I presume you are talking about imperfect human religious institutions....religion itself involves the reuniting with the source of our being...the cosmos....inside of or outside of main stream religious institutions. Even so, there is much wisdom in all the major religious teachings...which teachings continue to lead many to the light..
So here is a question...you have seen Vishnu and explained it was not physical vision, but with the mind's eye....did Vishnu's mind simultaneously behold you? And why do you think seeing Vishnu has nothing to do with religion?

But even that is still considered to be a religion. The Bible calls the fire it will catch all-consuming. It is amazing that hell is fun for something. When whoever winds up there goes there some say God will be mocking. Can you even imagine? The universe is not one but everything inside it, however God counts it all, that there is to be cosmic cooperation with him not the other way around. Humanism keeps them all pegged to those exact same ground rules. There is only a single universe to be found? Well all they talk about...

Sure, new-agers have their own religion, which is a blend of woo from various places, mixed up with pseudo-science, psycho-babble and jargony word-salad deepity. They will surely go to hell, which consists of the charlatan Deepak Chopra rambling on for eternity about quarks and stuff. Quarks are like tiny ducks, by the way.

You used the term union.....which is what the concept 'religion' Latin roots are meant to convey....reconnect...reunite...as does the Sanskrit concept 'Yoga'.....which means....union....which practice is meant to unite the aspirant and the source of existence.. Proper religious practice of all authentic religions us meant to bring about a state of union....non-duality..
