"I Heard You Mormons...."

And? I just don't see what's wrong with a harmless addiction, like coffee. To you is it like people putting something before god, like an idol?

Really? I've never really met anyone who didn't like coffee. I couldn't see my life with out coffee, I drink it in the mornings to wake up, and it helps me with staying up for late night studying. Have you ever tried coffee with Coffee Mate? It tastes heavanly then and you might like it. (that is if you haven't tried it allready)
I absolutely hate coffee (and yes, I have tried it) so it's not at all hard for me to stay away from. Neither my son (who was raised LDS but has not been a practicing member of the church for about 13 years) nor my soon-to-be daughter-in-law (who is a devout Catholic) like coffee either.

That's an oxymoron. If something is an addition, you have no control over your need for it. How on earth can you consider a food or beverage controlling you to be "harmless"?

What in the world are you talking about? You know, right about now, I would be tempted to say something about atheists being unintelligent, but since I realize they aren't all unintelligent, I won't make a fool of myself by generalizing.

Wow...I guess Utah's anxiety toward coffee has alot to do with that.

No, not in this case. Because it helps me perform well in school, keeps me alert throughout the day, and tastes good too. Coffee hasn't had any health risks on me and it relaxes me. What's the evil in that?

Now see what I mean about religious people being hateful and mean?

Haha, I think Jesus would be proud.

I'm saying that because Mormons have a storng influence over everything in Utah that has to be a reason why those people you mentioned don't like coffee.

I know you think we're all unintelligent, racist bigots, which makes you the superior intellect. So, use that superior intellect and see if you might come up with a better response as to why Katzpur's inactive Mormon son and Catholic daugther-in-law might not drink coffee.

I don't think you're a rasist bigot, Watchmen. Of all the LDS on the forrum, I think I have the most respect for you.

My future daughter-in-law is not even from Utah. I guess the fact that she is engaged to a young man who was raised in Utah in an LDS family could be the only logical explanation. Now it seems as if Mormonism is contagious. Maybe you would also like to share your insights on why both my son and his fiancee do drink alcohol. How does your convoluted logic explain that?

I'm sorry, ok, jeez. I just thought that Mormons played a major role in the way people treat coffee and alcohol. I retract that statement.

For me, it nets out to a positive. I just like coffee. Its addictive effects are a bit of a cost, I suppose, though I personally find them to be minor: I do tend to get mild "weekend headaches" (i.e. caffiene withdrawal because you aren't drinking coffee as much as you do when you're working Monday to Friday) from time to time. The large part of my coffee habit really is just habit, which can be formed for anything that becomes part of your routine.

By and large, coffee "controls me" in the same way that my desire to watch a favourite TV show "controls me". On a Saturday morning, I'd say my craving for coffee is significantly surpassed by my craving for a jerky egg sandwich. I don't personally think this is reason enough to give up coffee, and it certainly isn't enough for me to give up my jerky eggs. :D
