I myself am a chic, party-hopping, Manhattan millionaire for, although I do not actually possess a million dollars, nor live in Manhattan, nor indulge in party-hopping, nor am at all chic, I find describing myself as such is a great way to pick up the babes.

Describing yourself as a Jew might be motivated by a burning desire to feel you've got an in with God, but I doubt it's much motivated by a burning desire to embrace Judaism or Jewish culture. Kind of like my desire to get in good with the babes but not go to the trouble of actually becoming a chic, party-hopping, Manhattan millionaire.

If according to Scripture, you accept that the Jews are chosen to be eternally superior to all other people, it's not surprising you would want to identify with, or even become, a Jew (jealousy/envy/fear happen everywhere)- until you've understood a fuller picture of history, and can identify current and future reality.

Jews hardly proselytize, in relation to Christianity and Islam (though the "damage" had already caused Christianity and Islam). But, the Scriptures place Israel as the future hub of the World, in many seemingly "miraculous" ways. It's at least partly true.

I've heard some angry opinions from Jews about allowing converts to Christianity to remain Jewish. But I've also known many people who claimed to be both atheist and Jewish, with religious Jews seeming to have no objections to that.

I've also heard that the mother-only business is now in contention, with one of the major branches (Reform?) now trying to allow patrilineal Jewishness.

I consider the whole thing a mess, almost as bad as trying to define who is an atheist and who isn't.

But all categories are messy unless there's some kind of official license for membership.

It's a bit of a reach to pronounce, יהוה, Jehovah. The yod י carries the 'Je', but there is no 'Ho' because without an O the 'hay' ה is silent.

Aside from your esoteric departure into the New Testment's claim that there is such a thing as a "symbolic Jew", I find your linguistic references lacking in an understanding of the Hebrew language.

God's name, as you spelled above, is pronounced "y'hovah" or "y'howah", YHVH or YHWH depending on your dialect. (I was originally tought the former.) You claimed there is no "ho" but forgot to take into account that the third letter is a long "o" (the vav).

In your second deconstruction, you fail to recognize that "y'hudim" is a plural, and that "dim" is the indicator of plural vs singular. It's not appropriate to think of it as a separate word. "Y'hudim" is the plural of "Y'hudah", the mem being the only operative letter. Translated literally, it refers simply to descendants or residents of Judah (or Judea).

I agree with you. When I said that in the Judaism DIR, I was nearly drummed out. But I believe it is true.

Further, I will say that she/he does not even have to convince me, they have to convince themselves, that is my litmus test.

Unique to them? What kind of standard is that? Was that standard suggested to you by a domestic animal before or after it was run over by a truck?

Do you know of any large group of millions of people who have made an entirely "unique to them" contribution to the world -- as a group. Sure, individuals make unique contributions -- look at Einstein -- but large groups, as a rule, don't.

So maybe the way a domestic animal in full possession of its senses would approach this is to ask "What have Jews contributed to the world", rather than "What have they uniquely contributed to the world?"

But don't take my word for it. Think it through for yourself.
