It didn't stop Nixon. Of course, he did get impeached......

Oh, there have been plenty of Presidents (and Prime Ministers here in Oz), with some less than commendable traits.
Maybe all of them. That might be an interesting thread, actually. Name the world leader without clear characters flaws.

I don't know what else he'd have to say or do to prove he is, if his supporters don't think so. He isn't all that subtle.

I think not consciously racist. I mean I don't think his intent is to be racist. It's hard to remove, guard against or even be fully aware of any subconscious bias.

Being racist or prejudice is not always a conscious thing. I don't see Trump being introspective enough to be aware of his prejudices.
So is it just part of institutional racism?

So is it just part of institutional racism?

There are laws against institutional racism so that would be a matter for the courts, not a debate.

Like when Trump tried to ban some countries the courts stepped in.

Being a racist is not against the law.

I think it depends on what you mean by racism.

If you take the worthless "power + privilege" view, yes. And far too many people.
If you say it would be racist to have subconscious incorrect racially stereotypical views, he probably has those. That kind of implicit bias is everywhere.

My definition of racism is personal animus towards and/or feelings of existential superiority over another race. I don't believe he meets that standard.

He isn’t a racist. There is no burden of proof for the negative case. Those that think he is racist have the burden of proof of the assertion.

Possibly not a commendable trait in someone representing an entire country.
Trump'a decisions represents the people who elected him. He doesn't represent an open border, but a controlled access border, So how can he represent those who want an open border?

Though his decisions affects the country as a whole, he represents the ideals that got him elected.

Most Americans say Trump is racist, poll finds

Nearly half of white Americans think Trump is racist

Opinion | Donald Trump’s Racism: The Definitive List

"Trump’s real-estate company tried to avoid renting apartments to African-Americans in the 1970s and gave preferential treatment to whites, according to the federal government."

"Trump treated black employees at his casinos differently from whites, according to multiple sources. A former hotel executive said Trump criticized a black accountant: “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. … I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks.”

"In 1989, Trump took out ads in New York newspapers urging the death penalty for five black and Latino teenagers accused of raping a white woman in Central Park; he argued they were guilty as late as October 2016, more than 10 years after DNA evidence had exonerated them."

"In 1989, on NBC, Trump said: “I think sometimes a black may think they don’t have an advantage or this and that. I’ve said on one occasion, even about myself, if I were starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I really believe they do have an actual advantage.”

"He began his 2016 presidential campaign with a speech disparaging Mexican immigrants as criminals and “rapists.”

"In December 2015, Trump called for a “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” including refusing to readmit Muslim-American citizens who were outside of the country at the time."

"Trump said a federal judge hearing a case about Trump University was biased because of the judge’s Mexican heritage."

"He spent years suggesting that the nation’s first black president was born not in the United States but in Kenya, a lie that Trump still has not acknowledged as such."

"He called Puerto Ricans who criticized his administration’s response to Hurricane Maria “politically motivated ingrates.”

"He called some of those who marched alongside white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va., last August “very fine people.”

"Trump hired Steve Bannon as his campaign head and later White House chief strategist. Under Bannon’s leadership, the website Breitbart madewhite nationalism a central theme. It featured a section, for example, on “black crime.”

There is too much proof..
