Israel Fires on Humanitarian Aid Flotilla

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Yes, they are chanting songs of martyrdom. But what of it? Don't the religious chant about the second coming of Christ and everyone being slaughtered? I find it mind bending that one's own religion makes sense to oneself, but any other religion is either always violent or wrong.

Further, according to your link, the people who were being interviewed simply said "God willing, we will reach gaza or martyrdom". I do not understand how this can be construed as terrorism.

You mean to tell me that you can't see that this entire flotilla extravaganza was meant to be a provocation and a political, rather than a peaceful humanitarian, mission?

And as a Christian, I've never once engaged in chanting about everyone being slaughtered. Nor have I ever witnessed such an event. But hey, that's just me.

Even if, and that is a stretch, it was meant as provocation, Israel does not have the right to attack the ship on international waters. It is piracy and I do not understand why people are backing Israel. It is a black and white case. You have the right to free speech. It is a basic human right. If Israel doesn't like it, tough luck. But this does not mean they attack the ship. In some cases, it could be construed as an act of war against the Turks since the ship is Turkish soil on international waters.

So now you're calling the flotilla an exercize in free speech?

Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, to the ride where the spin never ends!

Alright, you obviously seem to think that the Israeli government was justified in their actions. So give me a justification for a government to attack a ship on international waters and kill 9 civilians.

I have already stated that the Israeli response was probably not the wisest route to take.

And hindsight is always 20/20.

My response is to the whitewashing of the political activists who intentionally provoked the Israeli government. The flotilla was not manned with peace loving people singing Kumbaya. It was manned with political activists determined to orchestrate an international brouhaha.

I'm not quite sure that many of them planned on getting killed in the process, but apparently many of them were emotionally prepared for that possibility, since they were chanting "Gaza or martyrdom!" and "Jews, prepare for the army of Muhammad!" as they left the Turkish port.

Eh? I never argued that the motives of the people on board were pure. You seem intent on making sure that people are not whitewashing the activists while saying :
I mean - damn. DON'T MESS WITH ISRAEL. They're serious. They don't play around. If you threaten them, they are going to kick your ***, or die trying.

And I don't blame them.
That seems like white washing to me.

As for me, I am just saying that the Israeli response was wrong. Period. and you don't need hindsight to know that attacking a ship on international waters is illegal and an act of piracy.

Regardless, chairs can cause a lot of damage if you hit someone with them.

Ah, so if you were attacked in your home and someone shot you, you would expect me to sympathize with the person who shot you since you acted in self defense and wounded them with a handy chair?

Your post misses the point that the blockade of Gaza cannot be justified in the first place.

You are 100% right Sunstone. Everybody seems to be ignoring the fact that Israel was the aggressor here. And the fact that the ship was carrying 10000 tonnes of human aid.

Israel Flotilla Disaster: Gaza Embargo, U.S. Supporters to Blame - The Daily Beast

It seems to me that the blockade is justified by Israel's refusal to allow Hamas access to its ports, which would be a very effective means to aquire weapons and further economic stablity.

Israel allows humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza, the ships simply must go through the proper channels (so to speak) so that Israel can be sure that it is humanitarian aid that is going into Gaza and not weapons.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says Israel is blocking vital medical supplies from entering the Gaza Strip. The U.N. agency says it is impossible to maintain a well-functioning health system if necessary supplies are not available. WHO spokesman Paul Garwood says the agency has been waiting for up to a year to be allowed to bring in hundreds of items. He says these include X-ray machines, electronic imaging scanners, laboratory equipment and basic items, such as elevators for hospitals....
....The World Health Organization says chronic malnutrition in Gaza has increased during the past few years and is now just over 10 percent.
