Jesus Said "It Is Finished"

Faith-confidence in what we hope for (Hebrews 11)
Are all men commanded to be Holy Spirit baptized?

How do I obey such a command?

How do I know I have obeyed being Holy Spirit baptized?
Not to interfere, but very interesting questions Which hinges on this discussion but I have to examine the scriptures again regarding this subject. I dare not say anything much before I do.

I like your attitude.

If I can be of any help let me know.

Thanks for posting.
Hi. I did some research and came across some scriptures about baptism. The one that struck me as far as the necessity for water baptism after Jesus is the following at Matthew 3:13-17:
'Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”'

So I see here that Jesus set the pace for water baptism. I'll stop there because I'd like to have your thought about this.

If I may, and of course Nova2216 will give his thoughts. There are no verses in the Bible that connect Jesus's baptism with anyone else's. No one in the Bible said get baptized because Jesus got baptized. Our baptisms are related to remission of sins Acts 2:38, and Jesus did not have any sin.

First of all, why do you think Jesus got baptized?

To fulfill all righteousness. If you're going to ask me what that means, I cannot give you a certain answer.
I appreciate that. So I am going to look more at the scriptures and see where they lead. I was looking at John 3 again, this goes back to John and Jesus when both were alive. Both Jesus and John were baptizing.
John 3:22-26 declares:
"After this, Jesus and His disciples went into the Judean countryside, where He spent some time with them and baptized. 23. Now John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because the water was plentiful there, and people kept coming to be baptized. 24. (For John had not yet been thrown into prison.) 25. Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the issue of ceremonial washing. 26. So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Look, Rabbi, the One who was with you beyond the Jordan, the One you testified about--He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”
So we see here that Jesus was baptizing. (Don't we?) As well as John..

* We can learn many things from (Mt. 3).

1. Baptism is in water and it is a burial. (Col.2:12) (Rom.6:3-6).

2. Jesus was baptized in water to fulfill all righteousness. He had no sins. (Mt.3:15,16)

3. It gives us a very clear picture of the trinity (or Godhead) (Mt.3:16)

4. We also see Jesus is still living and the New Covenant had no yet been established. (Heb.8:6-13 ; 9:15-17 ; 10:9,10)

Our N.T. instruction by the grace of God had not yet gone in force.

This happened in (Acts 2) according to (Joel 2:28) (Isa.2:1-5) (Acts 2:16,17) (Luke 16:16).

It's important to note that there is only one gospel (FOR "IT"). (Rom.1:16)

...that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (1Cor.1:10)

...let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. (Phil.3:16)

So what was the Jews taught in (Acts 2:38,47)?

...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

...And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Those who were baptized in (Acts 2:38) were added to the church (for the church is the saved people) (Acts 2:47)

It is automatic, when one obeys the gospel the Lord adds one to the church (or the kingdom).

Question - How did they get into the church (or INTO CHRIST / INTO THE KINGDOM) (Col.1:13) (2Tim.2:10)

...Baptized INTO CHRIST (ROM.6:3-6) (Gal.3:27)
...Baptized INTO CHRIST (ROM.6:3-6) (Gal.3:27)
...Baptized INTO CHRIST (ROM.6:3-6) (Gal.3:27)

Each and every conversion in the NT was done in the very same manner. (1Cor.1:10) (Phil.3;16)

Baptism is mentioned in each conversion. (if my memory serves me correctly)

(Acts 8:36,38,39 ; 10:47) and (1Peter 3:20,21) (Col.2:12) (Titus 3:5) helps to prove their conversions was in water.

The water is not what washes away their sins.

In the water is WHEN their sins were washed away by the blood of Jesus (Eph.1:7) (Rev.1:5)

Jesus tied water and blood together in (Jn.19:34)..

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

It's in the death of Jesus where we get the cleansing of the Lords blood.

The sinner is BAPTIZED INTO THE DEATH OF CHRIST according to (Rom.6:3-6).

Newness of life comes at the burial in water and being raised up with Christ (Rom.6:3-6) (Col.2:12) (Eph.2:6).

That is correct--Jesus did not have any sin to be cleansed of. Yet he got baptized. And the Father approved of this. Jesus presented himself to the Father to do His will at that point. Hebrews 10:5-10 further explains this.

There are a lot of subjects and different topics. I guess I'm kind of slow, so I need to understand one thread at a time.

It's great that you're looking into this. I will offer one piece of guidance for now. As per Acts 19:1-5. John's baptism did end, and the baptism in water that started being employed after Jesus's resurrection is baptism in Jesus's name Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38-39.

People please take note of this -

Some churches teach -> Believe (NOT) + Baptized = Salvation

Others teach ------------> Believe + Baptized (NOT) = Salvation

Some churches "add" to the word of God when they place the word "NOT" just behind the word "Believe".

Others "add" to the word of God when they place the word "NOT" just behind the word "Baptized"
.

Here is the problem - "both are wrong" according to the word of God. (2Jn 9)

The church of Christ teaches neither of the doctrines above b/c it's not what the NT teaches..

The account of the Ethiopian baptized by Philip helps to understand more about water baptism..Acts 8:37,38 shows that the eunuch got baptized in water once he understood about Jesus.
"As they traveled along the road and came to some water, the eunuch said, “Look, here is water! What is there to prevent me from being baptized?” 38And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him."

I agree. It sets a good pattern. We ought to understand about Jesus before getting baptized.

Google It?

(excerpt)

“Just google it!” Thus rings the clarion cry of our current culture. Whether fact, fiction, formula, definition, or historic or current event, just google it! The entire world and all its information instantaneously at your inquiring fingertips! What a tool! What a weapon! What an incredible blessing… or is it?

For example, in recently googling the question, “Is baptism essential for salvation?” the top website referred to (1) said in part: “…Being put right with God by union with Christ in the divine miracle of conversion and new birth — is by faith and faith alone on our part.” That is precisely the exact opposite of what God’s word says (Jms. 2:17-24). Said website went on to say, “God uses faith as the sole instrument of union with Christ, and thus counts us righteous and becomes one hundred percent for us in the instant that we have faith in Jesus. That’s my answer.” That’s the problem: That’s his answer – and not God’s answer.

There is no BIBLE answer for the following questions.

Isn't that what you meant to say?

How do I obey such a command?

How do I know I have obeyed being Holy Spirit baptized?

Jesus in me
Any thoughts on my explanation of the Book of Acts being a transition between the old and new, that it took time to understand the old was done and the new was in, therefore they kept following the old for some time before the new was given by Paul?

I don't believe Paul gave them anything that they didn't already have.
