I have to agree that it is silly to think that one can "dismantle" any religion that the best scholars and educated individuals have sought to disprove for hundreds of years and have been unable to prove. It is like the athiest who claims that they can dismantle christianity, or the christian claiming to be able to dismantle athiesm. Such claims are silly jabs.

I do admit that I like the restorational movement in all it's varieties and I do find an attraction to any attempt (whether by historian or by prophet or by layman) to discover, uncover and restore the earliest and most authentic form of Judeo-Christian belief regarding base doctrines.

But it’s easy with Mormonism because the whole foundation is comprised of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. Show that Joseph Smith was not a prophet and/or that the Book of Mormon is not true and/or was not brought forth as claimed, and the whole thing crumbles.

Please refrain from debating. This is not a debate forum. Would you like to go to a debate forum about the CES Letter and questions/information therein? We could do one on one or have it open to everyone.

That's up to you. I will be quite blunt that I don't have much patience for slander. I've been around a few years and don't wish to waste my time repeatedly debunking garbage.

If you want to have a real discussion great let's talk, but I'm going to waste my time looking into dozen of cut and pate whines and lies that are all too common on the internet.

I haven't heard them using the term "high priest" for any position. Which person is that?

Stake presidents, mission presidents - they call pedophiles to lead. Little kids, entire congregations raising their hands, feeling the spirit, confirming pedophiles. For me, it was like a bad marriage - joining that church, putting everything into it to be stabbed in the back, and find so many others also stabbed.
"The majority will not be led astray" - the majority are inactive, the majority have left. Racist, sexist, pedophile foundation that still exists.

Grooming. Not kindness. It was grooming.

It sad to use a platform like this to spread hateful and baseless accusations.

There are some things about the theology that I really like but some I definitely don't agree with. It's why I am so torn on it.
Religion is understood to be the ultimate truth. I am not a Christian because I'm ambivalent of its veracity - I am convicted that it is the only true religion in the entire world - again, that's why I classify myself as a Christian.
Again, one's belief system or religion, is their impression as to where the truth lies. Therefore, if you are torn over about 50% of the LDS faith, then clearly it is not accurate enough for you to put your faith in its theology. Stay away, don't be a wishy-washy adherent, it does neither you or the Church that you belong to any good, such an attitude defames you both.
Wait until you are entirely convicted of the precepts of a particular religion, before you enter the flock and commit yourself to such a life and discipline.

Yeah, you're right. Thanks!

Victim blaming is common in the lds church, as seen above.

For those reading this, if your child is abused at church, know no one at church will help you - they will not believe you, they will blame you, they will further victimize you and will continue to stand by the pedophile, thinking all callings come from God.

You will need to find a detective who is in no way connected to the church, use therapists who are in no way connected to the church, get restraining orders against those in the church.

I was lucky - in our case, he videotaped what he did, so we had the evidence to convict - he is now in jail the rest of his life, without probation, under Jessica's law.

It is a dangerous church - when people confuse elevation as guidance from God - it leads to abuse/rationalization/warped messiah complex stuff. It is a nightmare, and it is now my job to warn others about what that group really is- a cult.

How dare you. Idea and her family were victims of sexual abuse covered up by the church.

Thanks watchman. As someone who was also in the cult I know the other side too, know brain washing is real. Humans are strange tribal herd animals who have faith in leaders, bias is real, cognitive dissonance is real, just animals in a herd.

Not what this thread is for.

If you were a seeker, rather than a believer, you would better understand. This is a place for those without home, for those who wander, for those who see the strange herds from a distance, for those now independent and free. We are nomads, travelers, it is curious to see all the different groups, educational. We take what is good, leave what is bad, remain detached and free.

The rise of the unaffiliated.

This is not a debate thread. And the baseless insults of a belief system someone is talking about it wrong.

I’m not debating. I’m pointing out to seekers the poisonous behavior of Mormons.

your greatly misrepresented the churches teachings and practices. Are there jerks in the church? Yes. Has the church been 100% successful in ending abuse? No.

I don’t know of any sizable organization that can boat no abuse by any person in it.

The teachings, doctrine and practices of the church all condemn abuse. They have had anti abuse trainings for decades. That someone messed up even messed up majorly does not mean that it is what the churches teaches, endorses etc.

So my I suggest you are your dishonest unsupported false accusations and put them somewhere else.

It’s unfortunate that you are not aware of what’s actually going on.

Binge watch Under the Banner of Heaven on Hulu before you meet up! You’ll have even more questions!
Of course i have more questions, i am going there to meet him, with open mind to listen to him just as i do to anyone else i meet in my life now.
They are free to express their belief, just like i am free to express my belief.

After they explain they believe their leaders are actual apostles, be sure to ask them what their opinion is of Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus with a kiss. What do they think of the apostles who could not stay awake even one hour, who denied Christ, who left him to die alone - the Apostles who could not walk on water, could not heal - ask if they believe the current Apostles are any better, and if not, if they are allowed to disagree, if they do not need to sustain all, if they are free to follow their own conscience.
