Is prostitution "immoral"?

I've missed most of this debate but will try and skim though the pages in time.

My view is that prostitution is ok as a last ditch method of getting money together but hardly anything one should want to do out of choice.

It depends on the alternatives I guess.

You stopped responding to mine a long time ago. What, my questions too difficult for you answer? Can't reason out a coherent response and run out of insulting judgements to throw my way?

Well maybe if you were to ask a reasonable question...

Let me tell something about hypothetical questions some of like asking. I tend to avoid answering most of them for the sole reason that they are hypothetical and far removed from reality.

So asking me if I think that if somehow in some alternative reality that doesn't to exist this imaginary situation where somehow occur what would be my opinion of said imaginary situation?

Well, you will not get you from me a proper answer nor an opinion because I refuse to deal with unreality and unreal sitituations.

So if you have a question grounded in reality I will be more than glad to answer it.

I hope I have made myself clear.

a lot of focus is on the woman, but i think its important to focus on the men who pay for sexual services. I think its highly immoral for a man to do such a thing. To buy a woman for sexual pleasure is the same as purchasing slavery. He is buying the right to abuse & use her body...thats disgusting and very immoral.

In principle, prostitution is almost as bad as hiring someone to rake your yard.

Thank you Pegg. It is a form of slavery and it's dehumanizing.

Is prostitution "immoral" to you, and why or why not?

To me, it's not. As long as the person doing so has made the choice to do so fully aware of what they are doing and is taking proper precautions against spreading disease, then I don't really see an issue with it. Now, pimping and coerced/forced prostitution is an entirely different thing to me and I do find those wrong. Prostitution itself though, no...I don't believe it to be "immoral".

And yes...I put "immoral" in quotes as I find morality to be highly subjective.

prostitution is moral.

How is it any different than the man paying the woman's father for her hand in marriage?

what has marriage got to do with prostitution?

please tell me how the two are related.
When the man pays the woman's father for her hand in marriage is he not "buying the right to abuse & use her body" which you flat out claim is "disgusting and very immoral"?

Ah, but when the purchase is Biblically-based for the right to a woman's body, it doesn't count.

Because, you know, within a Biblically-sound marriage, a husband is mandated with the right to decide what should happen to his property, er, wife.....or something like that.

But because it's marriage, it isn't immoral at all! :p
