Mosque at Ground Zero

I personally support the right of the Muslims to build a mosque at that site. I do still feel sorry for those who would be offended by the building of it though. But honestly, I see no reason to be offended. The Muslims who committed the terrorist attacks were extremist Muslims. And as far as I am aware, the Muslim group that wants to build the mosque there are not extremist Muslims but are actually rather moderate. This Muslim group is not representative of all Muslims and especially not of extremist Muslims. Therefore, to punish these Muslims for what some extremist terrorist Muslims did is wrong in my opinion.

Apparently you didn't, either?

Associated Press said:
Tax records show that Elzanaty gave $6,050 to the foundation in 1999. At the time, it was the largest Islamic charity in the U.S. It raised millions of dollars from Americans in the 1990s, telling donors the money would fund schools, orphanages and social welfare programs.

Two years after Elzanaty made the donation, the U.S. government froze the foundation's assets and accused it of acting as a fundraiser for Hamas, which was labeled a terrorist organization by President Clinton in 1995.

Associated Press said:
Elzanaty's lawyer told a WNYW reporter in a report broadcast Thursday night that his client had no knowledge of the group's involvement with Hamas when he donated the money, and had intended the cash to go to an orphanage.

Many other donors to the foundation gave thinking their donations would fund humanitarian programs.

Other people and companies who donated money, equipment or services to the foundation the year Elzanaty gave included NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon, the Microsoft Corp., and a medical equipment company owned by General Electric, according to tax records.

When the foundation's leaders were indicted, Attorney General John Ashcroft said, the case was not "a reflection on the well-meaning people who may have donated funds to the foundation."

Associated Press said:
Elzanaty, whose mother and father died on a flight from New York to Cairo that went down in the Atlantic in 1999, has made no secret of his past philanthropy involving the Palestinians. In a 2002 interview with Newsday, he spoke of a hesitation to donate to Middle Eastern charities because of concerns that it could unwittingly land him in a terror investigation.

"When you see people surrounded by tanks and F-16s, you ask how can we help?" he told the paper. "But you don't want years later to have a knock on the door and someone asking why did you donate money?"

Look at it this way. The Vietcong were Vietnamese, only extremist.
Well, technically, they were South Vietnamese, according to my cursory examination of a Wikipedia article. North and South Vietnam were unified as a republic (1976) after the "Vietcong" name had been dropped around 1968 with the formation of the Alliance of National, Democratic, and Peace Forces.

Anyway, what's your point?

It's today's headline news and nothing you quoted dismisses the fact that this investor has ties to Muslim extremists. No one believes he didn't know where his donation was going, it's called lying and lawyers are skilled in this trade.

Think about it a while and you might understand.

If you can't, you are lost.
I know I'm lost regardless.

Okay, let me replace what you said with some choice words:

Al-Qaeda members are Muslims, only extremist.
Landover Baptist Church members are Christian, only extremist.
Jewish Defense League members are Jewish, only extremist.

Uh, still not getting it.

Other than the fact that it was a) the largest Islamic charity in the United States at the time, b) plenty of other people had donated money, c) big corporations sent money the same year he did, d) it was convicted of raising money for Hamas two years after he had donated....

I guess if I gave money to the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development thinking they would play good on their promise to fund orphanages, I would have ties to Muslim extremists. Along with Microsoft, GM, the NBA....

No, wait, Microsoft can't have funded extremists. This is all a cover-up! You're right, he does have some darn good lawyers if they could come up with all of this out of thin air and have the world believe them. And forget what the Attorney General said; he's probably just in on the conspiracy.

We can rely on Fox to tell us what's really going on:

:areyoucra Uhh.... The people that want to build this centre are Muslims. Al-Qaeda are Muslims. However, Al-Qaeda are extremists. That does not automatically mean the people that want to build this centre are extremists (Guilt by Association).

I am still lost. However, you did say you couldn't help me, so I'll just wander around till I eventually do reach wherever you are. Any signs along the way...?

So, Microsoft were knowingly funding Hamas? Why would they do that?

it's called aiding and abetting and it's from supporting not associating. It may even be treason at this point.

Understand that most religious adherents are pawns in a game of religious dominance played by their Institutions. Extremists of these Institutions manipulate and manage to use said Institution for their purpose.

So yes, the individual adherents of faith are not extremists.
