It's :: Sri Guruvayurappan Temple :: in New Jersey. It's a southern style (besides the priests I'm the only one who wears a dhoti Vrindavan style), and primarily Vaishnava (obviously if Sri Guruvayurappan is the presiding deity)., but there is an equally large sanctum to Sri Shiva and Sri Ayyappa. Do look at the pictures. It's astounding. It's not even finished yet. It's now considered one of the largest in the US.

Yes, pronunciation is a hassle when it comes to Sanskrit; it is rule #1. I have a hard time getting the tones (anusvarā(h)) correct along with the pitches/accents (udātta, anudātta, and svarita) as it is, and I am a native speaker of an Indic language!

I think the composers of the Rig Veda wanted the Vedic Sanskrit to be non- translatable as much as possible.

Actually, you know what I think? (of course you don't unless you are telepathic)... Vedic Sanskrit was tonal and very musical. Isn't it much easier to remember a song's lyrics when singing them with the melody? Chinese is highly tonal. In fact, I think many human languages were tonal in their early versions. Just my wild nerdy guess.

When we look at the hymns, it seems that Vedic Sanskrit was very musical. And, we also know that they had a colloquial language for everyday speak, but how exactly that language was no one really knows. Linguistic models can only do so much.

Backward reconstruction of languages can go only so far; a lot of it is conjecture based on descendant languages.

I think Surya Deva was either banned or restricted.

I am not anti-Iskcon. I just highly disapprove of their hurling of insults against Lord Shrī Mahādeva Sadā-Shiva, even though I am not a Shaiva.

I haven't been to India (in this life, anyway) but I am learning that the south does have a very rich culture.

People tend to forget South India. The South Indian kingdoms were responsible for spreading Buddhism and Hinduism across Southeast Asia. They have been the unsung heroes in my opinion.

Wherever I go, Surya Deva is either banned or restricted. This happened at HDF and also at yoga forums, I think. And, sadly it has happened here as well. I wonder who he angered this time.

Not really. We do not know what we lost to Muslims. The Martand temple, the Avantipore temples, the sun temples in Multan and Osian in Rajasthan, the temples in UP (Jaunpur) which were torn and mosques constructed in their place, the temples earlier to Qutub Minar. Perhaps North India too was rich in its own way. Ellora, Khajuraho, Konark, Vishnupur temples. South also lost much.

Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Pali, Prakrit, are all colloquial languages. Vedas had their beginning as shaman's chants, had to be musical. Of course, you would not agree.

The Islamic influence was damagingly vibrant by the time these Puranic stories were written. It started with the Upanishads, but expounded around post-700AD due to forceful Islamic intervention.

The pedo-nabi wasn't even born in the 6th century when the bhAgavatapurANam (which has the most detailed description of the lifting of govardhanaparvata) is considered to have been written by Indologists, so how could there be Islamic influence? Also, the viShNuparva of the harivaMsham doesn't have indra bowing before kR^iShNa, it has indra returning to svargaloka (जगाम संवृतो मेघैर्वृत्रहा स्वर्गमुत्तमम&#2381. It's the bhAgavatam which has him bowing before kR^iShNa after his pride was quelled (दृष्टश्रुतानुभावोऽस्य कृष्णस्यामिततेजसः नष्टत्रिलोकेशमद इदम् आह कृताञ्जलि&#2307.

I'm not strawmanning you, I just find it odd that you find the murder of a lion to be very disgusting when much worse massacres of animals take place daily. You're not wrong, it's somewhat disgusting; it's just that I've met some Westerners who consider the consumption and torture of dogs in China to be worse than what happens to pigs and other animals across the world. I'm not saying that the same case with you since you're vegetarian; however,it's not really surprising that lion meat is offered at some restaurants. From a strictly moralistic (not ecological) standpoint, it's no different to serve the meat of a lion than to serve pig meat or chicken meat (as suffering occurs regardless). Nonetheless, the vast majority of restaurants in the west serve some type of non-vegetarian food.

Additionally, we should probably make an end of this for two reasons:
