Since this election I've given the second amendment some thought. I would like to get an idea people who own firearms and their political stance.

I happen to be liberal and own no firearms. I bring this up because for some years I have wondered what would happen if stuff hit the fan and I needed something. Well I have my legal knives and bee bee gun, lol.

If we were attacked by any sort of terrorist I would need to go to my conservative friends and borrow some of the many firearms they own. I know that sounds kinda sad but I'm a pacifist a liberal and I have young kids, you could probably just pick any of those as enough of a reason to not have firearms.

I also happen to live in a state that doesn't allow us to defend our property like they do in neighboring states. We will go to jail shooting a person trying to break in and harm our family. Not that self defense is not OK in my state but then the law will have to argue whether something was "reasonable" even if they break in our home. We have what called a "limited castle doctrine". I find this dumb. Bills to put this down did not pass.

I am also ok with people who have guns but don't mind reasonable restrictions.

Voted liberal with gun. Only used for putting down sick or injured animals thought, not for home defense. Kept dismantled and locked away when not needed. Wouldn't even attempt to get to it in a home invasion, would just prioritize getting out.

No party, no gun.

I Live in the UK, so much tighter gun laws here-vand no gun culture comparable to the US as far as I know. I'm ok with that honestly.

With children it would be locked up so wouldn't do much good for a home invasion even if I had firearms. Come to think about it wouldn't normally do any good unless your carrying a gun around all the time in a holster like in the wild west.
So you can have a portcullis but not a moat?
No moats with alligators or boiling oil them are the rules.

I hear that is similar in Australia where the heavily restrict firearms.

Yup. When you're a farmer, you have a gun. Like you have a truck. There's no question about it, it's a tool, like a pitchfork, and you have it. I suppose if it's taken away I'd have to use cruder tools, like a machete or axe, and bow. Just as deadly, but I'd hate it, nasty. I'd grab a hatchet for home defense tho, and god have mercy on you, you'd rather I had a gun. See, with a gun, it's easier to threaten and not use it. A lessor weapon would be used right off.

I don't hunt, but I keep thinking about maybe duck hunting for food.

There is no centrist or Libertarian option. :D Some of us don't need babysitters.

So far, all the conservatives responding do not own firearms. Me included. How interesting is that?
It is interesting. Makes me wonder how black and white political issues really are, compared to what the polarization makes it out to be.
