How Enlighten Was Buddha

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
No it's not. You don't arise from the dead unless your dead first. You are the enemy of logic and facts.
Im referring to our chemical and biological composition leading to the identification of ones self. Prior to birth you were factually dead. Obviously, you arose from that under the right conditions.

I pretty much stated that at the beginning.

Sort of. I took your position to be that Buddha, who is highly regarded as being enlightened, was a misogynist, and that Buddhists are foolish to regard him so highly.

But the arguments have kind of meandered back and forth between a critique of Gautama and varying Buddhist patriarchal cultures, Buddhists themselves, and the Dharma. It's been hard to follow, tbh.

Since when do the debates on here do not meander? I pretty much am critiquing the Buddha for one being a misogynist. I have other critiques which I believe explains his misogyny.

Invest in a dictionary please then look up the word "dead".

Offer up these other critiques.
That'll get this party started. This has the potential to become super-entertaining and really educational.

They can meander as long as the thread stays relatively on topic. It just makes for a clear debate.

I gave my response to the OP a few pages back if you'd like to read it.

Ok. I believe that Gautama due to his extremely sheltered life and his subsequent exposure to the painful fact of existence was psychologically traumatize and choose to deal with this trauma with repression and denial. He probably developed a form of schizophrenia due to this trauma. He probably develop a hatred for women due to the fact that it is women who bring people into this world of suffering.

That added significantly to the depth of BS on this Forum, which is saying something.

Most of the saviors and prophets people admire were deeply disturbed people. And I am not the first to notice this. Freud blazed the trail, and I kind of get Freud's point.

We just admire the ones who manage to get famous faults and all.

it's true, in more superstitious times mental illness was seen as evidence of having been touched by god: 'touched' even survived into our own time as a euphemism for 'mentally ill'.

If Isaiah or Ezekiel had lived in our time we can be pretty sure they'd be safely locked away in secure institutions.

What clues you in that he was schizophrenic?

To clear up confusion on the First Noble Truth, "suffering" is a really loaded term that was originally used as a translation from "dukkha". Which more precisely into three types of discontent...there is the outer dukkha of pain, illness, and death which is inevitable; the inner dukkha of dissatisfaction with change and impermanence; and there's the subtle dukkha of life not meeting our expectations.

"Suffering" is more broadly applied in varying degrees of the experience of life. It's a common misconception to attribute the term solely to horrific traumatic experiences and the coping mechanisms we apply afterward.

But, you know, if Shakespeare lived in our time, he'd be locked up in such an institution, too.
