Pan’s Labyrinth
I don't know if I commented on that one before here but I highly recommend it, far darker than I thought it would be, which is a good thing IMO. I don't mind subtitles myself but my wife does and after 15 minutes into the film she seemed to lose her apprehension, one of the best I've seen in quite a while.

Other than that the "Horrorfest 2006 8 films to die for" were not all that bad, not great but I've seen much worse with top billing and famous actors. seen all but the "snoop" one, "reincarnation", and "the Hamiltons" The one that was considered the best was 'The Abandoned" which was released today, worth checking out IMO, 2007 coming soon other than that, decent, cheap entertainment, the "Seed of Chucky" is a good barometer of my tastes.

Fantasia 2000
DVD/ Color/ 75 Mins./ G/ 2000
Blending lively music and brilliant animation, this remake of the original Fantasia breathes new life into Disney's masterpiece. The Sorcerer's Apprentice reappears, and seven new shorts debut in this updated production. Abstract shapes soar through the air, computer-animated whales take flight, a metropolis comes to life and a favorite children's story is retold to the music of Ludwig van Beethoven and George Gershwin, among others.

Downfall -
The end of World War II from the Nazi perspective, focusing on Hitler, his secretary, the families involved in the fall of the Third Reich, the generals, and their differing faith in the Fuhrer. It is quite amazing to see the dedication, loyalty, and faith that these people had in Hitler, to the point of tears when the Third Reich fell - all of them, generals, teenagers, children who fought and committed suicide in the last days, mothers...

Beautiful film, highly recommended.

Guilty As Charged
DVD/ Color/ 95 Mins./ R/ 1991
Ben Kallin (Rod Steiger) wants to see justice -- his kind of vigilante justice -- meted out to the man who killed his family. His instrument of retribution is his own private electric chair, which he also uses to snuff out other dregs of society. But when a corrupt politician frames an innocent man, Kallin's "no appeal" style might be the ultimate miscarriage of justice. Co-stars Heather Graham, Isaac Hayes and Lauren Hutton.

I just saw Transformers yesterday and I thought it was awesome. I used to watch the cartoon growing up, but this was way better than the cartoon. I wish I had a transforming car.

Transformers

I have a few gripes, but overall it was amazing. Who needs a story when you have 20 ft. transforming robots doing battle, anyway?

The Black Cauldron
DVD/ Color/ 80 Mins./ PG/ 1985
Disney's first PG-rated animated film is a thrilling swords-and-sorcery epic that will amaze older children. In an ancient land, the dreaded Horned King (voiced by John Hurt) is trying to gain control of the Black Cauldron to raise an army of the dead. And unless a boy, a princess and a fortune-telling pig can stop him, the world will be doomed!

A dark animated movie for Disney at that time, which garnished a PG rating and scenes of bloodshed.

I have not seen this movie in over 30 years and was recently reunited with it this weekend and received it with nostalgic warmth.

Transformers....robots in disguise. :p

All in all it was good. The robots voices were a little cheesy -- but I could take that. Lots of action and I am a fan of Shia LeBouf. He did a great job and I look forward to seeing him in other movies.

TRANSFORMERS
Theater/ Color/ 150 Mins./ PG-13/ 2007
A popcorn movie that if you do not scrutinize it too closely you could have a good time with it.
The live action situation was entertaining and the actors proved to pull though on their parts but the robots and their voices seem to make the story a bit unbelievable even though the computer graphics were gorgeous. Robot fights were well realized but quick bad editing caused the action to become unclear. I am not a big fan of slow motion but possibly a few more scenes could have used the impact and emphasis.
