They have that covered. Apparently it's okay for married couples to have sex whenever they want regardless of likelihood of pregnancy. They're "upholding the spirit of marriage".

Another indication that they are just making up "spirits" on a whim...

Ah, so nothing for them other than intercourse...
And I bet they even have "regulations" concerning alleged non-sinful positions and even who has to be on top....

They don't talk about positions. They really haven't since the Middle Ages. As for oral, manual and anal, there's different opinions. It seems that as long as the semen ends up in the vagina, it's fine to do.

I think you can measure how sinful something is by asking how badly do most people not want to get caught in the act. I think most people would want to not get caught masturbating. It's instinctively a sin. An interesting next question would be "Why?".

maybe because you have reduced fertility for a day or two?

I don't want to be "caught in the act" of sitting on the toilet doing my business.

Is going to the bathroom, therefore, a sin?

So oral is all spit and no swallow?

I guess you're not supposed to do it to ejaculation. It's just supposed to be foreplay (in the most boring heterosexual sense of the term).

Anyway, that's just what I've read about it. I have no idea if anyone actually strictly follows those ideas, even if they are conservative Catholics. Obviously, most Catholics are ignoring the teachings in the Catechism on sex.

i feel like you guys made me more confused than before, where is the bottom line? is it safe to say it is a sin or not?

Depends on your faith -- which is where you probably want to go if you are worried about committing a 'sin'. Masterbation isn't a sin -- it's healthy.

you guys point out some excellent examples, even though you say masturbation isn't a sin it is actually good for the body, sex is also good for you but it is considered adultery and it is a sin (unmarried people i mean), see where i'm getting at? so then is masturbation considered bad from God's perspective?

All God would have had to do to prevent masturbation is give us shorter arms. The fact that She gave us arms that reach EXACTLY to our genitals is Her most precious gift to us, and it would be sinful to reject it.

They also reach to our butt. Praise Her.

Reminds me of the banana argument.

"The banana and hand are perfectly made for each other"
The banana being a close replica of . . . of . . . well you know where I'm going with this. ;)

Don't get me started about the shape she chose for cucumbers. :D

Not what I meant. I believe you have misunderstood my words. Wasting time is a sin. Not all of those things you mention are a waste of time and some of them would have to be judged by you yourself, being a matter between you and God. If you think something is a waste of time then for you it is sin. If you think masturbation is productive and beneficial, then perhaps you should do it.

so your saying that wasting time on something is a matter of judgement, so sin, is a sin, based on what we believe it is? so there is no objective way to determine what a sin is then your saying?
