If "everything is energy" then what does this mean?

Then your statement is false, since you do not know me, personally. That 'inference', is from your statement, not mine.

Meh. Abuse me all you like, but please don't BORE me.

You have nothing to say, and I think syncretism is woolly crap. Stuff which sheep excrete.

The universe excretes woolly new-age crap....also the affectation of.....no punctuation...blah blah...non-duality...crap...blah

Be gone, you putrid perversion of "nob-duality"!

Be gone and splurge your nonsense on a gullible new-age congregation who will put up with your BS.

It is about time this thread got back on topic.....posts should be related to science and religion in the context of universal energy... Endless tag team comments that are not a serious are neither funny nor informative.....

I am sorry that you suffer from such bile and bitterness against your non--atheist fellow man, my friend Norman... May your heart and mind be opened to the glory of existence...and experience true peace...

Personally, I'd say that is a distortion of the OP originally outlined by @LegionOnomaMoi - not that that matters...

I've often heard people say that in some sense or another "everything" (whatever that is) is "energy". This confuses me, to put it bluntly. I often work with "energy" as it is "defined" (exists? described?) in modern physics, and this has not helped me understand the assertion that everything is energy. So if any members believe this and would be willing to describe what this belief means (or if any members are more knowledgeable about what this means than I) I would be grateful for an explanation as to what "everything is energy" means (e.g., what is the nature of this "energy"? why ought we to believe that everything is indeed a form of or made out of this "energy"? etc.). Thanks!

I'm pretty sure he has not been terribly impressed with the level of discussion put forward by several posters, but only he can say for sure. Those arguments, due to dodgy sources, are fairly far from compelling, nor are they particularly informative. Rather than an intelligent discussion, certain posters have turned this thread into their own little sandbox and and woe to anyone who dares to question the veracity of their pronouncements. This is not and has not been a discussion for quite some time. It's a lecture proclaiming a humorless narrative that seems quite inexhaustible.

That said, due to unsurprising results of my little puzzle. I guess I should spill the beans... not that those who need to understand it will actually understand what I am saying. I would ask those who didn't have a satisfactory answer to go back and read over their ludicrous comments in light of the simple answer I was expecting. Heck, I certainly gave enough clues. The hilarity is that I've already GIVEN the answer in several circuitous ways, as has @Runewolf1973 whose answer, and subsequent followup via PM, was almost spot on. Take a bow, Runewolf.

My fist post was directed to Ben D:
To be fair, Ben D, that isn't accurate. It is not a question of admitting to anything. I've looked directly into the eyes of my god. What I saw there forever changed me. You might contemplate on what I saw. The reality is, the individual must go beyond god to understand god. Coming from the Vaishnava school of thought, Brahman was small potatoes in a much larger picture. Reality is so much more interesting when you remove the absolute from the equation, as then, you are simply left with reality.

I then clarified this with a reply to his confusion over what I meant.
I was into ISKCON at the time and Krsna was el supremo. Brahman was simply never mentioned. I do recognize that other Vaishnava schools of thought see things quite differently, LOL. The small potatoes reference wasn't really accurate, it was more the case of simply being glossed over, actually much in the same way that some who see Jesus Christ as god incarnate, really, in that Jesus/Krsna eclipse the concept of the impersonal god.

To really fry your brain, it was this oddball vision of Hinduism that was the core of my own ideas that began to emerge quite awhile after this period and long after I'd left the Hare Krsna's far behind.

That didn't seem to help out matters much, LOL. So, I attempted a further clarification.

To put this into acceptable terms for some, you could say that I simply had a far better imagination than most, and due to my affinity/predilection for obscure altered states of consciousness, dove-tailed with a youthful exuberance, I was able to create an experience that was utterly amazing.

At the time, I did definitely believe, with all my heart and that innocent youthful joy propelled me further than my wildest dreams. My return to my atheistic root was not instantaneous and it took some time for my conscious mind to "catch up" to that timeless experience, several years, in fact.

Finally, I hit with this:
Someone with extensive knowledge of altered states of consciousness should be able to figure out my riddle. I have given a couple of big clues. Again, if people know anything about altered states of consciousness, above the superficial neophyte "levels", this should be a no-brainer. Meditate on what I saw in those HUGE EYES!
I've actually talked about this whole thing at least once before on RF and remember that one fellow got the answer right off the bat. I guess that's why I felt the answer to this was so incredibly easy this time around. Then again, he was an atheist, so maybe that is a another clue for some.

So, what did I see in those massive eyes you ask? I saw myself, looking back at me, reflected in those massive dark eyes.

It was at that moment that the whole experience/image wobbled.

I don't quite know how else to put it. The only way I can describe the next part is if you held up two large mirrors and positioned them so that they were facing each other, infinity reflecting into each other. If you have never had such an experience, I can assure you that it is a genuine show-stopper.

In that timeless moment I became aware of everything I had ever been (reincarnationally speaking, that is). A hundred billion lifetimes, all vibrating, in excitation, at this incredible realization, fanning out, literally in all directions. From here, I found myself back, seating uncomfortably in the full lotus position. It had been six hours and my legs were screaming and I had to take a pee, LOL. It did make me giggle that after such a profound even that the only thing I could think of was racing to the bathroom. Ahhhhhhh. It is so strange how clearly I can remember so much detail all these years later. Another odd detail was that my bedroom was quite cool as it was still winter outside, but I was hot like I'd just come in from the sun on a summer day.

As I said earlier, the atheist aspect didn't hit till much later. It was a rather large amount of raw information to process and I think even the most doubting skeptics would likely agree on that note. Plus, it's not like I could just pick up a book and read about how others have handled such an event, LOL. It's very strange when you are outside the covers of mythology.

I will thank @ben d and @godnotgod for "setting me straight" about the proper ordering of the Hindu pantheon, for what it was worth. The reality is that there are many schools of thought and in the Hare Krsna school of thought, Krsna is king and everything else is below him. Period. Full Stop.

Again, I fully understand that MANY other Hindu schools of thought think quite differently. None of that matters. I don't care what they think. It's not the way I understood it and since it was my vision of Vishnu, my beliefs about the ordering of events are the only ones that matter.

Here, I don't even mean my understanding is "correct". What I am trying to tell you is that this is the way I understood it. What others had to say didn't affect my experience in the slightest and given how far I was able to take my understanding makes me hesitate in taking alternate understandings for a test drive. Why bother?

This was a very enhanced experience of Oneness. Oneness, when dovetailed with ideas of deity can have troubling implications. I was not happy with those implications. If there is only One, who are you? The uncomfortable thought was that I was, obviously, an incarnation of god. That didn't sit well with me and it took awhile, but I finally found a solution. The problem wasn't with me, I reasoned; the problem was with our child's ideas about deity. Remove that deity and all you have left is BEING. Satisfied that I had finally found a solution that would forever keep my hat size down I began to embark on a sparkling new vision of personality and self. I've been working on building that map for other travelers for a few decades now and am more than pleased with the meager results I've manage to stumble across.

Although I felt it was a huge intrusion when I was going through it, my day job actually helped me through this period. It helped me to connect with people and to stay grounded.

Oh well, rip this to pieces. I'm sure I've got everything wrong and that some will feel a need to correct my errant thinking.

All the banter aside....I honestly do not know what you are spilling the beans about? You said you looked into Vishnu's eye....and that made you become an atheist, it does not become much sillier than that....
