs.

They remind me of Idi Amin when it comes to climate change.
You were the one ranting and raving about propaganda.

Take a deep breathe. Have a bath, have a drink. We’re alive and that’s awesome.

looks to me like you are the one so deeply triggered, by opinions.

Green and climate issues are fundamental to the future of our planets ecosystem, and ultimately our own future as a species.

Random thanks for your insight I guess it really doesn’t seem to bother you that we are all paying adsorbate prices for our electricity that used to be so much cheaper. As to right wing or left I tend to take notice of what’s being said by both. but you seem to have a attitude problem when it comes to evaluating anything from the right. With all that being said are we just going to let all coal power plants fade away into oblivion so that we have to pay even more for our electricity which would surely lead to not having enough power to run our economies. I mean surely you must realise that coal power stations are much more efficient and environmentally friendly in how they perform and are run these days. I do think it’s much wiser keeping tried and tested energy performers with those being maintained and expanded apon than just risking the wellbeing of ones country on alternative energies that cannot produce the required power when needed, and certainly not at the ridiculous prices we are paying now. As to your comment that we all live on this planet and that you shouldn’t really crap where you sleep. I’m sure that’s true. So maybe you should take note and stop crapping on everyone else who has to fork out the extra on their monthly electricity bills. Anyway hope you enjoyed your lunch.

We have come to a point when it is not about cheap energy.
It is about the survival of The entire ecosystem including us and the lives of future generations.

The cost of energy is what it is. At the moment we are stoking our boilers with the lives of people and those of all living creatures. this is as costly as it can get.

I had an unfortunate brush with the Alt Right a couple years back. Which admittedly might colour my perception, since I know the “dog whistles” as they’re so called. I am quite familiar with the deeply layered reactionary memes. Which are on full display on this thread. Unintended, I think.

But you do know that I’m Australian, right? Both left and right wing politics in my country are not the same for how they are casually used on this forum (mostly American based.) Both parties look conservative from where I stand and it’s not like I’m some super duper leftist hippie flower child either. Though perhaps I am by American standards, I don’t know.
Though I will admit that I have an attitude problem. I’m a sarcastic cynic trying to hide my soft side lol
I’m trying not to be as acidic, but my natural Australianstan snark gets in the way a lot of the time lol

I pay my bills, I work for a living. So I’m not sure where your beef is. We probably agree more than disagree on that particular issue

But I’m not concerned with what’s tried and true. Slavery was once tried and true, tradition doesn’t automatically equal the best. I’m concerned with the future and fossil fuels just won’t last forever. We need to start with solutions not just throwing up our hands because the oil barons might have to pay an extra buck or two (oh the horror!)
Conservatism only impedes progress because it’s too afraid of change. I say to hell with tradition, let’s try it.
Because at least we tried something instead of just whining that it would cost us a few bucks. Avarice much?

Just in case anyone misunderstands my rather abrasive attitude here, I have nothing against people with conservative political values and opinions. Im just saying, I just don’t jive with tradition personally. But that’s just me

Also I enjoyed my meal very much, thank you.
I had pork spare ribs with plum sauce :D

Greta will no doubt go on with her education. And I expect that she will be awarded many honorary fellowships.
And I'll bet that she is fairly pleased about the cleaner world that our lockdowns have aided
The UK government is thinking of ways to continue the cleaner cities that we now have, and is going to spend out on cycle tracks, footpaths, etc and discuss how electric scooters might be legalised for city use.

It's one tiny gem in all the darkness of this year.... and Greta will not be forgotten by many people.

Who are the ones that are using and abusing her?
Well, you're not exactly supporting her. :D

An easy lesson for any dunces out there is simply to go look at the satellite pics of our cities and industrial areas...... they are cleaner now than ever.

What we need is clean air, clean seas, good ecology, and clean energy production. If you can't help with that then you ain't helping, imo.

How true.
When we have ever been attacked we have put down the balancing books and gone all out to survive. Global warming, like covid, is an attack of the very worst kind and we need to come together to beat it.... It is our worst enemy, imo.

What? Me worry?
You don't need to have studied climatology to understand the basics of the science behind climate change. Though it does help if you are not impenetrably stupid.

But Greta is?
No. She is merely a spokesperson for climate scientists. Which she has herself stated many times.

But people who don't know what they're talking about seem to focus on her almost exclusively.
I personally suspect that's to some degree because she is an easy target, as they don't actually need to engage with the science in order to engage with her, and can go right to the personal attacks.

Which scientist, in particular?
