I don't wish to spread hate. I just think killing babies is wrong.

With that, I'm gone.

Nice post Madhuri!

The point in time when a foetus develops consciousness and individuality is unknown but according to the criteria provided by several theorists on personhood it is surely necessary to at least decrease the cut off date for abortion"

Laws which would be enforced regardless of the decision the mother and doctor make? I would think most mothers in council with their doctors and whoever they choose to involve could make that decision for themselves.

Life does not begin at conception. That could only be true if sperm and eggs were dead and came to life when joined. This is not the case. Life is a continual sequence that has been going on for billions of years.

Lucky for you women having abortions are not killing babies.

Neither is the fact that from a quarter to half of all fertilized eggs miscarried will worry our conscience either.

Well, quite honestly, when the human race is on the brink of extinction I may change my tune on abortion. Until then, we are little more than a virus that is eating away at its host.

Abortion will be the only way for us to survive soon. Abort and feed. Its ok, us anglo-saxon males will be bred out long before any of that happens.

Yes they are, they are killing their unborn chiild. Dont women talk about hte "life growing inside them" so if this fetus is not a life then why call it that?

Miscarraige is not the issue here, Abortion is. Miscarraige right now is part of our life, bu it wont be in the new system when things are much better and the human condition is resotred to what it was with Adam and Eve.

Explain to me the connection between "life" and "babies".

You've said "The life growing inside of them". What makes that life a baby? What are the characteristics of a baby? Life =/= Baby. I don't know how you can even attempt to put that forth as an argument.

Miscarraige is not the issue here, Abortion is. Miscarraige right now is part of our life, bu it wont be in the new system when things are much better and the human condition is resotred to what it was with Adam and Eve.

You miss gnomon's point completely. If "killing unborn babies" is wrong (which I agree it is, but the pro-lifers like to equate it with abortion), then the deaths of 1/4 to 1/2 of all fertilized eggs SHOULD worry our conscience.

And does anyone have a choice whether or not they are in this "new system"? Out of curiosity.

And if Adam and Eve are anything to go by, the "much better human condition" won't last very long....and there'll be lots of incest...

Why stop at conception? All sperm and eggs should be considered life, and protected.

The only questions is, how?

I hope I am not too off topic when I ask why it has to be the bible that provides this evidence? Abrahamic religions are not the only ones that typically believe life begins at conception. As a Wiccan, I believe that all life is precious and that it does start at conception. Scientifically, changes take place as soon as a human sperm cell enters a human egg cell. The first is that the egg does not accept any additional sperm. If it is not alive and on a mission, how can it know to only allow one in? The rest aren't giving up. Each and every one of them are trying. From that point on the sperm and egg cells combine, multiply, and divide to create a complex multi-cellular structure. Saying it is not a living being until it is born is like saying a child born with only one arm is not really human.

The implications of what you say is that both sperm and egg are alive and therefore masturbation is tantamount to killing. Copulation is tantamount to killing as well because all the millions of other sperm that are not successful in fertilizing the egg also die. Wet dreams are tantamount to killing. Women not getting pregnant is tantamount to killing. Men not releasing their sperm is also tantamount to killing as unused sperm are absorbed by the body as protein and new sperm are manufactured.

The implications of what you are saying is that every person is guilty of genocide many, many times over. I presume you are against abortion. Well, if the implications of what you say is that everyone is guilty of genocide many, many times over, why have any qualms about the lucky fertilized gamete? Why not terminate it as well, if need be? Is the crime of killing 1,000,000 humans much less grotesque than killing 1,000,001?

How what? And how are sperm and eggs life? An embryo grows, has it's own dna and physical tissues. Sperm and eggs do not.

An embryo cannot exist w/o the mother thus cannot be considered technically "life" since it cannot exist by itself. I'm simply being sarcastic by taking the argument to the extreme.

Sperm and eggs have their own DNA, and they're tissue. And if either of the sperm or egg are dead, you won't get a living embryo.

All cells have dna. They hide out in the gonads of the cell. (I like the new theory of Mem-Brains. ;) ) Red Blood cells don't have gonads so they don't have dna... but sperm most definitely has DNA... (If it didn't how could kids inherit anything from their daddy?)

No as there has to be both to create life. An egg cannot create life on its own accord and sperm cannt create life on its own accord. you need both. Once thatl ife is created in the womb, it is a life.

Done here.
Is there any biblical basis for the claim that life begins at conception?
After five and a half months and nearly 400 posts, we've seen all kinds of grasping at straws, off-topic arguing and posturing, appeals to science or the poster's idea of it, and appeals to emotion including this truly remarkable photo of a zygote:

What we have not seen is any credible assertion that there is any biblical evidence for the claim that life begins at conception.

That's because there is none.

Your question is answered, Darkness. Go in peace. :D
