The principle of the "golden rule" is embodied in so many of Jesus' teachings and in the way he conducted himself. In fact, think about this...the “golden rule” requires us to take the initiative. It is not ‘Do to others as they do to you.’ But ‘You do to others just as you would have them do to you,’ and that is regardless of what they may do to you.

so, it's embodied in many eastern philosophies...

This seems to be a sticking point here. What exactly the point of the question?

faith still can't set you apart
it doesn't make the faithful anymore happier or peaceful or even more moral.
it does give the faithful false belief that they have attained these things
because there isn't anything they can do that i can't.

If they live by the Book it can give a sense of peace and contentment with many situations that would not be attainable without faith. It is not false hope it is simply acceptance.

Yes anyone can do this but without faith in something it is harder.

what's harder, understanding the chaotic world around you?
having been on both sides of the fence, imo people are people and they can do extraordinary things in the name of faith, good and bad.
the placebo affect.

Some people need God. Nuff said.

As I believe it to be.....God is the one who decides if our faith or lack of it has truly benefited us. God is the reader of hearts. He knows more about us than we ourselves.

so, what's you're point? the golden rule didn't originate with abraham...
so what's your point?
there is no mention of christ...

Is Christ mentioned at his new commandment of John 13vs34,35?_______

Good point about Abraham because God made a promise to Abraham that could include us. -Genesis 12v3; 22vs17,18; Rev 22v2; Matt 25vs31,32

Please notice Genesis [18vs23-32] because notice Abraham concludes that God will not destroy the righteous with the wicked. So the principle of the Golden Rule is embodied in that God will not repay righteousness with evil.

i'm so sure it's a need but rather a want
because it doesn't make the faithful anymore happier or peaceful or even more moral.

I don't want to get into a long drawn out thing but some people are so weak minded they need guidance. These people have no real concept of God but find it easier than Science.

As I said previously, God decides. But for those who do not profess a belief in God....I guess we will just have to wait and see how it all turns out. Will God bring to ruin those ruining the earth? Will God allow good-hearted individuals who do their best to abide by God's standards as set out in the Bible, to live forever on a beautiful paradise earth? Will God eliminate the wicked...those who willfully live their lives independent of God? No need to speculate.

ok, so why stick their noses in other peoples business? if that wasn't a nasty trait of theirs then atheists wouldn't be complaining about them...

Well it is true. Not for every Christian but just for some. It is no diffrent than the guy who simply goes into drugs or other things and just cant stop. Religion does offer a safe haven for simple people but again many of these people are taken advantage of by the churches.

Funny thing is they are better off with a good church than not having anyone.

what can you do that i can't?

Again your theme. We know my answer so I assume you want some others to fess up?

According to doctrine on this earth nothing; but after death, according to dogma and some doctrine, you cannot enter into heaven.

this is my discourse with starlite.
if you want to answer that question again that's entirely up to you. ;)

ha ha
sure i can...it's that i may not enter heaven.
i wouldn't be allowed and it's not based on what i can or cannot do while
living in the here and now in our reality.

According to Jesus recorded words at Matthew [7v21] in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, doesn't one have to do, or must do the will of Jesus' Father?

Isn't 'doing God's will' based on what one does while living in the here and now?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Wait a minute - so you're saying the faithful AREN'T happier or more peaceful or possibly even more moral than they were without their faith? How can you know that? Just because YOU weren't, or what?

Also - if a person's faith makes them FEEL happier or FEEL more peaceful or FEEL more in control of their moral decisions - how is that false belief? Happiness and a feeling of peace are FEELINGS - if you FEEL them, they are real FEELINGS.
