I saw the Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

It was ok. Kind of long, though. I had to watch the third one after seeing the first two.

^That's the girl that kicked the hornet's nest, with her spiffy goth mohawk.

uck... I just watched the new "Clash of the Titans".
Some pretty special effects but it didn't make up for the lousy acting. I'll stick with the classic, at least it has some soul.

Plus the Kracken was ugly in a bad way and way too many of the critters were dull grey and black... Pegasus isn't goth. From a design perspective it also made it hard to keep track of against the host of other grey/black CGI.

I saw "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" (the latest Woody Allen Film) and just yesterday, "Please Give".

Interesting contrast. I liked Please Give's slice-of-life approach and simple, unassuming message.

Prince of Dorkness!
Black Swan is one that still has me wondering exactly how much was real and how much was in her head........

godless wonder
Been awhile since I've been to the theatres (even though I get free passes from my sister). Tangled was the last movie I saw and most Disney animation is pretty good.

I thought it was a pretty good wrapup, overall. I liked how uncomfortable Lisbet was with having to actually depend on someone else, andthen thank them afterwards.

I just watched 127 Hours a couple days ago... this movie was so good. I highly recommend it to people. It seriously inspired me to never take anything for granted! I was in tears the whole thing...

Just watched "the big Lebowski" now I'm researching Dudeism.

I love that movie. It gave me a taste for white Russians. The drink, I mean. :D

I saw NEDS recently. A Peter Mullan movie. Being a Scottish movie I doubt many of you will be aware of it. It was very good though.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. There's nothing to say that can convey just how thoroughly, brilliantly, deliberately BAD this thing is; it just has to be seen to be believed. 'Puberty Love' goes through my poor head at very inopportune moments. :help:

Irrational Rationalist. Educated Fool.
black swan, the fighter, true grit, the king's speech (loved it!), 127 hours, the social network ( I know, I was probably the last person in the world to see it) and winter's bone.

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad....

Starring Tom Baker and with Ray Harryhausen's special effect... squee! :jiggy:

The fight with the Kali statue is one of the best special effects scenes ever accomplished in movies. It's even more impressive when you take into account they did it without the use of computers.

ps... Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is amazing!

The Kids Are All Right - predictable & annoying.
Hmmm. I just ordered it on Netflix. I hope I like it better than you did.

Even the title was lame...."alright" makes more sense than "all right".
I know! "All Right" is "all wrong." It's grammatically incorrect, and that bugs the hell out of me.

Go see The King's Speech instead.
Absolutely! One of my all-time favorite movies.

I saw it with my son and then again with my husband. I was actually down in Moab, Utah -- very close to Canyonlands National Park, where it took place -- at the time. We had just got back to our motel from hiking in Arches National Park when we turned on the TV news and heard that some guy had just cut off his arm to free himself from being trapped by a boulder. When I heard they were going to make a movie of it, I wondered how they were going to manage to do it so that it would hold your interest. They definitely managed!

I had a HUGE CRUSH on Tom Baker when I was 14. :hearts: (Doctor Who, of course :D) I will have to check out Sinbad!

I think one of my favorite parts of Killer Tomatoes was the beginning when the tomatoes were just .... tomatoes, rolling around chasing people who ran away screaming. I laughed until I cried. My son's favorite part was the giant tomato with the huge pair of earmuffs on. :)

I did take the kids to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader recently, and had mixed feelings about the way they handled it. I usually do, since I grew up on the Narnia Chronicles and Tolkien's works and so forth. Overall I've been impressed with the movies.

As far as this one goes: BRILLIANT effects, with the horrifying exception of the minotaurs, who were embarrassing to watch. I wasn't sure I liked many of the plot twists, though I understand that cinema and books are different media and must be handled differently, blahblahblah.

I can excuse and/or forgive almost everything they did that diverged from the book, but I can't forgive one thing they forced to stay in the movie: the albatross. I was embarrassed beyond BELIEF for the director and producers by how they introduced the albatross on the Island of Dreams. Good bleeding grief, it was almost TRYING to be farcical. It would have been much better to leave it out altogether.

Eh, some Australian outback movie I can't remember the name of, The Mayfair Set, a documentary about economics, and Come and See, a Russian move from the 80's based on a real childhood in 1943.

The Horseman - about a guy taking revenge on members of a porn ring that killed his daughter.

It's a pretty violent movie. I almost turned it off, but it was too cool. It's just a feel good guy movie - almost a modern Western. Just good old fashioned blood and guts. Very realistic.
