How many gods then?!!

There are many different views about God. Perhaps as many as there are thinking beings.

However If God has all the powers we believe he has, there is only need for One God.
One might however suppose there is one God Creator and a host of lesser God's.
These lesser Gods might seem to have the power of a God to us.

However taking the Argument God created Every thing , it would be necessary to believe God created these lesser Gods. This of course is with in his power, but would seem unlikely as they can have no actual authority and no power that could override Gods own wishes.

I would maintain that there is only one God, but that man has rationalised him in many different ways. These rationalisations can not, of course , change the true nature of God.

That we recognise God in so many different ways, must also be acceptable to God, and indeed must be with in his plan, or it would not be so.

It is our own confusion and ignorance that causes us so many problems when thinking about God. It seems We are missing a major piece of the Jigsaw.
I am sure one day God Will reveal the whole truth to us... but it is evident we are not as yet ready to receive it.

Disagree. In hinduism, we have many forms of the supreme. That one supreme has all the power, some idiots in hindusim arrgue whcih deity has it. But the point is that, that supreme force had to incarnate into the world to level the scales of good and bad. There earthly forms have lived on to become worth of worship. They have all the powers of the great god him/herself. Doesent make either null and void. As i said previously, it makes worship easier.

I messed the quote bit up, if any mod could correct this?

Well can't I simply say the same to you? Where is your god?

he can't do anything and can't prevent you from dying either.

so he is no god then just like all the other false gods you put down...

But seriously though, that isn't much of a valid debate if that's all you can come up with, because anyone can come along and say the same to your god allah. No holy book refutes the existence of gods, it is just a book afterall and can't prove anything on its own. That your god would have to do himself. So Islamic tradition believes in one god and they have a prophet and holy book that says so, so what? Certainly this doesn't constitute some kind of Ultimate Truth. It may be Truth to you, and to those who follow your religion, but to others "Truth" will be something different. To every religion or spiritual way of life Truth means something unique and different. It's because we as human beings are all so unique and different.

Firstly,

There is one truth about one thing.. but may be alot of theories.

Secondly,

I beleive that:

30|40|Allah is He Who created you and then sustained you, then causeth you to die, then giveth life to you again. Is there any of your (so-called) partners (of Allah) that doeth aught of that? Praised and exalted be He above what they associate (with Him)!

so, don't say to me: your God can't prevent you from dying.. because i believe that dying is what he want for us.

Ive always preferd intolerance, if they slap you on the left cheek you slap them on both.
Your post somehow reminded me of this
A swift kick to the balls spells your opponents fall.

Firstly,

There is one truth about one thing.. but may be alot of theories.
And what is the evidence which supports your assertion that there is only one god?

I beleive that:
Irrelevant. Belief does not equate to reality

There are many gods because

1) nothing in the universe has absolute power; take our earth for example; when roman empire was at its peak it didnt rule all of europe or asia; at that time we had the chinese empire and the persian empire which were equally powerful. Also lets take a look at USA; although it's the only superpower now but that doesn't make it all powerful and rule the whole world. the nature finds balance and there can not be an all powerful thing that controls everything.

2) nothing is permanent in our universe; not the stars, not the planets, not even the boundary of countries. Same can be said with the gods; no one god is ever powerful enough to stay in heaven all the time; once it used up all his good merits he will become human or animal again, and this is only fair.

3) Why can't you be a God? Why can't I be a God? What made your God; God?

we all have the ability to save people and a heart of compassion and mercy; so why only some "beings" can be God and not you?

I respect your view,
Everyone think that his religion is the best...

We need to search for the truth..

What Truth? Why can't everyone just worship as they wish? No, everyone does not think that his/her religion is the best. YOU might but thats not the case for all of us.

..

Tell me... Where are these Gods? Where are these Gods?

they can't do anything... They can't prevent me from die.

and because of their infirmity.. they are not gods.

We could ask you the same question where is your God? He cant prevent anyone from dieing either. Our Gods are all around us just as you believe that yours is.

yes gods are more powerful than us human beings because in the past lifes they did more good than us so because of the good karma they accumulated they are powerful.

But this doesn't mean they have absolute power over everything; and once their good karma are used up they are just like us.

I mentioned the concept of karma because I know you are a Hindu and can accept this concept of karma.

He it is who fashioneth you in the wombs as pleaseth Him. There is no God save Him, the Almighty, the Wise.

Allah it is who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto an appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

And this means nothing to me they are just words like ours is to you. They are words written by man not God.

Truth is one but is called by many names. :) Truth is different things to different people. Some might see it as one entity. Some might see it manifested in different parts. For e.g. I am one person but to others I am either wife, daughter, friend etc. God is love. Love is manifested in many ways. :)

Umm... No. God is god. He/she has absolute power. God doesent need or have karma. God was there from the beginning, he/she never appeared. Never will die either. Karma only works on humans, and maybe, animals?

someone correct me if i am wrong, but... i thought Hinduism believed in reincarnation based on Karma, and when you have reached a high enough level, your Atman (soul, for want of a better word) joins and becomes one with Brahma, the ultimate, all-powerful creator God.

Samsara is the concept reincarnation, the cycle of birth and re-birth. it does still apply to Hindu belief, only there is a definite end to it, which is God.

Why can't there be 33 million Gods, Three Gods, One and no Gods, simultaneously?

he doesn't seem to be very sure about the fact that if one does enough bad deeds he/she can be turned into a pig/pork :D

I wonder which school of Hinduism he follows
