Wokeism is the cult of the great Chinese food. You become especially woke after eating spicy Chinese food and getting overwhelmed by the spicy feeling.

Stay wok!

You've confused wokeism with Wokism. Not to be confused with the equally adorable Ewokism.

ChatGPT had this to say about the definition of "woke" - and the difference about whether or not it's a positive state or note is clearl:

The term "woke" is a slang word that emerged in the early 2010s, particularly within Black American English. It refers to an individual's awareness of social and political issues, particularly those related to systemic injustice and inequality. Being "woke" is often associated with a critical consciousness and an active effort to challenge and address social problems, particularly those related to race, gender, sexuality, and other forms of oppression.

The term has since evolved and has been used in various contexts, sometimes being used pejoratively to describe individuals who are seen as excessively politically correct or self-righteous in their activism. However, at its core, being "woke" generally refers to a heightened level of awareness and sensitivity to issues of social justice and equity.
With the more authentic definition here, I might be woke just not "woke".

Obviously you like to demand examples on just about everything on a subject as if you didn't know or something, even if it's already been wildly known and expressed nationwide on just about every media platform.

But OK, here's one example that's already well known, as if you never heard of such a thing in your life.

In my country people make fun of you if you are politically correct.
So just imagine what they think of wokeism. :p

Every time I try to discuss this topic in my family I get shut down and described in ways that I disagree with.

As i see it.

Wokeness is a form of extremism. The attempts to force views and perspectives on other people who don't share the same thing.

The key word being , "force".

Like the right wing is doing with vaccines, masks, what's in libraries, what is taught in colleges etc.

Wokism is an impressive form of modern indoctrination that teaches the gullible followers who submit to it to obsess over race and oppression, and to actively look for it in every aspect of life- even when there is none- and to leverage it as much as possible to the exclusive benefit of a select few groups… so that they might easily obtain through the pity, guilt and shame of others advantages in life that other demographics must work hard for to earn for themselves and their families.

Wokeism

What is it? Is it good? Is it bad? What do you think of it? Should it be taught? Should it be banned? What else do you want to say or ask about it?

Go.

I think it's used as an insult and I really have no idea what it means and I don't think those who use it have any idea either.

Go.

I'm not sure I'm engaging the way you want, but...

Wokeism in its current context, as opposed to its original one, is a politicised term used to chill discussion about a variety of topics in any nuanced fashion.

The right commonly use it as the 'boogeyman' under the bed. It allows them to take reactive measures without ever needing to properly engage with whatever it is they are reacting to, or build any sort of nuanced or detailed understanding of it.

The left, though, are sometimes waving away criticisms of social trends or discussion points that don't align with their views as 'anti-wokeism' and assuming the criticism I've levelled at the right means they don't need to engage much past the same unbalanced level of detail.

It's beginning to approach Godwin's Law levels...

I guess I am all for wokeism, mainly because I have no time for people who treat "woke" as something to complain about.

Why doesn't the OP present the working definition of 'Wokeism' that we are to discuss?
Because I wanted people who responded to say what they thought it was.

So far, those who have provided definition have been consistent. You can interact with one of those definitions, or provide your own as you please.

Or you can consider the definition provided by a lawyer working for DeSantis, which was "The belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them."

What do you think the definition is? Are you opposed to “wokeism”? Why or why not?
