More than 100 political elites in todays government have slaveholding ancestry.

I respect your opinion.
But after the nightmarish eight years of Obama... I guess any president would have looked incredibly good and charismatic.

So Trump was the rainbow after the storm. :)

If you think Obama is somehow better than Trump, explain me why. Since...as we can see from the article, he still descends from a very elitist family, by the motherly side.
Trump a rainbow?
Ignoring the obvious irony to that statement, really?
I mean you’re entitled to your opinion and I respect that.
But my country’s news media literally mocked him for being a giant doofus for years. And we’re Australian lol
He’s been considered an international embarrassment for years at this point, as far as I’m aware.
Not to disparage any of his supporters. Just an observation.
Support him as much as you like as far as I’m concerned. I’m just saying

You eluded my question, though. ;)
I repeat it.

I don’t?
Like I don’t really consider Obama better than Trump.
He wasn’t mocked as much as Trump in the media but that’s about it.
I will say that I don’t consider Trump to be as dignified as Obama. Like that guy has no class at all. I can see why the international media considers him an embarrassment. I wouldn’t want our politicians acting like that doofus. He’s just dumb lol
At least Obama could speak English correctly
And I say that as a drunk idiot Aussie bogan lol

Like I don’t care for Obama either. I’m not an American
I just think that he’s more civilised in the videos I’ve seen him (and Trump) in

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
So what.
It still seems to me they are trying real hard to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

That is not to say that the information is not interesting.

I would be most curious how many non government persons also have the same ties to slavery.

Except I did read it.
It reads like the author thinks they are revealing some deep dark forbidden secret that will somehow change the world as we know it.
The article itself mentions non government individuals as well have ancesteral ties to slaveholders. Maybe you missed that.

It would be nice if the article did change the world, but it's a start.

Honestly...I prefer vulgar and crass people who love their own fatherland, their own nation, and do their best to serve it...

rather than some perfectly educated, refined lawyer who took devastating decisions for the world peace, especially the Mediterranean area, which is the area where my country is.

Obama isn't worth not even 1/10 of what Trump is worth. I am speaking of spiritual value...not material value.
In my language we use different expressions between spiritual value and monetary value.
And I am the first to admit that Trump has countless flaws...so being 1/10 of Trump....well..imagine that. ;)

I don’t think Trump even embodies that. If I’m being honest. He just seems like a full blown narcissist egotist who only wants fame.
At least Obama came across as a civilised individual
More than I can say about our politicians but we can just blame the booze lol
Not to disparage any of his voters. Go for it. Not stopping you
But if I’m being honest? Trump just seems like the worst most awful celebrity idiot imaginable. He’s a complete moron who just wants praise and doesn’t give a damn about his own country. Imo

So? They themselves aren't guilty and we all have that and far worse in our family tree somewhere down the line.
You do.
I looked into your family tree, & discovered
that your great great great great great
grandfather invented the extended warranty.
But he isn't you. We can't punish you for
his crime against humanity.

I suppose one potential use for discovering
that so many lefties & blacks descend from
slave holding stock is that this history can
be waved in their faces when they derisively
carry on about someone else's "privilege".

Sometimes historical research illuminates
the human condition. Other times it's
just a footnote about the obvious.

That includes Presidents,

Biden 1 slave

Bush 25 slaves

Carter 54 slaves

Clinton 1 slave

Obama. 2 slaves

There's a slew of house and senate members, governers and representatives also listed along with the number of slaves owned

Many had declined to comment on the history of their slaveholder families.

It's quite an eye opener.
So...what?
Eye opener to what?

Trump's family: zero.
Because his grandfather is from Germany, where slavery was abolished after the fall of the Western Roman Empire;
by the end of the X century and with the birth of the Holy Roman Empire, slavery had completely disappeared in Central Europe. ;)

In his blood there is not that elitist blue blood that runs in the veins of the Bushes...
Well that makes him terrif then.
Maybe no bank robbers either.
At least not before him.

Just like no one alive in the US today its guilty of it but those today are held accountable by some who think those today should pay to make it up.

Ask Reuters.

Also it's explained in the article as well as a learning opportunity by Prof. Henry Gates Jr.

Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr calls the Reuters examination “a learning opportunity,” not only for members of Congress and other political elites but also for their constituents and “the American people as a whole.” REUTERS/Demetrius Freeman/File Photo
How about if you ask Reuters; after all you posted it so you musta found some importance in all of this. Suppose my ancestors from 150 years ago were mass murders? Is this supposed to be a reflection on me? Sounds absurd to me; am I missing something here?

I think reparations for slavery are a good idea.
Let's see if descendants of slave owners personally
step up to pay descendants of slaves.
Let Obama pay up first.

My ancestors didn't arrive in USA til after the
Civil War. I don't know what those ignominious
nobodies did in the old countries....but you can
bet we were up to no good. Especially in Scotland,
where we had the reputation for being thugs.
(Sarcastically called the "Gentle Johnstons".)

Sell things like Mount Vernon plantation, Monticello, etc(you get the picture) and give the money up for reparations.
