Is this *finally* the moment we wake up to the climate crisis?

Never heard Max Planck said that. Interesting!
He said it about science, not about popular opinion but the gist is there.

Getting back on topic ...

The question was if new evidence could change the denialists minds. I think we have seen that, and how, it doesn't. It gets completely ignored in their argumentation.

"I already have an opinion, don't try to confuse me with facts!"

Scientists are trained not to attach themselves to their hypothesis. But given how often one fails at that, we shouldn't be surprised when non-scientists hold to once formed opinions.

I think big trucks are dumb, but I also think big trucks have little to do with climate change, comparatively speaking.

They are a sign that people don't care - and given how prevalent they are, they produce a few tons of CO2 unnecessarily.

Sure. And there’s all the regular soaked cars out there. Some people have two or three. There’s factories. And deforestation. And factory farming. And earth axis tilt. And sun changes. And volcanic eruptions. And so on. In the grand scheme of things, I wonder how much removing glamor trucks would impact global warming.

Is this *finally* the moment we wake up to the climate crisis? - CNNPolitics

(CNN)Record flooding in Philadelphia and New York City. Tornadoes in New Jersey. Fires burning through California and Nevada.

I think the 'wake-up' call for climate change in some US States is going to hinge upon what Fox News reports about it all. And I don't expect Fox News to U-turn on its ideas too soon.

Am I right in thinking that many anti-vaxxers are climate change denialists? Strange.

No. No they wont wake up as you put it.

It's not bad enough yet.

Wait a little longer.
I think it will be difficult to pass the 3.5 trillion package with only most of one party supporting it that does most of the heavy lifting for climate change. It looks to big for many but it is needed.

It also doesn't just depend on the US, but all the world must pitch in together. We are one world, it is necessary to see that. We are not there yet. Also we need to look long term, the election cycle tends against that, the politicians can only see the short term of their next election.

There are carbon emitters that lobby and give money to influence the politicians, it is a form of legal corruption. Also the internet algorithms cause the most controversial to come to the surface.

It will definitely get worse.

1.5 degrees is a guaranteed outcome at this point.
Yes, agreed.
Most of the people who will acknowledge there is a climate crisis already know, and most of the deniers will deny it no matter what happens. We're at that stage of the paradigm shift where we're waiting for the hold outs to die in sufficient numbers they lose their control on policy, and enough of the young people aware of the facts to grow up enough to take over.
It is a little pessimistic that all deniers will always stay that way, in my opinion. But then, I would have never predicted that so may after this time would believe the election was stolen.

Some people are awake, but as others have mentioned, they don't want to change their lifestyle or their habits - or their politics, for that matter.
Yes, changing our lifestyle is key, we are consuming too much of the resources of the earth. The very rich need to take down to a more reasonable level so the rest of the people of world can live and not be very poor. Like $1.00 a day or under for some.

No! Its the moment we refresh the realization that hysterical fear is exploited using weather events that have been occurring since the beginning of time! Unsuspecting young people may not realize that hurricanes are a common occurrence. Tropical low pressure systems come out of Africa and make their way over to the Americas. They very in size and intensity.

Did you read the above at all??

I see the human as a moth fluttering with flames.

It can't help it and it's instinct won't ever allow it to deviate its path.

That's how I see the situation in regards to management of our environment and yes it will most certainly get worse as we increase in technology and waste.

It's ironic because I still support fossil fuel until another technology can replace it on equal or better terms, but I don't see any way that can ever stop this runaway train in a collective context. All that can be hoped for is a delay on what inevitable and our fate at the end.

I really think we already are past the point of no return as a parasitic species, we are essentially a swarm of locusts on this planet now imv.

Consuming until everything is gone and only then will we die out in enough numbers to maybe stabilize the ecosystem.

Some very smart and influential people have that or similar view as well I noticed.

Probably in many cases they are the same people. There is an anti-science current that has been circulating increasing in the right wingers, partly they are harvesting the evangelical Christians who have a history of believing in the literal meaning of their scriptures over science. There is a long split between science and religion that goes back to Galileo and onward.

It's that kind of thinking that paralyzes any action. It's hopeless, so we do nothing. That's a new strategy for those who don't want us to do anything.

Exactly........
And how crazy is that?

It will take more than Fires, Floods, Freezes and Hurricanes to turn that kind of mind, I'm afraid. We'll just have to do our best regardless of such nutcases.

Let's just say the prognosis dosent look well.

We are far too hardwired through evolution, so it is a hopeless cause.

However as with locusts, it may not wipe out everyone but it's going to be a spectacular number that will be gone in the far future.

The only good thing is that it's not likely to happen in one's lifetime right at this moment but eventually one generation is going to experience a mass culling of the population.

Nature has a way of seeing to that.
