I kill kittens.

It wasn't necessary. It was a completely gratuitous waste of life. Why the atheist social conscience is unmoved by this I do not know. Weird morality you got there.

It`s called consistency.

I value cats and their lives as equal to the vast majority of other animals lives.

I don`t think we`d even be having this discussion if Revolting had killed a garter snake.
I see little or no difference.

The fact that the vast majority of people upset over the death of a cat wouldn`t even blink over the death of a snake/lizard/toad speaks volumes about how they value animals.

Would you have called the death of a rodent in the same manner a "gratuitous waste of life"?
Unlikely.

I think there's a horrible social injustice amuk among us. We say it's wrong to kill kittens. Why? Because they're cute? What about spiders? Just because we have a natural aversion to spiders, we're arachniphobic, and it's just great to kill them. Is there any logical reason that spiders, most of which are completely harmless, are disgusting and deserve to die, while kittens are cooed at and protected just because they're fuzzy? Well some spiders are fuzzy too! There's absolutely no logical difference between spiders and kittens. Someday the world will come to terms with this, and we can all die in the barn equally.

Kittens are okay to kill because there are snakes and spiders that aren't as cute or cuddly? The Puppy Thrower might have had some similar BS in her own defence. This is a very poor justification of animal cruelty. Since when is being a hick a defence for it?

Pulling the wings off flies or the legs off spiders counts as animal cruelty, BTW. Snakes are also animals.

Animal cruelty is a sign of budding psychopathy. It signals the beginning of a very serious sickness.

Aw man. My post was supposed to be a parody of certain other issues often discussed on RF. Crap.

In honesty, I love kittens. Even if there was an infestation of kittens I wouldn't kill kittens. I would hold them and play with them and let them bite my fingers with their tiny teeth.

I think I could kill a Black Widow Spider if I had to. If I found it in an area with small children, I think I'd have to. They're just too dangerous.

I had an ethical moment last night. I was reaching to the floor to get my laptop and a spider ran out from where my other hand was resting on the futon. I got pretty grossed out because it was one of those big fast ones. My baby boy was on the futon, too, but I killed the spider mostly because I was so grossed out by it.

I normally don't kill spiders or other bugs intentionally, preferring to take them outside, but this time I just killed it pretty much because I wanted to. It was a little regrettable.

If you mean "weird" as in "not common" then yes..thankfully.

So tell me why do you value a strange cat over a spider?
Is there any objective reason to do so?

I prefer cats to spiders. But if a spider isn't bothering me, I would not wantonly kill it.

I prefer cats to spiders.

So by this logic if I prefer spiders to cats it`s then ok for me to kill a cat as you would a spider?

But if a spider isn't bothering me, I would not wantonly kill it.

Revolting didn`t "wantonly" kill kittens, the kittens in question were bothering him and affecting his income.
Irregardless of how he handled the situation (shelter, turned loose, smack with shovel) death was the probable outcome any way you look at it.

So by your rational for the killing of spiders, (considering all things being equal) the same rational exists for the killing of kittens.

Given this truth the only objection to the killing of kittens is based upon personal taste.
Personal taste doesn`t influence my morality and sadly that makes it "weird".
I myself find it very weird that personal taste does influence most peoples morality.

Having, of course, no reflection on the legitimacy of your post--

Would you do me a big favor and just say "regardless" instead of "irregardless"?

Thank you,

Why stop at kittens if you can rationalize anything?

This diseased individual could have just taken them to an animal shelter.
Yes, because the animal shelter charging him to take the animals and then killing them is so much better than just doing the killing himself, right?

Seems to me that you are fine with the animal shelter being paid assassins.
