Help on Karma question

Okay...so how do you create good Karma...and avoid creating bad Karma ?

There is no such thing as 'good' and 'bad' (ie/ what you might consider good another might consider bad). Karma is reaction to the action you have made. If you steal, something will be stolen from you. If you are kind to people, people will show you kindness. Those are very simplistic examples, and karma is never so simple, but that will give you an idea.

Thanks Madhuri....this very thought then about karma reaction is kind of scary...someone once told me he got a slap on the face from a friend of his, and I said how did you react back, he said, "nothing...i just said Thank you "....for now my Karma account on that matter is closed...what i did to that person in a past life has been repaid...lol

Haha! He is a smart person. He could have reacted and that is exactly how we manage to stay around here life after life

Actually we continue from life to life because we wish to learn from our experiences. If folks want to call it karma, I suppose one could call the resulting knowledge a fruit of karma, but it may be better to drop the concept entirely as it is simply value judgment.

Friends,
Karma example:
There is a road accident happening in front of us and you finding someone injured immediately go to his rescue and take him to the hospital this karma which is without PRIOR THINKING is something that clears an old balance and does not accumulate whereas myself standing next to you THINK that no, should not involve myself in helping as it will result in wastage of my own personal time which could be used for my own productive gain actually is increasing my karma balance.
The root to it are again THOUGHTS and which are from DESIRES.
Till all desires are completed which uproots all thoughts moksha is not possible.

Friend Zenzero,

There will never be a completion of the Karmas because it is not only the Karmas of the gross body, but also the subtle body which will accumulate. Even with dropping the thoughts or desires, the Prarabdha Karma remains and possibly even the Sanchitta Karma which has been accumulated in the past. Bhakti path says that Moksha is not through Karmas primarily, but is through God primarily. Karmas are important, but on total surrender to God, all types of Karmas of the past except the Prarabdha Karma is gone. Then the devotee's Prarabdha is as per the will of the God only.

Friend Satsangi,

Yes, accept that *surrender* to existence or God as you label IT is a pre-requisite for emptying of all desires and thoughts.
As personal understanding is limited to experiences alone, could have a limited understanding is true and accepted; as the journey is still ongoing.

Friends,

A simple example to highlight *karma*.
Have picked up the habit of smoking, taking tea & alcohol since 40 years.
Though at times am able to do without these things for sometime but the habit which is embedded in the system comes back though succumb to them at times but with awareness and this AWARENESS of being HERE-NOW! helps in slowly dropping those habits. Likewise is *karma* being HERE-NOW! slowly by holding that AWARENESS or CONSCIOUSNESS other thoughts desires habits will drop to create the PATH for total FREEDOM!

See post number 4 by me in this thread; I have tried to define the Kriyamaan, Sanchitta and Prarabdha Karmas.

When u surrender to God, the Sanchitta karmas are forgiven and with Nishkaam way of doing future karmas (meaning surrendering the fruits of the Karmas to the God while doing karmas in accordance with one's own Varnashram Dharma) u do not accumulate any fruits of the Kriyamaan Karmas. Then one is left with the Prarabdha Karmas in which u live your life as it comes thinking that your Prarabdha is the will of the God and accept whatever comes with love as the will of the God.

Total surrender in the above way to God or a God realized Saint makes one Atmaswaroopa.

Friend Zenzero,

Good example, but as a friend, cannot resist but urge you that the above "habits" have to go HERE-NOW. My habits are gone with the grace of my Guru. You also will need to find some way- may be sheer will power or meditation or surrender.

Friend Satsangi,

Friend Zenzero,

Good example, but as a friend, cannot resist but urge you that the above "habits" have to go HERE-NOW.
Just met a teacher from THE ART OF LIVING, yesterday, who does not take non-veg food as as teacher who preaches vegetarianism should himself follow it. On probing he did agree that such desires of taking non-veg food still comes to which he has to fight. Personal understanding is that all desires should drop of on its own accord without any fight and only then will it go away from its roots.
Meaning there is a vast difference between a desire dropping off and resisting it to overcome it.

My habits are gone with the grace of my Guru.
Have no idea as to how long you have indulged in smoking, drinking tea. alchohol and drugs and if it has been as long as 40 years then surely your guru's grace has worked wonders.
You also will need to find some way- may be sheer will power or meditation or surrender.
Being a part of existence which sometimes in a way is the guru too provides all necessary guidance besides surrender and meditation is always an ongoing process and time is timeless and so it is all happening HERE-NOW!

Perhaps to be concerned about karma is itself ongoing karma. :)

Only when the concern about self in relationship to existence no longer arises to disturb Divine union in which there is no separation of actor and action, will karma be transcended.

Friend Zenzero,

I am not talking even karmas or spirituality here; simply your health. I was never a regular drinker of alcohol or tea; although I had a "huge" capacity to tolerate alcohol and remain "sober". I smoked for more than 20 years though. Now, I do not have even a desire for any of these. Just gave up onion and garlic too about 1 and 1/2 years ago and have no desire for that too; in fact I have developed kind of aversion to them. Yes, the grace has worked for me well!!

Friend satsangi,
Thank you for your concern.
Frankly speaking that since childhood was focused only on understanding about life and those habits which destroy health has latched on and now when the understanding and awareness is growing so is the attachments with them.
Meaning that now am fully aware of the actions and its consequences and in that understanding the attachments are slowly losing its grip which am sure will get uprooted on its own accord like darkness recedes wherever light approaches so is ignorance with awareness.

Thanks!

This is explained in GIta very clearly. Thus surrenderence is MUST!

So, after surrendering, the person who is drowning in the river can be saved without any accumulation on your KARMA account and the punya you have done, the fruit for it, will be submitted to GOD. Makes sense.

What about the PAAP, the bad karmas, that you do after total surrenderence?? (knowingly/unknowlingly)?? Does the fruit go to GOD? Confused...

Friends,
Personal experience and understanding is that acceptance of all consequences nullifies all effects of karma as nothing is good or bad, They simply ARE!
Give karma any labels Total Acceptance in itself is Surrender!

Friend Dharma_seeker,

If one has totally surrendered, then one will live in the Dharmas prescribed by the God as these are the orders and will not do any paap (sins).

Friend Zenzero,

Acceptance of Karma is different from surrendering totally to the God's commands. I would rather put it not as acceptance, but considering whatever one goes through- "good or bad" as the will of the God.
