I explained my position and there was obviously more to it than that.

Put it this way, Westy: if this were a bar and I were the bartender and some new person came in and said: "Hi, I'm a new person, here's what I think of this issue and that issue, and etc...." that's all fine. Depending on the topic and the new guys level of knowledge on it, I would listen, debate, discuss, whatever that turned into.

On the other hand, if a new person walks in and goes "OK! Those curtains need to be ripped down! they don't go with the rest of the decor! And you! Bartender!! Stop slouching!! And you guys at the bar! You better watch your language now that I'm here!!! And turn off that darn juke box! I brought my ukelele!!!....""

Different story.

Exactly my point. On the one hand I accept the views of Alceste and drole that maybe more should have/ should be done about what appears to be 'anti-gay hate speech' and on the other I agree with you that mods can't be everywhere at once. I think 9-10th also made a good point about ability to express views without trolling/ hating. Of course when said view is void of any reason it becomes ignorance. I'm not sure if the thread in mind is ignorance on the part of the anti-gay side. It's not my part to judge. I also don't know if you or the other mods have looked at the thread(s) in question. If need be I can report some of the posts that are particularly bad (although I didn't get offended myself). As for your job I feel that the moderation of this site has been top notch for the short time I've been here and for that I am grateful for all the hard work that has been put in. I hope that this issue, that has clearly caused some heated debate, will be resolved soon. Either way this will probably blow over soon enough

IMO, some of the most interesting members are new people.

Sometimes that's a good thing. Sometimes it's a bad thing.

Indeed. We've had a lot of interesting new members. A lot of good and bad ones. And that's only since I joined a few months ago. I wonder what the future members will be like *starts daydreaming*

Indeed. I've met lots of really interesting people. Most have been on RF longer than myself but others have joined after me who i engage with regularly on chat. Then there was the big thing with 'yourgraceisenough' (hope I'm allowed to quote the username). That was..... interesting xD

Of course not

*whispers to others* 'Darn he saw through our clever plan. What do we do now'

Oh hi rev :D

A feint within a feint within a feint, eh?

(A frubal for the first to recognize that reference!)

New blood is continually needed.
For some of us, discussion is moot.....with every topic already fully explored, we now just exchange knowing glances.
What fun is that?

I think passionate is the word you're looking for :D. I respect the opinions that all have expressed thus far in the thread and I believe that everyone has had something valid to contribute. This need no apology IMO :D

Yes, let us help mods make RF an even better place than it already is. I'm not a big "reporter", but that is going to change.

Thanks Jeremy. I won't be gone all that long, just need a bit of a cool off period. I feel a bit better already getting it off my chest and knowing I'm not alone in my frustration. :)

we cant really work without members help, I know some people dont like reporting but unless we are actually involved in the thread we wont know the offending post is there.

I have a question.

many of the long debates here which seem to be above the dimension of time in RF are contermporary debates in the American system. for example same sex marriage and teaching evolution in school.
the two opposing views are debated by both parties, I don't think that staff can change the essense of the society itself which most dominates the forum.
most members are American and they argue the same things which are argued in American public debates, or in the American media.

isnt the whole power of debate the fact that you can provide good information about the issue?
for example push the right information on why we SHOULD legalize same sex marriage?
obivously we are far from the stage that same sex marriage are the rule of the land, are we not here on RF part of the debate? and should we not provide our debates instead of pretending there is no debate?
the question is: should we simply delete every debate which doesn't answer our own political criteria?
when do we stop? should we ban political threads that are simply not to the standards of the liberal majority?

Yes

for example push the right information on why we SHOULD legalize same sex marriage?

OK

obivously we are far from the stage that same sex marriage are the rule of the land, are we not here on RF part of the debate?

Part of the debate, yes.

and should we not provide our debates instead of pretending there is no debate?

No

the question is: should we simply delete every debate which doesn't answer our own political criteria?

No

when do we stop?

We don't stop, but when the people in debate breaks the rules, we need to inform the mods of the discrepancies.

should we ban political threads that are simply not to the standards of the liberal majority?

No

Take care Alceste. I'm glad your feeling better. Hopefully, when you come back, things will be a little more tactful then they are now.
