But again, there isn't like some group called SJWs. It's purely an external term.
Well, it is intended to be dismissive.
Theoretically, that makes sense - but in practice I find it's basically used to slag off all progressives, and dismiss them whenever they raise their concerns.
That is just wrong!
It's a problem with all terms, eg, commie, socialist, liberal, conservative.
They become inappropriately used insults.

Remember that I recently took some test which certified me as an "ultra-progressive".
And yet, I don't feel that "SJW" applies to me.
Know that it doesn't apply to you either.

Btw, if someone does specifically call you one, let me know....I'll write a snarky limerick about'm.

But those other terms are self-identifiers. SJW is purely a slur.

Hate to say it, but it's because most of their "concerns" like microaggressions and rape culture are bull****.

But this isn't like some group which regularly does X and Y. You just lump everyone who talks about microaggression and rape culture into this denigrated stereotype.

Also, rape culture is very much not bull****. It is a deeply entrenched societal problem.

Slurs should be used with care.
Example....
If someone calls me a "godless heathen", it's accurate & inoffensive.

That's cos you're a bit weird.

Anyone who talks about microaggressions seriously is, imo, a SJW. So the term is indeed subjective.

That's your opinion. In mine, it's nonsense.

Then of course you're going to dismiss someone who says such things, doesn't make them intrinsically unreasonable. I find it rather unfathomable how you can reject the idea, but you may placate yourself by calling me a name if you like.

I reject the idea because my research tells me that 'rape culture' doesn't exist, ergo imo the SJWs are wrong. I don't believe in 'microaggression' either, so I think the SJWs are wrong there. The list pretty much goes on.

And actually I mostly just use the words 'liberal' and 'SJWs' synonymously....which is wrong I guess...but they seem linked to me.

I don't see what the big deal is and I don't think she should apologize. Calling it "yellow-face" is just stupid, anyway, since "black-face" came from minstrel shows and is explicitly racist, whereas this photoshoot wasn't.

Hey Kirran, One of my mentors - goes by the name Confucius - was in favor of giving recurring phenomenon names so that they can be discussed. There ARE a group of people on the left who's recurring tactics are to attempt to shut down conversation. To limit speech. What would you propose calling those people?

Lol. I think I'll stick with Olympianism for the time being. I'll still study Asatru but I don't want to leap headfirst into something I don't know as much about. Maybe I will end up combining them. Who knows.

Rape culture is essentially the sexual objectification of women, expectation that women owe men, lack of respect for female autonomy, the trivialisation of rape etc. That's something that isn't some fringe understanding, it's a sociological phenomenon which is acknowledged very widely. So you'd be calling a heck of a lot of people by this slur.

I've never come across it; it's not an experience I've had. And I don't know anyone who thinks rape is trivial.

I think it's a trend within elements of the progressive movement (I hesitate to call it the left, on account of the lack off association with leftist ideals) rather than a group, I think its elements should be treated case by case as a matter of strategy.

Jokes about consent etc are not at all uncommon among young men. Just because you haven't had X experience doesn't mean it's automatically nonsensical. I haven't experienced anti-Semitism, either.

Oh for goodness sake, it's just a joke. My best friend and I tell way worse jokes to each other almost literally every day.

Jokes about it trivialise it. That does actually effect how people think and view the world and relate to people.

So you are basically saying that we should never joke about controversial or serious topics? So children signing "Hitler has only got one ball" trivialised National Socialism? This makes no sense.

No, that's a strawman of what I'm saying. I think jokes that make light of rape are different to jokes mocking the leaders of political movements which are societally damaging.

I still disagree that jokes about rape trivialise it. Humans will joke about anything. It doesn't bother me. There are plenty of people who make jokes about Catholic Priests molesting children; I'm not sure that trivialises it at all.
