I am going to signal myself as an enemy to both camps here but I am a Christian and I accept evolution as one of the most if not the most well supported scientific theory that we have, I know us moderates get flak from both ends of the spectrum for marrying the Bible and Evolution but the way I see it is this.
Science does many wonderfull things for us and some not so wonderfull but as an extra bonus I reckon Science helps to reveal scripture, the literal approach to English translation of Genesis a book which is largely written in Hebrew poetry and the block logic of the ancient Hebrews holds little of value imho.
I mean no insult by that, I could ofcourse be wrong in my interpretations of scripture but there in lies the crux, I am of the opinion that there are certain Christians that hold their interpretations of scripture as being more infallible than the book itself.
There are millions of things in the Bible waiting to be discovered imho, nobody currently knows everything there is to know about any portion of scripture as far as I am aware, it is a book which is alive and anything which is alive changes and adapts (could say evolves) to new information,
God gave us the Bible via divine inspiration yes?(to the Christians), God has also put us on a planet with everything we need to, and given us sufficient minds to unlock the very fabric of space and make a multitude of past, present and future discoveries.
Now we are here discussing one of those dicoveries, Evolution does not say God didnt do or create anything, it simply explains why some sea mammals have hooves and some snakes have vestigal legs, and yet some are all up in arms over this theory and it will no doubt get discussed form here until kingdom come, yet nobody gets claws and teeth over the theory of gravity on sites like this or Atomic theory, its always Evolution even though Evolution has nothing to do with creation/beginings.
It strikes me that Evolution only conflicts with peoples theories with regard to scripture but the thing is this, if your theory of scripture conflicts with evolution one of two things is so.
Either evolution the most scrutinised scientific theory in history that is supported by every field of related sciences is wrong and you are right or your interpretation is wrong and evolution is right.
However if you think that your Biblical inetrpretation is beyond reproach and the only way to interpret it and yet it conflicts with Evolution, then the Bible is worthless if you happen to be right so I hope you are wrong.
On the other hand I am perfectly happy to be a Christian and support the Bible as innerrant divine truth, and to accept evolution as fully as I accept gravity, a round earth and God willing in the future a one shot cure for boldness (I reckon the Scientists have 15 years pretty please)
