I haven't read anyone else's responses, but here is mine to the Original Poster :
Friend Charzhino,
Your atheist friend is incorrect in my eyes. Karma is a facet of Hinduism that applies to those who are in control of their actions. Also, what s/he is saying is pretty much impossible, therefore it is not much of an argument.
However, if s/he wanted to make an argument, they could state about the mentally insane- who have no control over their actions, for they are pretty much unaware of what is right/wrong and reality/fantasy..
But those who are aware of the right and wrong decisions, and make the good decision, will be rewarded for their good deeds.
The same is done for those who make the unjust/corrupt decision.
As for doing things you can't control, Karma is produced in four ways, and one of them is in your mind - your thoughts! If your mind is "controlled," then you have no evil thoughts at that time. Therefore, Karma is not Produced from your thinking in this example. Also, if you are mentally ill, you may feel your life is threatened at a time where it isn't, which causes the ill person to act on fantasy, rather than reality. I believe that if you don't know what is reality, or if you are being controlled, something will enlighten you to what is right and wrong. You will receive no "Bad Karma," but you will receive a sort of Karma. Because Karma is the aftereffect of our deeds, and you may receive some sort of lesson - though it may not be harsh. It may be a therapist who tells you what you did incorrectly in that situation, or it may be a conclusion you come to before you fall asleep. Either way, you learn a lesson...
Words also create karma, but I won't go into that because speaking negatively/positively doesn't really apply to this.
Also, (this is the basic answer...)
Actions that we perform by ourself is also produces karma, as well as actions performed under our instruction. So therefore, "Bad Karma" IS produced, but not to the mentally-controlled person. It is produced towards the controller.
