I kill kittens.

Depends Upon My Mood..
I just cannot make out if Revoltingest actually killed kittens or if this is all hypothetical. I wouldn't be surprised with either being the truth. I think the point Revoltingest is trying to get across is that humans are party to barbarity all the time, whether they realise it or not. Every time you eat beef, you are supporting an industry that tortures animals for their entire lives. The very expansion of the human population has led to the untold deaths of millions of innocent animals. We are a violent species indeed. We merely don't recognise it unless we do it ourselves.

I agree but thats pretty weird considering I just had my 17 year old cat "put to sleep" (and I didnt beat her over the head with a shovel" that she lived in my house under my table and in front of my window for a huge portion of my life and almost all of hers)..While I ate beef and chicken..

So I support the torture of animals while I love them with all my heart..

Its a Yo YO deal..

Go figure..

It is far easier to do things emotionally and to justify it after the fact than the reverse. That is how basic psychology of advertisement and sales works. It's hard wired into us all.

Honestly, if someone felt killing was easier without much repercussions -- let's face it, zero repercussions in killing cats, as OP described in his situation -- then the choice is easily made and easily justified after the fact -- wouldn't have survived anyways, more humane, quick death, etc.

This hypothetical is a microcosm of the banality of evil that Arendt theorized.

You misunderstand. I decided (or "justified" as you dismiss it) what to do before I did it. At the time, a trip to the pound woud've also meant certain death.
Some people believe that if they let some recognized authority (eg, Humane Society) do the deed, then they bear no responsibility. Be it by shovel or by
driving them to a government sanctioned executioner, the effect is the same. I didn't foist my responsibility upon another. Real evil to me is when
people make death some thing which they can cause to happen by someone else's hand, quietly & out of sight, lest their sensitive nature have to face the
ugly reality ending a life. I recall a former worker who was very pro-vengeance-by-war, having never been in a war & knowing that someone else would go
& create the gore for him. Mind you all, I accuse no one here of such hypocrisy, but this guy fit my idea of evil - blood lust by proxy.

This hypothetical is a microcosm of the banality of evil that Arendt theorized.
Same to you, bub. A reference to an obscure political theorist doesn't give your namby pamby avoidance of responsibility any real credence.
Although....I'd bet that she would find the systematic, acceptable & ordinary quality Humane Society executions under the euphemism "putting
to sleep" or "euthanizing" to be banal evil. Have you actually read her work, Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil?

A shovel (hypothetically speaking) was quick, painless & environmentally friendly.
How is this worse than a lethal injection, during which the kitten would suffer being given the shot.
I say my solution is more humane.

You've rationalized what you did, and well. You might be a sociopath.

He's no sociopath, only a pragmatist. Too many people judge others by applying their own failed values to every action. My moral code says if you accuse others of neurological disorders on-line, you might be a nun-beater.

PS Ontario stinks! I lived in Barrie for years, and can assure you, it has an actual bad smell. Like rotten leaves and failed socialism.

Yes, but we've a glut of kittens, & the end result would've been the same....except that more money &
fuel would've been spent. If I could've found'm a new home, I'd have taken that step.

I wonder how many of us grew up on/around farms, & how that colors our perception of killing animals?

If you had taken them to local pound, you would not have been able to bash their brains out with a shovel. So of course you did not take them.

One question: Did the kittens know they were in the Shovel Club?

You're confused....the coup de grace is only the method, not the goal.

Even non-members may receive the service.

This is awful. Did you do the wrong thing? 100% yes
Greetings, & welcome aboard!

What is wrong with you???????
I could ask you the same question.
If you came here just to carp at me, then there'll be no discussion. Addressing the issues would be more fruitful.

No judgements passed on you personally but I couldn't kill kittehs.

I'd do something really stupid like put them all in a box and take them home with me...frantically calling PETA, the SPCA and anyone else who might be able to teach me how to care for them. I can see myself now, on the internet googling "keep kittehs alive".

Edit: If this was a farm, they could be raised as little mousers.

Who started this thread, Revoltingest?
You did.
Who made the anncouncement of "I kill kittens"?
You did.

What do you expect people to say about what you did so gleefully, I don't know. Were you expecting a round of congratulations and cyber-hugs? How did you expect people to respond?

Expect to carped on when you kill kittens, buddy boy.

People who kill small helpless animals don't deserve to handled so delicately. It's alright to be angry about this. If it's alright to be angry about gay kids bullied into suicide, it's alright to be angry about kitten-killing.

Since the poster is a newbie to the forum, I thought it useful to point out the consequences of such posts.

Being angry is fine...I do it regularly.
But we may still be civil & thoughtful, without a histrionic comparison to bullying children to death.

Congrats! You made my Ignore List.

Things have been too quiet here lately, so it's time to ruffle some feathers....or raise some fur.
Hypothetically....suppose I once found a family of very young kittens living in a car (an open convertible) stored in my barn. Certainly, I wouldn't let my customer
have his car soiled by their living arrangements, so I presume I must remove them. They wouldn't survive in the wild, even with mom's help so I thought I should
do something. My solution (which is legal where I live): I'd take a large shovel & quickly euthanized (executed? murdered? killed?) each one. (And yes, for those
who want the gory details, their little intestines would squirted out & get me.) I wouldn't want to take them to the Humane Society, since they'd want money from
me just to do the same thing, but more expensively....& they'd whine for donations.
So....was this hypothetical solution:
1) Right
2) Wrong
3) Neither, but you'd do the same
4) Neither, but you'd do differently

Btw, I didn't enjoy it, but I don't feel bad about it either, since my plan was to minimize suffering.

Note: Edited for legal reasons.

I'm going to be a prick and respond without reading beyond the OP.

The Humane Society would request money?

I know where I live there are multiple options to deliver abandoned, feral cats, dogs, etc. without charge. That includes my local humane society as well as the SPCA. That and I have a grandmother who takes in kitties!

I really don't care.

More interesting is you've made Midnight Pete's ignore list!
