Nope. Don't think so. You seem to change your opinion more often than I change my shorts.You seem to be confused.
If you defend yourself, your opponent will mistake that for a challenge and become more violent. His ego is hurt, so he becomes more violent. If you do the exact opposite, the opponent will find no reason to persist in his violence. Since there is no challenge to be overcome, the opponent will lose interest and leave.
