One of my mom's friends is trying to get us some money. We'll see how that goes.

Avi, I plan to apply for disability Wednesday. I'm not psychologically able to work. I can barely perform basic activities.

Frank, man, it's all about attitude, and your view of life.

Lets hope the lady shows up with the money for you and your Mom....but if not, you have to keep fighting the good fight. Volunteer at your Walmart's, haul trash at the McDonalds. Get out there and do it man ! Once they see how smart you are, they will hire you.

Btw, it's great you are not thinking about suicide today. Look how much progress you have made the last couple of months. Keep moving forward !

I am an entreprenuer. I always help people to succeed...but you're the one that has to do it !

You can do it, dude...don't give up on yourself !!

I have to drop in and say that it's NOT just about attitude. If you have depression or anxiety, or any other mental illness, it's called illness for a reason. You can't just snap out of depression any less than you can snap out of having a broken leg. Yes, psychological illnesses are partly related to your thinking, but they are not one and the same thing. Please do not come with advice like these if you have no understanding of how mental illness works, it's degrading and does not help the person in question in any way.

Frank, that is great news, and I am really happy for you and your Mom and pets !!!!

But I will make one last point on this thread, because I think it is really important.

It is all about attitude and your view of life.

Stephan Hawking has ALS and he is 1,000 times sicker than anyone in this forum...but he continues to make groundbreaking discoveries about the universe everyday of his life. He has an amazing attitude.

We all have limitations. Life is about overcoming.

Thank you, and I appreciate the sentiment. But ALS is not a psychological illness such as severe depression and anxiety is. A person can have a physical illness but be perfectly fine, psychologically, just as a person can be perfectly fine physically but severely mentally ill and not able to function because of it.

Do you not think he had terrible moments of depression and anxiety as he realized that while he was still young he was going to live the rest of his life, which he told was going to be short, in a wheelchair? My 20's have been marred with depression and anxiety that has resembled heart attacks and one anxiety attack that felt like a stroke because of the difficulties I have with my knee, which left me being unable to do things that most people in their 20's can do, such as spending a day at the beach with friends and swimming. And although things have been on a consistent downward spiral for me over the past several years, I am sitting today with things improving for me. I know a girl with bi-polar disorder, and her mood swings are prone to hyper cycling to the point she can be a manic whirlwind one minute and a completely broken down tear-soaked depressive the next, and she has consistently held a job since she started working at 19 (she'll be 24 in a couple months). I also know a few people who have varying levels of mental handicappedness who found jobs on their own and have held them. My niece works at McDonalds, and although she is treated so poorly she has come home in tears a number of times, she still keeps going.
Any half-way decent therapist is going to tell you that your attitude and how you approach things is everything.

I'm not saying that Hawking has never struggled with depression. I don't know. I'm just saying that it's not particularly helpful to those with mental illnesses to chalk it up to attitude. It's based on a misunderstanding of mental illness and comes off as shaming. Trust me, if it was as easy as changing attitude, we would've already done it. People handle it differently and are in different situations. Some people are able to push through it and function in society and others aren't. It has to be handled individually.

Somebody is paying it for us. I don't think we're going to be kicked out because they have the proof that money is coming that they wanted. So it's okay now. It came at the last minute last night. But thank God that last minute is better than never in this case.

Great news, Saint.
Question....what is your mental disability called?

I'm glad you worded it this way, because it's how I feel. I think I can speak for several others in saying we've been rooting for SF, even though we haven't been able to offer anything more than hope.

Thanks, guys. That does mean a lot to me. Bless you both.

I have severe depression and anxiety. I'm a recluse and don't really leave the apartment.

Frank, go to Walmart today and tell them you want to volunteer. You can move boxes. Then go to other companies on nights and weekends to look for a better job. Let us know how it goes.

I can't continue this discussion now, I have to go to work. :)
