Mosque at Ground Zero

OH OH OH OH.

You mean that you shouldn't punish a whole group for the deeds of a minority, but it happens anyway?

Please tell me so I can sleep.

Goodnight.
You're not telling me if I'm right or wrong, though. sigh.

I'll probably have nightmares about the Viet Cong dancing with the Confederates with Osama Bin Laden singing "With or Without You". Don't ask.

Yes, I believe she's saying that a whole country was punished for the actions of a small group of its citizens. And apparently that justifies us making the same mistake twice. Generally, it's considered a good thing to learn from your mistakes so that you won't make the same one twice, but it seems she thinks it's a good idea to just keep making the same one over and over again. Hey, it's her right to think that wildly irrational thought, I guess.

It was extra nice of her to be so helpful in her part of the discussion, too. There's nothing more helpful in a debate than "Figure it out for yourself, dummy".

uh oh . . . Miss uninformed has arrived :slap:

Wait, I thought you were a guy. Are you now saying you're female? I mean you couldn't possibly be trying to claim Alceste's the one uninformed, could you? Nah, you must be calling yourself "Miss uninformed". That's the only thing that makes sense.

:D Maybe she's only trapped inside the body of a man... for now.

Anyway, don't pick on her. I prefer to think of such people as "differently informed".

Thanks for the answer. I actually didn't sleep. XD Probably not related to this thread, though.

This one that applies to state law?

Or this one that talks about Congress not overlapping the laws to take away more rights than necessary.

Bingo, those are the ones right there.

Good gravy, I'm tired of thinking about Muslims. Just about the time I decide I don't give a rat's *** about the Islamic center/mosque near Ground Zero, so I can clear some Muslims out of my head, I turn on the news and there are those two yahoos getting hauled off the plane in Amsterdam for taping cell phones to Pepto Bismol bottles.

SHEEZE!

"Upset stomach! Indigestion! Diarrhea! New Pepto-Bismol!"

From the NY Times, unfortunate aftermath of the NY center/mosque turmoil:

American Muslims Ask, Will We Ever Belong?

For nine years after the attacks of Sept. 11, many American Muslims made concerted efforts to build relationships with non-Muslims, to make it clear they abhor terrorism, to educate people about Islam and to participate in interfaith service projects. They took satisfaction in the observations by many scholars that Muslims in America were more successful and assimilated than Muslims in Europe.

Now, many of those same Muslims say that all of those years of work are being rapidly undone by the fierce opposition to a Muslim cultural center near ground zero that has unleashed a torrent of anti-Muslim sentiments and a spate of vandalism. The knifing of a Muslim cab driver in New York City has also alarmed many American Muslims. ...........

Muslim apologetics can be looked at in the same sense as they look at those they call Islamophobics . . . neither know anymore than the other what will happen in the future or even what 'really' is happening right now.

As individual religious adherents, 'I believe' most Muslims are not terrorists nor are the mosques they are affiliated with, but you know how institutions work, by money and manipulation. Sooner or later Al-Qaeda connections will move about within these structures and we'll have another catastrophe on our hands, we've seen this many times in Europe (yeah I know, more anti-Muslim propaganda).

Muslim extremists are aggressive and Faith driven (even if they are believed to be a misrepresentation of Islamic doctrine) Terror is a real and imminent danger and fear in this country.

Sharia Law is a touchy subject from the way it is translated to English and I'm sure it has added to the fear and distrust found in this country.

I'm not saying we don't have a good amount of bigotry and ignorance here, but this situation will never go away until a clear and intelligent Voice of Islam is brought forth that will ease the public's reservations and fears.

Could someone tell me what does apologetic mean?

What is meant by a religious apologetic, or a Muslim apologetic?

As I understand it, basically someone who defends their faith more or less.

So its not a bad thing, right?

I mean does it imply that the one defending is not being honest or something like that, or merely that they are defending their faith?

It depends. There are apologist w/ intentions of proselytizing, and there are some who simply do it to defend their faith or inform others.

Here is the Wiki article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apologetics

My question is, if Rauf were a follower of Salafi, would you still feel he had the right to have his mosque?
